About Shanghai Shikumen Fine Cuisine

Shanghai Shikumen Fine Cuisine is a Chinese restaurant located at 3225 Hwy 7 Unit 1-A, Markham, ON L3R 3P9, Canada. Specializing in Shanghai cuisine, this establishment offers a variety of traditional dishes and dim sum, with a touch of fusion incorporating other flavorful Chinese culinary styles.

Based on customer reviews, Shanghai Shikumen Fine Cuisine provides a surprisingly good dining experience, despite some noting that the interior has a slightly dated aesthetic which contributes to an authentic "old Shanghai" ambiance. The service is reported to be efficient and simple, with staff, including the waitress/store manager, capable of speaking the Shanghai dialect, which is appreciated by some patrons.

The restaurant's menu features several highly recommended dishes. The Egg Braised Meatball ($21.99) is praised for its tenderness and balanced flavor, with delicious vegetables inside. Although some diners noted the inclusion of egg within the meatball is not traditionally found in Shanghai, it was still well-received. The Stir Fried Pork Liver ($18.99) is highlighted as a must-try, lauded for its tenderness and flavorful sauce. Another notable dish is the Tomato and Shrimp Crispy Rice Crust ($21.99), offering a pleasant combination of sweet and sour tastes with contrasting crispy and soft textures.

For those seeking classic Shanghai street food, the House Special Pan Fried Bun ($9.99) is consistently rated as good. The Steamed Pork Bun ($9.99) is also a popular choice and a recurring order for many customers.

Overall, Shanghai Shikumen Fine Cuisine is described as a decent Shanghai food restaurant offering yummy and well-presented dishes at reasonable prices. Customers have also noted the friendly service and spacious seating area, making it a worthwhile option for those looking to experience authentic Shanghai flavors in Markham.

This is one of very few Shanghai dishes restaurants in Toronto. Disregard some of the reviews on the internet, we found it to be surprisingly good. The interior is a little bit out of dated, but it gives a feel of old Shanghai which we like. The service is better than we anticipated, efficient and simple, the waitress/ store manager can speak Shanghai dialect, which is a plus. The food we tried is the Egg Braised meatball $21.99 very tender and not too salty, the veggies inside is so yummy, although we never tasted egg inside meatball in Shanghai, we liked it. Stir Fried Pork Liver $18.99 is so good, it is so tender and the source is tasty, must try. Tomato and shrimp crispy rice crust $21.99, it is nice combination of sweet and sour, crispy and soft texture. House special pan fried bun $9.99 is what we aim for, consistently good. Steamed pork bun $9.99 is also very yummy, must order item every time. Overall, it is a very decent Shanghai food restaurant which is worth trying.

Food tasted sweet, not my cup of tea. However, the meats and ingredients they use are good quality.

I wish I loved this restaurant more since my family has been looking for a Shanghainese restaurant in the GTA for a while now. Unfortunately, I think there were more misses than hits here - accentuated by their higher price point. We ordered the Shanghai Style Five-Spice Fried Fish ($16.99), Egg in Braised Meatball ($21.99), House Special Braised Pork ($24.99) and Gluten with Mushroom in Casserole ($17.99). None of this is considered cheap - especially that braised pork, which only ended up being a small portion! That was the biggest disappointment, as the pork was not hot and there was no sauce at all. It ended up being quite dry in the mouth, while the flavour was okay. The casserole was good, as well as the meatballs. It was a bit weird to see the classic Lion's Head Meatballs made this way, with an egg in the middle. The portion was very good though and the taste was decent. The spiced fish wasn't my favorite - while the flavour was right, the texture was odd. I usually like my spiced fish a bit more dried out and with the bones easier to pick out or even crispy enough to just eat. Overall, I may be back to try some of the other dishes. It was quite busy when we went (Saturday night) which is great for the business. I think we could find some dishes we do like, just would not re-order the majority of what we ordered today. It ended up being $98 including tax.

If you miss Shanghai food, this is the place. Packed with strong savouring flavours and quick service. Heard their Sui lo Boa makers went to the Dan Tai Fung. Their Sui lo Boa is even better if you ask me. You can purchase $20 forever discount card for dine in and take out 10% Off. I got one
