About Shanghai

Shanghai is a Chinese restaurant located at 1360 Old Hwy 135 in Corydon, Indiana, serving the local community with a variety of Chinese dishes. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Shanghai aims to provide a taste of Chinese cuisine to residents and visitors in the Corydon area. However, recent customer reviews available online present a concerning picture regarding the quality and preparation of their food.

One customer shared a negative experience with their order of Kung Pao Chicken. According to their review, the dish contained a minimal amount of chicken and was instead dominated by "a bed of huge chunks of pepper and onions and other random vegetables." This suggests a significant imbalance in the ingredients, with a lack of the primary protein and an overabundance of vegetables, which may not align with the customer's expectations for this classic dish. This feedback raises questions about the consistency and quality control in Shanghai's kitchen.

Another customer expressed overall disappointment with their recent order, particularly in comparison to their past experiences at Shanghai. They stated, "Years ago this place was great," indicating a perceived decline in the restaurant's quality over time. This long-term perspective can be valuable for potential customers who might have heard positive things about Shanghai from years prior but are considering a visit based on current standards.

This dissatisfied customer ordered several items, including Shrimp Lo Mein, Sesame Chicken, and Crab Ragoons, and provided specific criticisms for each. Regarding the Sesame Chicken, they asked, "Can you see how dried out and hard the chicken is by picture?" This suggests a significant issue with the texture and possibly the freshness or cooking method of the chicken in this dish. Dried-out and hard chicken can be unappetizing and indicative of overcooking or reheating.

The Crab Ragoons also did not meet this customer's expectations. While they noted that they "weren't horrible," they also mentioned that "something was off about them like too much onion powder or something." This indicates an imbalance in flavor that detracted from the enjoyment of this popular appetizer. An excessive amount of a single seasoning can overpower the other delicate flavors typically found in Crab Ragoons.

Furthermore, the customer commented on the Shrimp Lo Mein, noting that it had "thicker noodles than used too and only veggies was cabbage in it." This suggests a change in the recipe or preparation of this dish, with a less desirable noodle texture and a lack of variety in the vegetables. Traditional Lo Mein often includes a mix of vegetables like carrots, scallions, and bok choy, so the sole presence of cabbage might be considered a reduction in quality or a deviation from the expected ingredients.

Based on these negative experiences, the reviewer concluded that Shanghai is "a place is a place I am going to try to avoid." They explicitly stated their intention to seek Chinese food options elsewhere, even if it means going to a different town, saying, "I'll pick up on my way home from a doctor's appointment Uptown or something but not here in corydon." This strong statement underscores the level of dissatisfaction with their recent meal from Shanghai and their lack of confidence in the restaurant's current offerings.

The provided reviews offer no information about the environment or ambiance of Shanghai. As such, it is impossible to describe the decor, cleanliness, or overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Similarly, the reviews do not provide details about the services offered, such as dine-in options, takeout, or delivery. We can infer that takeout is available since the customers were able to order and receive their food, but the extent of their services beyond that is unknown.

Finally, there is no mention of any promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs. Potential customers would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any such promotions that might be available.

In summary, recent customer reviews for Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Corydon, IN, paint a concerning picture. Feedback includes issues with disproportionate ingredients in the Kung Pao Chicken, dried-out and hard Sesame Chicken, Crab Ragoons with an off-flavor, and Shrimp Lo Mein with thicker noodles and a lack of vegetable variety. One long-time customer expressed disappointment in a perceived decline in quality over the years and indicated their intention to avoid the restaurant in the future. For local users in Corydon considering Shanghai, it would be prudent to take these recent negative reviews into account. The feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation and quality that could lead to a disappointing dining experience. Without more positive or contrasting recent reviews, it is difficult to recommend Shanghai based solely on this available information. Potential customers might want to seek more up-to-date feedback or consider other Chinese food options in the surrounding areas.

Not impressed. Years ago this place was great. I ordered shrimp le mein, sesame chicken, and crab ragoons. Can you see how dried out and hard the chicken is by picture? The crab ragoons weren't horrible but something was off about them like too much onion powder or something. Le mein thicker noodles than used too and only veggies was cabbage in it. I've had a lot of Chinese over the years this just is a place is a place I am going to try to avoid. I'll pick up on my way home from a doctor's appointment Uptown or something but not here in corydon.

It's mostly a takeout place now. Best crab Rangoon around if you like it savory and not sweetened like I definitely do.

Absolute garbage, beyond words. I've never received rotten food before the crabmeat rangoons tasted like sour milk. No excuse for the quality period. I will never eat here again! And I will advise anyone that wants to not to!! The shrimp was hard as rocks!
