About Shanghai Taste

Located at 3075 Ridgeway Dr unit 30 in Mississauga, Ontario, Shanghai Taste offers a unique culinary experience specializing in authentic Shanghainese cuisine. For local users seeking flavors from eastern China, this restaurant presents a noteworthy option.

One customer who stumbled upon Shanghai Taste after shopping nearby noted the extensive menu, acknowledging that some items like dim sum and buns might be frozen. However, they found the overall dishes to be good and tasting "pretty homey." The restaurant is described as a "mom & pop spot," suggesting a casual and unpretentious environment with basic service. According to this review, the front of house is primarily managed by one lady who handles multiple tasks, with one person in the kitchen.

Another reviewer enthusiastically proclaims Shanghai Taste as the best authentic Shanghainese cuisine in Mississauga, if not the entire GTA. They specifically highlight the large size of the 糍饭糕 (cifang gao - sticky rice cake), the tasty 酱鸭 (jiang ya - soy sauce duck), the traditionally prepared 咸豆浆 (xian doujiang - savory soy milk), and the delicious soup of 腌咄鲜 (yan du xian - salted pork and bamboo shoot soup). A significant feature mentioned is the restaurant's policy of not asking for tips, with no tipping option available on any payment methods. This reviewer highly recommends Shanghai Taste for those wanting to try traditional eastern Chinese cuisine.

In summary, Shanghai Taste offers a taste of authentic Shanghainese home-style cooking in a casual, family-run setting. While the menu is large and some items may be frozen, the overall quality of the dishes, particularly traditional specialties, appears to be well-regarded. The no-tipping policy is a notable feature. For those seeking genuine Shanghainese flavors in Mississauga, Shanghai Taste comes highly recommended by at least one enthusiastic patron.

Stumbled upon this after shopping at Costco. Decided to gove it a try cuz theres no other Shanghainese spot in the area. Menu was HUGE. A bit overwhelming, some items u know is gna be frozen like dimsums and buns. But the dishes were overall good. Taste pretty homey. Now its like a mom & pop spot. So dont expect anything fancy. Basic service. Lady is the front of house literally does it all and one guy back in the kitchen.

Honestly this is the best authentic Shanghai cuisine in Mississauga, if not in whole GTA. The size of 糍饭糕is huge. 酱鸭is tasty, 咸豆浆is cooked in a traditional way. The soup of 腌咄鲜is delicious. The best of the restaurant is they don’t ask for a tip and there is no option of tip in any of payment methods. Highly recommended for who wants to try traditional eastern Chinese cuisine.

My wife dropped in to pick up some take out dinner. The lady owner was nice to tell my wife to call her directly instead of ordering online. That is a nice 👍 personal touch especially for a first timer here. I personally loved the stir fried rice cake with classic Shanghai flavours. And there was a sunny side egg 🥚 served with it which is odd because this is a first for me with this dish. The dumplings and wontons are all home made and they all had their own distinctive textures and seasonings. Good 👍 stuff. When I saw 👀 the sheer amount of items that are available, I was a bit shocked 😳. But hey, as long as the food is good … who am I to judge right? This is a local mom and pop business run by hard working blue collar folks who deserve our support. Happy eats everyone 😎

It's so nice to finally have something that's even close to good Shanghainese soup dumplings within all of Mississauga/Etobicoke/Oakville (would have to drive out to Markham to find better and pricier). It's not the best that I've had but with the prices they charge, i don't think we could ask for more. Having said that, it's pretty good!! We'd definitely come back! Especially considering there is no alternative as other spots don't have soup inside their soup dumpling where it costs significantly more Everything is made there so will take time (I'd much prefer this than getting something premade which would taste awful). We had the crab soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, and the pan fried soup dumplings. Their menu is extensively Shanghainese. Will definitely come back for the other items on the menu as well. Bonus tip: unlike for delivery (tip the driver), they don't accept tip when dining in (i tried to give them tip but they refused). Soup dumplings are meant to be had right out of the steamer so this is a no brainer to come in and enjoy it there. Second time we went we got kaufu (gluten with sweet soy sauce with peanuts and mushroom - if you have celiac disease, avoid this dish but it's a refreshing appetizer for those who don't have the allergy - recommend it cold), rice cake with pork and cabbage, Shanghai alley wonton soup, shanghai style fried potstickers, sticky rice shumai, dumplings with peanut sauce over it (recommend it cold), and lions head meatballs (just a name to describe giant meatballs) as pictured. Third time we visited, we got stuff i didn't know was Shanghainese but my Shanghainese friend in NY recommended me to try: soup with bamboo shoot and pork belly, braised pork belly with bok choy, shanghai style spring roll with pork cabbage and mushroom, and got the kaufu as appetizer once more. Loved it all!!

TLDR: Raw meat, raw shrimp, improper handling of cooked vs raw food, shared water bottles from different tables, over 30-40 minute wait time for food to arrive from ordering Went here twice on the recommendation of a family friend (who is from Shanghai, we are from Shanghai as well). Thought we would have some good, nostalgic Shanghai food. We were horribly wrong. The first visit: The dishes are bland and flavourless. The crab Shen Jian Bao had no umami or meaty flavour, only the vague smell of fishy smell. We had three different fried small dim sum dishes that tasted the same; doughy and greasy with very little flavour. The only good thing was the crystal shrimp dumplings which were made from actual whole pieces of shrimp (but even that was ruined on our second visit). We ordered beef packets and the first time they brought it to the table, the inside was still cold and raw. Even after that, we decided to give them another chance and went back a second time. Big mistake. The second time was even worse than the first! We ordered crystal shrimp dumplings and Shanghai nian gao. Waited 35 minutes and during that time, a group of grandmas reached over our table to take our hot water bottles! Eventually the owner came to refill the water bottles but there was flour all over the hot water bottles, indicating lack of hand washing between raw and cooked food (and possibly food being brought out for consumers!). They didn't have enough hot water bottles for all the tables so there were a lot of strangers hands touching all over the hot water bottles (very unsanitary). Waited over 35 minutes to get the dumplings and the first bite was just a raw, grey shrimp dangling from my mouth. Dad's dumpling was raw as well. This is the second time we were served raw meat/seafood at this place. Would not recommend.
