About Sham Tseng BBQ

Welcome to Sham Tseng BBQ, a Chinese restaurant situated in Monterey Park, California, offering a taste of Hong Kong-style cuisine with a focus on barbecue dishes. Located at 634 Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, USA, Sham Tseng BBQ falls under the Chinese Restaurant category and aims to provide local users with a casual yet authentic dining experience reminiscent of Hong Kong's vibrant street cafes.

Based on customer reviews, Sham Tseng BBQ appears to be a popular spot, evidenced by one reviewer's experience of finding the place packed on a Sunday. This suggests that the restaurant has garnered a following within the local community, likely due to its food and perhaps its unique atmosphere. The reviewer, who initially intended to visit a nearby noodle establishment, decided to try Sham Tseng BBQ and was pleasantly surprised by their experience.

The ambiance of Sham Tseng BBQ is described as having a "funky Hong Kong narrow street cafe feel." This evokes an image of a bustling, perhaps slightly cramped, but lively environment, characteristic of many eateries in Hong Kong. The reviewer also noted the presence of numerous food photos displayed throughout the restaurant, a common feature in Hong Kong cafes aimed at showcasing their diverse menu and enticing customers with visual representations of their dishes. This adds to the overall casual and approachable atmosphere.

One of the highlights mentioned in the reviews is a promotional offer for lobster noodles. During one customer's visit, Sham Tseng BBQ was running a special promotion priced at $39.99 for a dish featuring two small lobsters atop noodles. The reviewer found this dish to be "great" and considered it worth the price, even though the lobsters were on the smaller side, estimated at around one pound each, resulting in a limited amount of tail meat. This indicates that Sham Tseng BBQ occasionally offers promotional deals that can provide good value to customers, particularly for seafood dishes.

The reviewer who enjoyed the lobster noodles expressed an intention to return to Sham Tseng BBQ to explore their barbecue offerings, which is a prominent part of the restaurant's name. This suggests that the BBQ, likely including items like roast duck and roast pork, is a significant draw for potential customers.

Another reviewer provided a more detailed description of the restaurant's atmosphere, acknowledging a similarity to typical cafe restaurants, possibly with a noticeable aroma of roast duck and pork emanating from the kitchen or nearby. While admitting that the ambiance might not be particularly refined, they emphasized that the food itself is "great" and that one can often find "pleasant surprises" among the dishes they prepare. This suggests that the focus at Sham Tseng BBQ is primarily on the quality and flavor of the food, which is often considered the most crucial aspect of a dining experience.

This same reviewer also pointed out that for those seeking more "exquisite" or perhaps less common dishes, especially certain seafood items, it would be advisable to order ahead of time by calling the restaurant. This implies that Sham Tseng BBQ is capable of preparing more elaborate meals beyond their regular menu, but these might require advance notice to ensure availability and preparation. This is a valuable piece of information for local users looking for specific or higher-end dishes.

In terms of services, Sham Tseng BBQ appears to offer both dine-in and potentially takeout options, given its nature as a cafe-style restaurant. The packed dining area on a Sunday suggests that it is a popular place for sit-down meals. The recommendation to call ahead for special orders also implies a willingness to accommodate specific customer requests. The presence of both a phone number ((626) 289-4858) and a mobile phone number (+1 626-289-4858) makes it easy for customers to contact the restaurant for inquiries, reservations (if applicable), and pre-orders.

Features of Sham Tseng BBQ seem to revolve around its Hong Kong cafe style, its barbecue specialties (such as roast duck and pork), and its ability to offer seafood dishes, including promotional items like lobster noodles. The casual and bustling atmosphere, the visual menu displays, and the focus on flavorful food are all characteristic features. The potential for discovering "pleasant surprises" in their dishes suggests a degree of culinary creativity or a diverse menu with hidden gems.

While specific details about ongoing promotions are limited to the mention of the $39.99 lobster noodle special, it is possible that Sham Tseng BBQ offers other seasonal or daily specials. Local users are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about any current promotions or special offers that might be available.

In conclusion, Sham Tseng BBQ in Monterey Park offers local users a taste of an authentic Hong Kong cafe experience with a strong emphasis on barbecue dishes. The casual and lively atmosphere, reminiscent of Hong Kong street cafes, might appeal to those seeking a relaxed dining environment. While the ambiance is described as straightforward, the food is consistently praised for its quality and flavor, with the potential for discovering delightful dishes. Keep an eye out for promotional offers like the lobster noodles, and remember to call ahead if you are interested in ordering more exquisite or specific seafood items. If you're in the mood for some tasty BBQ in a Hong Kong cafe setting, Sham Tseng BBQ is worth a visit.

I was going to try the noodles place across the street, they were closed that day so I randomly tried this restaurant. The place was packed on a Sunday. The place has that funky Hong Kong narrow street cafe feel to it. You see all the phots of food posted all over. I was lucky they were having a $39.99 promo for lobster noodles. 2 small lobster on top of noodles. It was great. The lobsters were on small side, maybe a lbs or so each. So hardly any tail meat really, but it was still worth it for the price. Totally come back to check out the bbq next time.

Personally I like this place, but must admit, the atmosphere is like any cafe restaurant you find with a little smell of the roast duck and pork right next door. The food here is great though! (Which is probably more important anyway!) always can find a pleasant surprise with the dishes they can make. If you’re looking for something exquisite will require ordering ahead of time though, especially some seafoods, so call ahead if you’re looking for the more expensive stuff.

This is a casual Chinese restaurant with BBQ to go counter. It offers inexpensive lunch specials with great varieties in different price ranges. When you order 5 dishes, you get 1 free dish. The food is fairly good. Some dishes were excellent & authentic and some were just okay. It's a typical Chinese "BBQ" restaurant for a casual family meal.

We reserved the "private kitchen" which was way over priced for the quality of food served. Definitely was not worth it, will not be going back again.

Best place for Chinese BBQ and Clay pot rice. No decor no vibe and no service. You good there for the food. Take out bbq is always good and pricing for lunch is good. Lunch menu has special items. Try the lobster noodle and clay pot rice. It will be helpful if you read Chinese because some of the special menu were written in Chinese only.
