About Shanghai Flavor Shop

Welcome to Shanghai Flavor Shop, a Chinese Restaurant located at 888 Old San Francisco Rd in Sunnyvale, California. As a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area, Shanghai Flavor Shop aims to bring the authentic flavors of Shanghai cuisine to the local community. Situated in Sunnyvale, this establishment offers a variety of dishes, with particular attention drawn to its Shanghai-style offerings. Whether you are seeking a taste of home or are curious to explore the unique culinary traditions of Shanghai, Shanghai Flavor Shop provides a local option for this specific regional Chinese cuisine.

Based on the limited but contrasting customer feedback available, experiences at Shanghai Flavor Shop appear to vary significantly. One reviewer described their experience as negative, citing "horrible service" and "terrible food." This customer expressed dissatisfaction with the price of white rice, mentioning it was $12.95 for a bowl. Additionally, they found the 生煎包 (pan-fried pork buns), a Shanghainese specialty, to be flavorless. This reviewer also noted what they perceived as a lack of attentiveness from the service staff, alleging preferential treatment towards frequent customers and an unwelcoming reaction when requesting a high chair for a young child. The reviewer, who mentioned speaking both Shanghainese and Cantonese, dismissed any potential language or cultural barriers as excuses for their negative experience and stated they would not return.

In stark contrast, another customer described Shanghai Flavor Shop as providing the "most authentic Shanghai daily breakfast experience I have ever got in the Bay Area." This highly positive review suggests that the restaurant may excel in certain aspects of its cuisine, particularly its breakfast offerings, and that it successfully captures the authentic flavors that those familiar with Shanghai breakfast seek. This indicates a potential strength in their breakfast menu and its ability to resonate with individuals looking for a genuine taste of Shanghai in the Bay Area.

Given these divergent opinions, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, services, and features of Shanghai Flavor Shop based solely on these two reviews. The negative review points to potential issues with service quality and the flavor profile of at least one signature dish, as well as concerns about pricing for basic items. On the other hand, the positive review highlights the authenticity of the Shanghai breakfast, suggesting a focus on traditional flavors and perhaps a specific strength during breakfast service.

To gain a more complete understanding of Shanghai Flavor Shop, it would be beneficial to consider the potential implications of these contrasting experiences. The strong positive feedback regarding the authenticity of the breakfast suggests that the restaurant may specialize in or take particular pride in its morning menu, potentially offering a range of traditional Shanghai breakfast items that are well-received by those familiar with the cuisine. The negative feedback, however, raises concerns about the overall quality of other dishes and the consistency of service, indicating that the experience might be uneven depending on the time of day or the specific items ordered.

As a Chinese restaurant focusing on Shanghai flavors, Shanghai Flavor Shop likely offers a menu that includes a variety of dishes typical of this region in China. These might include other Shanghainese specialties beyond 生煎包, such as 小笼包 (soup dumplings), noodles, and various stir-fried dishes that are characteristic of Shanghai cuisine, known for its slightly sweeter and richer flavor profiles compared to some other regional Chinese cuisines.

Regarding the environment of Shanghai Flavor Shop, the provided reviews do not offer any specific details. It is common for Chinese restaurants to have a casual and functional setting, but the ambiance can vary. Without further information, it is difficult to describe the décor or overall atmosphere of the establishment.

In terms of services, it can be inferred that Shanghai Flavor Shop offers dine-in options, as customers have eaten at the restaurant. Promotional information is not available in the provided reviews. It is possible that Shanghai Flavor Shop may have ongoing promotions or special offers, which could be inquired about when contacting the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, Shanghai Flavor Shop in Sunnyvale presents a mixed picture based on the limited customer feedback. While one reviewer found the service and food to be significantly below expectations, particularly noting issues with a signature dish and pricing, another praised the authenticity of the Shanghai breakfast experience. This suggests that the restaurant may have strengths in specific areas, such as its breakfast menu, but might have inconsistencies in other aspects of its offerings or service. Potential customers interested in experiencing authentic Shanghai cuisine, especially for breakfast, may find it worthwhile to try Shanghai Flavor Shop. However, it is advisable to be aware of the reported issues with service and the quality of some dishes. For more detailed information about the menu, services, and any current promotions, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

horrible service, terrible food. $12.95 for a bowl of white rice... 生煎包 is flavorless... I won't be here again. I speak Shanghainese and Cantonese. So no cultural/language excuses. the waitress/owner only cares to say hi to a few frequent customers while her face appeared mad when I told her my 3 year old needs a high chair.

3.5 google reviews typically means wonderful authentic Chinese food with poor service. While this place resembles a third tier city restaurant which one would hope for a hidden gem, the food is underwhelming. It is authentic, just authentic bad Chinese food. You should only visit if you want to hide from your friends and family or to hold a secret office meeting.

The go to here is pan fried pork buns and shredded pork noodle with green onion sauce. I think there is dine in option too but I had it take out. Yummy! The buns are hot and it has a little soup in it. The noodles are well mixed especially with the onion sauce. Delicious. I would come back for more.

I had a to-go order and ordered the Pork Fried Rice and Pan Fried Pork Bun. It was timely with a 15 to 20 minute wait. I highly reccommend the Pan Fried Pork Bun. It had a mixture of soft and crispiness with the surprise soup inside. It stayed warm for a long time. The fried rice was okay. I wouldn't reccommend eating it alone like in other chinese restaurants. Overall, it was fairly tasty at the right price. I would definitely come back.
