About Shanghai Garden
Shanghai Garden is a Chinese restaurant situated at 129 Clinton St in Springfield, Vermont, 05156, USA. Operating within the Chinese Restaurant category, Shanghai Garden serves the local community with a range of Chinese dishes. They can be contacted at (802) 885-5555 or via their mobile number +1 802-885-5555.
Based on customer reviews, Shanghai Garden is described as a "little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant" with "very limited seating inside." This lack of substantial dining space leads reviewers to suggest that it functions primarily as a takeout establishment rather than a traditional dine-in restaurant. Potential customers should be aware that the indoor seating is so limited that it might not be a viable option for those wishing to eat on-site.
Regarding the food quality, the general consensus is that it is "for the most part, really good." However, some inconsistencies have been noted. One reviewer mentioned an instance where the Moo Shi dish they tried was "very salty," and there have been occasions when the Lo Mein felt "very under seasoned." Despite these "minor issues," the overall experience with the food has been positive for some customers, leading them to return. Another reviewer specifically praised the "delicious" Chicken Lo Mein, noting that it paired perfectly with their hot oil and recommending it to others.
However, not all dishes have received positive feedback. One customer expressed disappointment with the Szechuan Chicken, stating that it lacked spiciness and more closely resembled Kung Pao chicken, ultimately leading them not to recommend it due to it not meeting their expectations.
Parking at Shanghai Garden appears to be a potential inconvenience. One reviewer described it as "kind of sketchy," primarily because there are no designated parking spaces. The available parking can be further limited if other drivers "park stupidly," potentially blocking a significant portion of the accessible space. This is a factor that customers driving to pick up takeout orders might need to consider.
Accessibility is also a concern mentioned by one reviewer. They noted that they could not assess the bathroom facilities as they had never used them. More importantly, they observed that it would be impossible to enter the front door with a wheelchair, indicating a potential lack of accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges.
Despite the limitations in seating and the reported issues with parking and accessibility, as well as some inconsistencies in food seasoning and the preparation of specific dishes like the Szechuan Chicken, Shanghai Garden retains some positive attributes that keep customers coming back. The food is described as "still tasty," and the portion sizes are considered "big." Additionally, the prices are noted as "aren't insane," suggesting that the restaurant offers reasonable value for money. These factors – tasty food, generous portions, and fair pricing – are cited as the primary reasons for customer loyalty.
One reviewer explicitly stated that while Shanghai Garden is "definitely more of a takeout spot," it is "totally worth it if you're craving Chinese food," further reinforcing its reputation as a go-to place for takeout in the area.
Information regarding the environment or ambiance inside Shanghai Garden is limited due to the emphasis on it being primarily a takeout establishment with very limited seating. Therefore, a detailed description of the interior decor or atmosphere cannot be provided based on the available reviews.
The services offered by Shanghai Garden primarily include takeout. While there is limited seating that might technically allow for dining in, it is not recommended or considered a significant aspect of their service. There is no mention of delivery services in the provided reviews, so it cannot be confirmed whether they offer this option. Customers likely place orders over the phone for pickup at their convenience.
The features of Shanghai Garden seem to be centered around its tasty food, particularly the Chicken Lo Mein (when prepared well), the generous portion sizes offered, and the reasonable prices. The availability of hot oil as a condiment that pairs well with some dishes is also noted as a positive. However, inconsistency in seasoning (salty Moo Shi, under seasoned Lo Mein) and potential misinterpretation of dishes like the Szechuan Chicken are areas where improvement might be needed.
No promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs, is mentioned in the provided reviews. Therefore, it is not possible to comment on any current promotions that Shanghai Garden might be running to attract or retain customers.
For local users in Springfield, VT, who are looking for a Chinese restaurant primarily for takeout, Shanghai Garden appears to be a popular option. The consensus is that the food is generally tasty, with the Chicken Lo Mein being a recommended dish, especially when paired with their hot oil. The big portions and reasonable prices offer good value. However, potential customers should be aware of the very limited seating, the potential parking issues due to a lack of designated spaces, and the reported accessibility challenges with the front door. Additionally, there have been some inconsistencies reported regarding the seasoning of certain dishes and the preparation of specific items like the Szechuan Chicken.
Given these points, local users seeking a convenient Chinese takeout option in Springfield, VT, might find Shanghai Garden to be a worthwhile choice, especially if they prioritize taste, portion size, and price over a dine-in experience or guaranteed consistency across all menu items. It might be advisable to inquire about specific dishes when ordering to ensure they meet expectations, based on the mixed feedback received.
In conclusion, Shanghai Garden in Springfield, VT, is a Chinese restaurant that functions mainly as a takeout establishment due to its very limited seating. While the food is generally considered tasty with generous portions and reasonable prices, there have been reports of inconsistencies in seasoning and the preparation of certain dishes. Potential customers should also be aware of potential parking issues and accessibility limitations. For those primarily seeking Chinese takeout in the area, Shanghai Garden remains a popular option worth considering.

A little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant that has very limited seating inside, so much so that I wouldn't really consider it dine in, and just take out. The food has been, for the most part, really good. The moo shi I tried once was very salty, and occasionally the lo mein just feels very under seasoned. Aside from those two minor issues, we've always had a good experience here. The parking can get kind of sketchy, mainly because there's no designated parking spaces and if some folks just park stupid, it blocks a lot of the available space. I can't speak for any kind of bathroom here, as I've never used it. But I do know I couldn't get in the front door with my wheelchair if I needed too. All that being said, the food is still tasty, the portions are big, and the prices aren't insane. For those reasons alone, we keep coming back.
This place is definitely more of a takeout spot, but it's totally worth it if you're craving Chinese food. The Chicken Lo Mein was delicious, and paired perfectly with their hot oil. Definitely recommend giving it a try! As for the Szechuan Chicken, it wasn't spicy at all, and honestly, it was more like a Kung Pao chicken than anything else. Not quite what I expected and wouldn’t recommend it.
I have no idea how this place rated this high in stars. Ate there two days in a row because I was there for business and the food was under seasoned, mushy vegetables, burnt chicken almost inedible!
It's a dismal place to sit and eat, but the food was good. Many there for take out.
Mostly a takeout place. You can dine in but very limited seating. Food is good, service is great! Love the hot and sour soup and the extra specials they offer.
