About Shanghai House Restaurant

Welcome to Shanghai House Restaurant, a cherished Chinese restaurant located at 3641 Balboa St in the heart of San Francisco, California. As a valued member of the local Chinese Restaurant category, Shanghai House Restaurant prides itself on offering authentic Chinese food, with a particular emphasis on homemade specialties. For those residing in or visiting the 94121 area, Shanghai House Restaurant provides a taste of traditional flavors, highlighted by their renowned homemade dumplings and other meticulously prepared dishes. Based on glowing feedback from our customers, Shanghai House Restaurant has established itself as a "Great place for homemade dumplings." This is a central feature of our culinary offerings, suggesting that our dumplings are a must-try item, prepared with care and using traditional recipes. Beyond dumplings, our "fried chicken" is also described as "top notch," indicating a high level of quality and flavor that rivals our signature dumplings. For those seeking truly authentic Chinese flavors, Shanghai House Restaurant aims to deliver a genuine taste experience.

One of the key aspects contributing to the authenticity and quality of our food is the dedication of the owner. Customers have noted that "The lady owner is very friendly and hard working." This personal touch often translates to a greater commitment to the food and the overall dining experience. Furthermore, it has been highlighted that "All the baos and wontons are homemade handmade." This emphasis on handcrafting these delicate items underscores a commitment to traditional methods and fresh ingredients, setting Shanghai House Restaurant apart for those who appreciate the art of homemade Chinese cuisine.

For those seeking "authentic Chinese food, with a affordable price," Shanghai House Restaurant is highly recommended. This suggests that we offer a valuable combination of quality and affordability, making traditional Chinese flavors accessible to a wide range of customers. The positive feedback regarding both the authenticity and the reasonable prices makes Shanghai House Restaurant an attractive option for those looking for a genuine culinary experience without breaking the bank.

Another standout feature mentioned by our patrons is the size and quality of our fried chicken wings. One enthusiastic reviewer noted that our "Chicken wings are quite big than all the other places I been to, even some famous lined up restaurant is no better than here." This comparison to well-regarded establishments speaks volumes about the exceptional quality and generous size of our chicken wings, making them another highly recommended item on our menu.

The enthusiastic customer concluded their review by stating, "Just look at the pictures, this is a MUST TRY PLACE!" This strong endorsement, coupled with the specific mentions of homemade dumplings, top-notch fried chicken, handmade baos and wontons, affordable prices, and generously sized chicken wings, paints a picture of a restaurant that is passionate about its food and dedicated to providing a satisfying culinary experience.

However, one reviewer did mention that "Service takes a while," but followed up by saying it is "worth the wait." This suggests that while the food is highly regarded and likely prepared with care, customers should be prepared for a potentially slower pace of service, especially during busy periods. The fact that the customer still felt the wait was worthwhile speaks to the exceptional quality of the food that ultimately compensates for the slower service.

Based on the provided reviews, the environment of Shanghai House Restaurant is not explicitly described in terms of decor or ambiance. The focus of the feedback is primarily on the quality and authenticity of the food, as well as the friendly and hardworking nature of the owner. However, the positive sentiment and the recommendation to try the place suggest a welcoming atmosphere where the food takes center stage. The fact that customers are willing to wait for the food also implies a comfortable enough setting to do so.

The services offered seem to include both dine-in and potentially takeout, although this is not explicitly stated. The mention of service taking a while implies a full-service dining experience. The friendly demeanor of the owner suggests a personal touch in customer interactions. However, specific details about reservation policies, delivery options, or other services are not provided in the reviews.

I usually order their dry fried chicken wing, XLB, and pan fried dumplings. A little disappointed of the wings and XLB this time. The batter of the wings is too hard, and size is smaller not much meat, sauces is still amazing (Tate's like sweet honey with ginger). XLB skin is too saggy this time, seems like it is over cooked and the meat portion is smaller than it used to be. Pan fried dumpling is juicy inside with thin and crispy skin. Recommend! Saw other people order their beef ball clay pot, pork feet, shrimp, smoked duck, and some noodle dishes...Those all looks good. I may try them next time. The restaurant is small with about 10 small tables. Only one server, and seems like only 2-3 people working in the kitchen. We came here on Sunday 5:10pm, the restaurant is already full, and we were lucky to be seated at the last open table. Waited about 30min for the food. They had many to go orders too. Not sure if the air conditioning is broken in the kitchen, the restaurant got very smoky, and my clothes and hair all smells oily after dinner. Cash only!

Stopped by for the ShengJian Bao with my girlfriend. Owner wasn’t the friendliest at first but definitely warms up to you(maybe because i shared that i lived in Shanghai for a while). Overall food was authentic and delicious, has two menus, one more authentic and another cater to American customers. You will definitely find what you are looking for here. Located in a busy street with lots of restaurant options, not the most vibrant and good looking one but you will get your money worth for the food. Thanks!
