The customer reviews for Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant offer a candid glimpse into the dining experience. One reviewer commented on the restaurant's unique and somewhat dated decor, describing it as seemingly a former Irish pub with "poker hanging Tiffany lights." They also noted the "oddly located" bathroom outside the restaurant premises. Despite these observations regarding the ambiance, the reviewer was highly positive about other aspects of their visit. They specifically commended the waitress, who was apparently the only one working during dinner service, for being "friendly and efficient" despite being overwhelmed by the number of tables requiring her attention. The reviewer also noted the arrival of many regular customers, suggesting a loyal local following. Their own experience was positive, with food arriving quickly (as they were the first to arrive) and tasting "great." They highlighted the "generous" portion sizes and particularly enjoyed the "sizzling beef plate." The reviewer also found the prices to be "reasonable given the quality and portion" and expressed their intention to return.

Another customer kept their review simple yet enthusiastic, focusing on a specific dish: the chicken fried rice. They described it as "Soooooo delicious 😋" and mentioned ordering it three more times within the past few weeks, indicating a high level of satisfaction. This reviewer also stated their intention to return to try other dishes, noting that "everything looks so good." This positive feedback further supports the notion that the food at Shanghai Yau Fat is a significant draw for customers.

Based on these reviews, the environment of Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant is described as having a unique and somewhat dated decor, possibly hinting at a history or a previous establishment occupying the space. The mention of Tiffany lights and a former Irish pub aesthetic suggests a departure from typical Chinese restaurant decor, which might be considered quirky or unusual by some. The location of the bathroom outside the restaurant is also a notable, albeit perhaps inconvenient, aspect of the physical space.

The services at Shanghai Yau Fat appear to be characterized by friendly and efficient staff, as highlighted by the reviewer who praised the sole waitress working during dinner. The quick service experienced by the early-arriving customers suggests an efficient kitchen operation as well. The presence of regular customers indicates that the restaurant likely offers consistent quality and service that fosters loyalty. While takeout is not explicitly mentioned, it is a common offering for Chinese restaurants, and the contact numbers provided could be used to inquire about this service. Dine-in service is clearly available, as both reviewers dined at the restaurant.

In terms of features, the delicious food is a standout aspect, with specific mentions of the "sizzling beef plate" and the "chicken fried rice" being particularly well-received. The generous portion sizes offer good value for money, as noted by one reviewer. The friendly and efficient service, especially the commendable efforts of the waitress during a busy dinner service, contributes positively to the overall dining experience. The presence of a strong regular customer base suggests consistency and quality over time.

There is no promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. Customers are sharing their unbiased experiences with the food, service, and ambiance. However, the positive word-of-mouth evident in these reviews, particularly the repeated orders of the chicken fried rice and the intention to return to try more dishes, serves as a form of organic promotion.

For local users in Alhambra considering Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant, it is important to be aware of the unique and somewhat dated decor, which might not align with everyone's aesthetic preferences. The potentially inconvenient location of the bathroom outside the restaurant is also a factor to consider. However, the consistently praised delicious food, particularly the sizzling beef and chicken fried rice, along with the generous portions and reasonable prices, make it a compelling option for those prioritizing the quality and value of their meal. The friendly and efficient service, even when the restaurant is busy, further enhances the dining experience. The strong base of regular customers suggests a reliable and well-regarded establishment within the local community.

In conclusion, Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant in Alhambra offers a Chinese dining experience characterized by its tasty food, substantial portions, and welcoming service. While the decor might be unconventional and the bathroom location unusual, the positive feedback regarding the food quality and the dedication of the staff, particularly the praised waitress, indicate a restaurant that prioritizes the satisfaction of its customers. Local residents looking for a flavorful and generously portioned Chinese meal at a reasonable price should consider giving Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant a try, keeping in mind the unique ambiance.

The restaurant looks dated and has odd decor. It looked like it used to be an Irish pub with the poker hanging Tiffany lights and taken over by the current Chinese restaurant. The bathroom is oddly located outside the restaurant. Decor aside, the waitress there (the only waitress working dinner, kudos to her!) was friendly and efficient. She was overwhelmed by the number of table demanding her attention. Lots of regular customers arrived after we got there. We were the first to arrive and food arrived quickly. Everything tasted great. Portions were generous. Sizzling beef plate was my favorite. The price was reasonable given the quality and portion. We will return!

We had a large party and they were able to accommodate us. The food was delicious! The best salt and pepper pork chops and string beans I've had. The steamed flounder was also very good, and so was the whole catfish with garlic sauce. We got 12 or 13 dishes, and these were definitely the faves of the group. It's an older building, but we went for the food, so it didn't bother us. 100% recommend!

Best damn food of my life. Beef was perfect. Green beans like I’ve never tasted. Noodles were fantastic. I would come to Pasadena just for the food, they have great food everywhere.

This restaurant had a lot of bad review on their customer service that's why we never went there. So, a couple of days ago my family decided to try it out for a benefit of doubts. Surprisingly, the service was fast and the staff was helpful and quite nice. She was very busy because she was working herself, so it's totally understandable if she looked like in a hurry. The restaurant was not so big but it's pretty nice though. It was not busy during our visit at weekday, but there were a lot of online orders coming to pick up food. Amazingly, their food tastes as great as our other favorite restaurant on Valley Blvd. Their pork belly tastes and smells great and their fried chicken is also tasty. Will come back soon.
