Welcome to Shanghai, a Chinese restaurant located at 7431 W Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach, Florida. Based on the limited information available from customer reviews, the environment of Shanghai Chinese Restaurant appears to be a point of concern for at least one patron. This customer, who went to pick up a phone order approximately 25 minutes after placing it, noted a noticeable smell of cigarettes upon entering the premises and expressed a lack of initial positive impression of the place. However, they decided to try the food due to its proximity to their home. Further details about the restaurant's interior decor, cleanliness, or overall ambiance are not provided in the available feedback.
The services offered by Shanghai seem to include phone ordering for takeout. The negative review details the process of ordering over the phone and picking up the food. It is unclear from the provided information whether Shanghai also offers dine-in services. The positive review does not specify whether the meal was consumed on-site or taken away. Information regarding delivery services is also not available in the current feedback.
The customer reviews offer contrasting opinions on the quality of the food at Shanghai. One reviewer had a significantly negative experience with several dishes. They mentioned that the Wonton Soup, often considered a benchmark for a good Chinese restaurant, was inedible. The Beef and Broccoli also received criticism, with half of the meat described as inedible and the broccoli having a bad taste that even affected the flavor of the rice. The reviewer also noted that the noodles in one of the dishes (potentially the Wonton Soup, based on the description of swollen and pasty noodles in accompanying pictures) were overcooked and the meats were slimy. This overwhelmingly negative feedback raises serious concerns about the food quality and preparation at Shanghai, at least during this particular customer's experience.
In contrast, another customer reported a positive experience with specific dishes. They found the Eggplant with mild garlic sauce to be "very tasty" and immensely enjoyed the Egg Drop Soup. The Chicken on chicken sticks was described as "a little stringy but good taste, sauce and moist pieces." This review indicates that some dishes at Shanghai might be flavorful and well-received. The stark difference in these two reviews suggests a potential inconsistency in the quality of food or a difference in individual preferences and expectations.
One interesting piece of information from the negative review is the observation that Shanghai does not accept American Express. This might be relevant for customers who prefer to pay with this card. No other information regarding payment options or pricing is available in the provided feedback.
Promotional information for Shanghai is not mentioned in the customer reviews. Local Chinese restaurants sometimes offer lunch specials, discounts for certain order amounts, or other promotions to attract customers. To learn about any potential special offers at Shanghai, it would be advisable to contact them directly at (561) 498-3688 or +1 561-498-3688.
In summary, Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Delray Beach, FL, offers takeout services and potentially dine-in options. Customer feedback on the restaurant is mixed. One customer reported a very negative experience with multiple dishes, citing issues with taste, texture, and overall edibility, as well as a concerning environment upon pickup. On the other hand, another customer enjoyed specific dishes like the Eggplant with garlic sauce and Egg Drop Soup, finding them tasty. The Chicken on chicken sticks received a mixed review, noting stringiness but good flavor. The restaurant does not accept American Express. Local users considering Shanghai should be aware of these contrasting experiences and might want to inquire about the freshness and preparation of specific dishes when ordering. For more information on their menu, services, and any potential promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

Ordered over the phone, showed up 25 mins later walked in smelled like cigarettes and wasn’t impressed with the place but figured I’d give it a try since it’s less than 5 mins from the house. Got back to the house, Wonton soup is usually my signal for identifying a good Chinese spot. I couldn’t eat it. Beef and broccoli half of the meat was inedible and the broccoli tastes real bad it even makes the rice taste bad. Now I know why they don’t take Amex I’d definitely toss this in the trash and dispute it. I’ve attached a couple pics if you zoom in and take a look you can see the noodles are swollen and pasty the meats are very slimy. I feel bad critiquing it so badly but I ordered this for my wife and daughter to come home to and now I have to throw it out and go to another place.
First time. Eggplant with mild garlic sauce very tasty. Enjoyed my Egg Drop Soup immensely. Chicken on chicken sticks was a little stringy but good taste, sauce and moist pieces.
For a take out restaurant, the food is good. If you want Chinese take out and you can't travel too far. Then this will definitely satisfy you. I ordered spare ribs and shrimp 🦐 fried rice 🍚
Just an ordinary Chinese restaurant with only take out now. One of the only restaurants opened after 9 on a Saturday night. My wife just wanted wonton soup. I got a combo dinner, Garlic Sauce Jumbo Shrimp with mushrooms, red & green pepper, onion, pea pods, and celery. Came with soup, egg roll , and fried rice. Just ok, needed more seasoning, lacked flavor.
The food is plentiful and good. The place is strictly for takeout as there is no AC so you wouldn’t want to eat in there. Great lunch and dinner menus at reasonable prices.
