About Shang Shang Qian
Welcome to Shang Shang Qian, a Chinese restaurant located at 36-34 Union St, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. As a distinctive establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Shang Shang Qian offers a unique dining experience that sets it apart. According to customer reviews, it specializes in authentic, somewhat hard-to-find Chinese cuisine, particularly with a Northern Chinese influence, and boasts a notable selection of seafood and drinks.
One reviewer described Shang Shang Qian as a place to find "authentic special Chinese food" that is "pretty hard to find it anywhere in NYC." This suggests that the restaurant prides itself on offering dishes that are not commonly available in the city, potentially showcasing regional specialties or unique preparations that cater to those seeking a more genuine and less Westernized Chinese culinary experience. This focus on authenticity could be a significant draw for diners looking to explore the diverse flavors of China.
The atmosphere of Shang Shang Qian is also highlighted as being unique, with one customer noting that it is "more like small bistros in France but in Chinese northern style." This intriguing comparison suggests a blend of cozy and intimate European bistro vibes with design elements or a general ambiance that reflects Northern Chinese culture. This could create a distinctive and memorable dining environment, different from typical Chinese restaurants. The description implies a potentially charming and perhaps less formal setting.
A significant feature of Shang Shang Qian, according to a positive review, is its "fantastic" seafood selection. The reviewer specifically mentioned "grilled oysters, Japanese dressing claw-fish salad, king crabs, huge clams." This indicates a diverse and potentially high-quality array of seafood options, with some dishes showing an interesting fusion, such as the claw-fish salad with Japanese dressing. The availability of premium seafood like king crabs and large clams further suggests a focus on fresh and appealing ingredients for seafood lovers.
For those who enjoy alcoholic beverages, Shang Shang Qian is described as "heaven." This implies a well-stocked bar with a variety of drink options. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned that "the owner sometime will serve you some good Chinese Soju and appetizers on house." This is a notable feature, suggesting a personal touch from the owners and the potential for complimentary drinks and snacks, which can greatly enhance the customer experience and create a welcoming atmosphere. The mention of Chinese Soju indicates a specific offering that might appeal to those familiar with or interested in trying Chinese spirits.
The owners are described as "friendly," which aligns with the potential for a welcoming and hospitable environment suggested by the complimentary offerings. Positive interactions with restaurant owners can often contribute to a more enjoyable and personal dining experience, making customers feel valued.
However, it is crucial to present a balanced view, and another customer shared a significantly negative experience. This reviewer described their visit as "awful," citing an "extremely dirty" restroom that appeared to have not been cleaned for an extended period. They also stated that the waiter was unresponsive when this issue was pointed out. Such a serious concern about hygiene can severely impact a customer's perception of the entire restaurant, regardless of the food quality or other positive aspects.
The negative review also commented on the taste of the food as "fair" but raised strong doubts about the restaurant's sanitation license due to the state of the restroom. This highlights a potential inconsistency in the overall experience at Shang Shang Qian, where some customers praise the food and atmosphere while others have significant concerns about cleanliness and service.
Addressing a point made in "the other post," the first reviewer noted that "The waiter is busy there." This suggests that service might be slow or inattentive at times, possibly due to understaffing or high customer volume. However, they also offered a practical tip, suggesting that "if you can remind him a bit, it helps and works great!" This implies that while the service might not always be proactive, the waiter is responsive to reminders and willing to assist when prompted.
Based on the conflicting reviews, the environment of Shang Shang Qian seems to have a unique "cozy" and "Northern Chinese bistro style" ambiance, which is appreciated by some. However, the serious accusation of an "extremely dirty" restroom by another reviewer raises significant concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene of the establishment. This discrepancy in perception could be due to varying experiences or perhaps inconsistencies in the restaurant's maintenance standards.
The services at Shang Shang Qian appear to include dine-in options with potentially friendly owners and a bar serving a variety of drinks, including Chinese Soju. There is also the possibility of complimentary appetizers and drinks served by the owner. However, one review indicates potential issues with waiter service, particularly during busy times, suggesting that attentiveness might vary. There is no information provided about takeout or delivery services.
The features of Shang Shang Qian include its focus on authentic and somewhat rare Northern Chinese cuisine, a notable seafood selection (including grilled oysters, claw-fish salad, king crabs, and clams), and a well-regarded drinks menu. The unique "Northern Chinese bistro style" atmosphere is also a distinguishing feature. The potential for complimentary items from the owner adds a personal touch. However, the reported cleanliness issue with the restroom is a significant negative feature that potential customers should be aware of.
Currently, there is no information available regarding any specific promotional offers, discounts, or special events at Shang Shang Qian. Customers interested in learning about such promotions should contact the restaurant directly using the provided phone numbers: (929) 329-0133 or +1 929-329-0133. Inquiring about any current specials or featured dishes might also be beneficial.
In conclusion, Shang Shang Qian in Flushing, NY, offers a unique dining experience with its focus on authentic Northern Chinese cuisine and a notable seafood menu, all within a "Northern Chinese bistro style" atmosphere. The friendly owners and potential for complimentary drinks and appetizers are positive aspects. However, there is a significant concern raised about the cleanliness of the restroom, and service from the waiter might be slow during busy periods. Potential customers should weigh the positive feedback on the food and atmosphere against the serious hygiene concerns when considering a visit. It might be prudent to inquire about the current conditions and perhaps share any concerns with the restaurant management directly.

For this kind of authentic special Chinese food, it's pretty hard to find it anywhere in NYC. The owners are friendly and the atmosphere there is more like small bistros in France but in Chinese northern style. The seafood is fantastic - grilled oysters, Japanese dressing claw-fish salad, king crabs, huge clams. If you love drinking, here is heaven. The owner sometime will serve you some good Chinese Soju and appetizers on house. I love here and will definitely come here more often. PS. The waiter is busy there as the other post pointed out but if you can remind him a bit, it helps and works great!
Awful experience. I took the subway for 40 minutes to flushing, and I still have no idea why I chose this restaurant that day. Restroom is extremely dirty like nobody cleans it for a year, the waiter does nothing when I point this out. Fair taste but I highly doubt how did they get a sanitation license.
If I can give it 0 stars I would. Freaking waited an hr for 12 dollars worth of take out . What usually takes 5 minutes on a BBQ street stand, toke a freaking hr .i don't understand what they are playing at.
They are good in BBQ & seafood. So that a lots Chinese students would like to visit there. But they don't have parking lots to offer, and the restroom was dirty.
The jjajangmyun was disappointing. It was too watery for my taste... just bland. I've had it better elsewhere. The tangsooyook was good though so I gave it a 3 stars. My bf liked the jjajangmyun though.
