About Shanghai Soup Dumplings 上海小籠包

Shanghai Soup Dumplings 上海小籠包 is a Chinese restaurant situated inside the Kam Man Food market at 219 Quincy Avenue #85 (near the registers), Quincy, MA. They can be contacted at (617) 319-9367 or +1 617-319-9367.

According to recent customer reviews, Shanghai Soup Dumplings operates in a food court-style setting within the Kam Man market. One customer who tried the scallion pancakes, chive wrap, and radish pancakes found the scallion pancakes to be excessively oily and the chive wraps and radish pancakes to lack significant flavor, considering them "nothing special." This customer also noted that these items appeared to be freshly made but came out of the freezer and found the total cost of $23 for these three items to be quite pricey, also mentioning a small, half-filled dipping sauce.

In contrast, another customer who visited after the new shop owners took over (approximately three months ago) had a more positive experience. This reviewer was pleasantly surprised by the quality, noting that the Shanghai original soup dumplings tasted very similar to those experienced in Beijing. They also enjoyed the veggie dumplings, which featured a spinach dough with good flavor, and found the scallion pancake to be very crispy and tasty. This customer appreciated the convenience of being able to get a good meal while shopping at the Kam Man market.

It appears that Shanghai Soup Dumplings 上海小籠包 offers a variety of Northern-style Chinese snacks, with the soup dumplings being a highlight for some customers. However, experiences with other items like the scallion pancakes, chive wraps, and radish pancakes seem to vary. The restaurant's location within a grocery market provides a casual, food court-like environment. As the business has recent new ownership, it might be worthwhile for local users to try their soup dumplings based on the positive feedback, while being aware of the mixed reviews regarding other menu items.

The place is located inside the same building as Kai Man grocery store. We ordered scallion pancakes 4 pieces, Chive wrap 2 pieces, and Radish pancakes 3 pieces. These are freshly made. It came out of the freezer. The Scallion was really oily! I wished they would use something to take some of the oil. The chive wraps and radish pancakes aren't anything special. It lacks flavor. It came out to 23 bucks. Pretty pricey. They gave us a tiny dipping sauce that was half full. We didn't have the soup dumplings.

New shop owners say has been open about 3 months. It’s tucked away near the registers in the Kan Man market. I was skeptical being a food Court style place, but was pleasantly surprised. They tasted Very similar to the ones that I just had a week ago in Beijing. The veggie dumplings were a spinach dough with nice flavor. The Shanghai Original dumplings were delicious. The scallion pancake was an add-on, but it was very crispy and tasty. It’s good to know. I can grab a good bite to eat while I’m shopping.

This place is closer to a 3.5 for me because I was really disappointed by one of the things that I ordered, but I honestly feel bad rating low for a mom-and-pop type of shop. Also, the fact that the dumplings were homemade on the spot is deserving of half a star to bump this up to a 4. This place is located near the registers when you walk into Kam Man. It is a simple shop with a cute logo, four tables, and two workers. I ordered the signature soup dumplings and Shanghai sticky rice with braised pork, which took 10 minutes to prepare (I was the only person, so you might have to wait longer if there are other customers). - Signature Soup Dumplings ($11.95/6 pcs): The dumplings were on the smaller side and did not have a ton of soup, but they definitely tasted homemade. The dough was soft, chewy, and the right thickness. The soup was flavorful. I wanted something more from the filling, but it was cooked well (not dry). These came with a dipping sauce that tasted mostly of vinegar with a dash of soy sauce; I liked it, but those who cannot handle that strong of a vinegar taste would not. However, the dumplings also tasted fine on their own. - Shanghai Sticky Rice with Braised Pork ($11.95/2 pcs): I was so disappointed by this dish. Each sticky rice only had two tiny pieces of braised pork, which were mostly fat, so I pretty much paid this much for rice (+ the effort of wrapping the rice in lotus leaves). There was too little pork to comment on the flavor, but at least the rice was indeed sticky and not overly salty despite the color. I was debating between this or the scallion pancake and now regret that I did not go with the latter. Prices are a bit steep for the portion size, and there is a $20 minimum for credit cards. No issues with service. If you come here, skip the sticky rice but get the soup dumplings--they are the signature for a reason.

This spot inside Kam Man Foods in Quincy is fantastic. The soup dumplings are outrageously good and the pan fried dumplings were the best I ever had in a long time - so juicy inside and they were not greasy at all. The wonton soup was great but not as great as the other two things I had. The service was very friendly. Only 4 tables but the service was quick and I was able to sit right away. I was really happy leaving this place

Authentic Chinese dumplings, buns (包子), wonton (馄饨), soup dumplings (汤包), ... You may have personal taste and preference, but it is hard to argue that freshly made food makes the greatest taste. Compared with a lot of restaurants that serve a wide variety of food on the menu, you cannot go wrong with a small store who is focusing on their specialty, and do it the best.
