About Shang Hai House Chinese Food

For residents and visitors in Godfrey, Illinois, seeking a Chinese meal, Shang Hai House Chinese Food presents itself as a local option located at 5741 Godfrey Rd, Godfrey, IL 62035, USA. The restaurant can be contacted by phone at (618) 467-0121 or mobile at +1 618-467-0121. As a Chinese Restaurant, Shang Hai House aims to provide a selection of traditional Chinese dishes for both dine-in and takeout service, catering to the local community's demand for Asian cuisine.

The environment of Shang Hai House Chinese Food, while not extensively detailed in customer reviews, is generally described as a casual space. It is a place where customers can either pick up their orders or have a relaxed meal. Information available indicates that the restaurant is situated in a plaza on Godfrey Road, across from Lewis and Clark Community College. It offers accessibility features such as a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, restroom, and seating, which suggests a commitment to accommodating all patrons. The overall impression from general information is that it is a functional and accessible eatery rather than a fine-dining establishment, prioritizing the delivery of Chinese food to its customers.

When it comes to service, customer experiences at Shang Hai House Chinese Food appear to be varied. One customer noted satisfaction with their order and an efficient process, highlighting that their "6-year-old daughter tore into her meal without complaint," suggesting a smooth transaction and acceptable meal for the child. However, another review indicates a significant point of contention regarding a specific order, where the customer felt the dish (garlic shrimp) was predominantly composed of mushrooms rather than shrimp, leading to dissatisfaction and a firm decision of "NO NEXT TIME!!" This contrasting feedback suggests that while some experiences with the service and order fulfillment are positive, there might be inconsistencies in meeting customer expectations, particularly concerning dish composition and responsiveness to complaints.

The features and menu offerings at Shang Hai House Chinese Food encompass a range of Chinese staples. Customers have mentioned ordering dishes such as "special low main," "pork and broccoli meal," "egg roll," and "fried rice." The "special low main" received no complaints, indicating a satisfactory experience with this particular dish. The "pork and broccoli meal" for a child, while noted for having "alot of shredded carrots" and seeming to lack sauce, was nevertheless consumed with enthusiasm by the child. This suggests that even if some dishes deviate from expectations in presentation or composition, they can still be palatable. The "egg roll" and "fried rice" were also mentioned as being well-received by a child, suggesting they are standard, comforting options. However, a significant feature that stands out from customer feedback is the use of "mushrooms" as a primary filler, particularly in the "garlic shrimp" dish. This aspect of the menu, where mushrooms replace a more expected ingredient like shrimp, or are used in a quantity that overshadows other ingredients, is a critical point that potential customers should be aware of, especially if they have specific preferences or dietary restrictions regarding fungi. The restaurant's approach to ingredient composition, as highlighted in one review, suggests a unique interpretation of certain dishes which may not align with all customers' expectations of traditional Chinese cuisine.

Regarding promotional information, the provided data does not explicitly state any current promotions, discounts, or special offers from Shang Hai House Chinese Food. The restaurant’s appeal to local users would primarily stem from its convenience as a Chinese food establishment in Godfrey, IL. The implicit promotion comes from the offering of familiar Chinese dishes such as Lo Mein, egg rolls, and fried rice, which are common comfort foods for many. For local users, the availability of these staples for either quick takeout or a casual dine-in experience forms the core of its practical appeal. The competitive landscape of local dining often relies on repeat business driven by consistent quality and value. While not explicitly stated, any positive experiences related to speed of service or the satisfaction of certain dishes, like the "special low main," would serve as organic promotion through word-of-mouth. Conversely, negative experiences, particularly concerning ingredient substitution or dissatisfaction with resolution attempts, could hinder repeat business. Prospective customers are advised to consider the varied feedback regarding dish composition when making their choices, as this appears to be a notable characteristic of the restaurant's offerings. The absence of specific promotional details suggests that Shang Hai House Chinese Food relies more on its regular menu offerings and day-to-day operations to attract and retain its customer base in the Godfrey area.

Got late lunch/early dinner yesterday. I got the special low main, NO complaints, some have complained about small shrimp but for my dish it worked great! I was confused on my 6 year old daughter’s pork and broccoli meal, it didn’t seem to have sauce and had alot of shredded carrots which I was was not expecting BUT she tore into her meal without complaint lol she wolfed down her egg roll and fried rice and filled up with half the pork and broccoli portion. Next time I know to try order an egg roll or two for myself!

I ordered garlic shrimp and do you notice there's no shrimp. There are a few in here but it is mostly it is all mushrooms. I have never had Chinese food with this many mushrooms in my life. I hate to waste food but this is by far the worst. I called because it was my mistake for not realizing they use mushrooms (not onions) as a filler . The pictures should be enough. The lady on the phone kept saying next time, but there will be NO NEXT TIME!!

The last time I ordered a few months ago, my food was amazing. Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. This time, when I ordered the same thing, I couldn't even eat my general tso's chicken. It didn't look or taste like chicken. Major bummer bc I've been craving that yummy general tso's and don't get to eat Chinese food very often.. 😔 it's especially disappointing since it isn't the cheapest.. over $20 for general tso's combo and small plain fried rice. Nice lady at the counter tho.
