About Shanghai Family Restaurant

Welcome to Shanghai Family Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at 10877 N Wolfe Rd in Cupertino, California, specializing in Shanghainese cuisine. As a part of the diverse Chinese restaurant scene in Cupertino, Shanghai Family Restaurant aims to offer a taste of Shanghai's culinary traditions to local diners. This introduction seeks to provide a detailed and objective overview of the restaurant based on the available customer reviews, covering aspects such as the environment, services, features of their food, and any notable points that might help local users decide whether to explore this establishment.

Environment:

One customer who visited Shanghai Family Restaurant for the first time described the decor as "very dated" and noted that the establishment "didn't smell very clean." This feedback raises concerns about the restaurant's ambiance and cleanliness, which can significantly impact the overall dining experience. Potential customers who prioritize a modern and clean environment might find this review off-putting. It suggests that the restaurant may not have undergone recent renovations and might have issues with maintaining a fresh and hygienic atmosphere.

The other reviewer did not comment on the environment, focusing primarily on the food. Therefore, the only available information regarding the environment is the negative feedback about the dated decor and cleanliness. Local users might want to consider this aspect, especially if the ambiance of a restaurant plays a crucial role in their dining choices.

Services:

Based on the fact that customers are dining at the location and receiving service from staff, it can be inferred that Shanghai Family Restaurant offers dine-in services. One reviewer mentioned that the "service was a mix, good and bad, depends on which staff." This indicates inconsistency in the service quality, where some staff members might provide a positive experience while others might not. This variability can be unpredictable for customers. Takeout service is also likely available, as it is a common offering for most Chinese restaurants. However, delivery service is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in takeout or delivery options should contact the restaurant directly to inquire about their availability, ordering procedures, and any associated charges or delivery范围.

The mixed feedback on service suggests that while some interactions might be satisfactory, others could be less so. This lack of consistent service quality is a factor that potential customers should be aware of.

Features:

The customer reviews provide specific feedback on several dishes at Shanghai Family Restaurant, offering insights into their menu and the quality of their preparations. One dish that received high praise was the "pan fried bun," described as "very good" and "one of the better one I've had." The reviewer highlighted the "lots of soup inside" and the "crispy bottom," which are key characteristics of well-made Sheng Jian Bao, a popular Shanghainese street food. This positive review suggests that their pan-fried buns are a standout item and a potential reason to visit the restaurant.

In contrast, the "seaweed fried fish fillet" was a "bit disappointed" for one reviewer, who suspected that "the fish was not very fresh" and found it "bit fishy." This negative feedback indicates potential issues with the quality or freshness of certain seafood dishes, which could be a concern for customers considering ordering them.

The "veggie rice" received mixed feedback. The reviewer loved that it "got crispy crust" but found the flavor "not as good as some," attributing this to a potential lack of flavor from "the salty meat lack flavor." This suggests that while the texture of the veggie rice might be appealing, the overall taste might not meet everyone's expectations, possibly due to the seasoning or the quality of other ingredients included.

Finally, the "pork steamed dumplings" were explicitly described as "not good" by one reviewer. This negative feedback on a classic Chinese dish is also a point of concern for potential customers.

Overall, the features of Shanghai Family Restaurant seem to include a highly recommended pan-fried bun, a potentially problematic seaweed fried fish fillet, a veggie rice with appealing texture but lacking flavor, and subpar pork steamed dumplings. The inconsistency in the quality of these dishes suggests that the dining experience might be variable depending on the specific items ordered.

Promotional Information:

The provided customer reviews do not contain any explicit promotional offers, discounts, or special deals. However, the strong positive feedback on the "pan fried bun" serves as a significant implicit promotion for this particular dish. The enthusiastic description might entice customers to visit Shanghai Family Restaurant specifically to try this Shanghainese specialty.

Conversely, the negative feedback on the seaweed fried fish fillet and pork steamed dumplings could act as a deterrent for customers considering these options. The mixed review of the veggie rice also doesn't strongly promote it.

The fact that one reviewer expressed uncertainty about making this their "to go Shanghainese restaurant" and another indicated they would likely try other spots in the area if they returned suggests a lack of overall strong positive impressions that would guarantee repeat business. This highlights the importance of the positive review for the pan-fried buns as potentially the main draw for new customers.

To learn about any specific promotions, such as lunch specials, family deals, or discounts on certain dishes, local users are encouraged to contact Shanghai Family Restaurant directly at (408) 873-4813 or +1 408-873-4813. They may also have a menu available online or at the restaurant that details any special offers.

Overall Impression:

Shanghai Family Restaurant in Cupertino offers a taste of Shanghainese cuisine, with the pan-fried buns receiving particularly high praise for their soup filling and crispy bottom. However, the reviews also indicate significant concerns regarding the freshness of the seaweed fried fish fillet, the flavor of the veggie rice, and the quality of the pork steamed dumplings. Additionally, one reviewer noted issues with the dated decor and cleanliness of the restaurant, as well as inconsistent service.

For local users in Cupertino looking for Shanghainese food, the positive feedback on the pan-fried buns might be a compelling reason to try Shanghai Family Restaurant. However, it is important to be aware of the mixed to negative reviews of other dishes and the reported issues with the environment and service consistency. Potential customers might want to focus on trying the pan-fried buns and perhaps inquire about the freshness and preparation of other dishes before ordering.

Given the mixed feedback, it might be prudent for those considering Shanghai Family Restaurant to manage their expectations and perhaps prioritize dishes that have received positive mentions. As with any restaurant, individual experiences can vary, but the available reviews provide a somewhat cautious outlook overall, with the exception of the highly recommended pan-fried buns.

I'm not yet convince that this place can be my to go Shanghainese restaurant. Pan fried bun - Very good. One of the better one I've had. Lots of soup inside, crispy bottom. Seaweed fried fish fillet - this one was a bit disappointed. It's possible the fish was not very fresh. Bit fishy. Veggie rice - love it that is got crispy crust, flavor wise is not as good as some. It's probably the salty meat lack flavor. Still need to try other dishes to know more.

First time here. The decor is very dated and didn't smell very clean. The dishes were so so, old style, heavy sauced. The pork steamed dumplings were not good. Service was a mix, good and bad, depends on which staff.

This is a place where you can enjoy anthentic Shanghai cuisine, the food we ordered are all very nice, and the service is also very friendly and helpful. We went there on Sunday evening, it was not crowded and we didnt have to wait which is very good. I would definitely go again. Food was delicious and authentic, service was friendly and quick! Prices typical for Cupertino. We ordered the shenzen bao, rice cakes with shredded pork and bbq spare ribs. Excellent experience!

Northern Chinese food, served quickly. They have a pretty large selection of dishes to choose from. You won't go wrong with buns, dumplings, and any of their vegetable choices. The veggie buns are very flavourful. Try odd dishes like egg whites with meat, very yummy. The interior is a bit dated and very very red. But you are likely not here for the ambiance.
