Sarku Japan

For a quick grab and go meal, this fits the bill. It's cheap, fast, and not that great. The shrimp were tiny and sauced quickly but the rice was definitely marinated well. More places need to let their rice sit for awhile.

I always get the chicken teriyaki with steamed rice which is fabulous at this price point. The chicken is always perfectly cooked, and the sauce just gets me, you know? Sometimes the vegetables come up a little short in the area of broccoli. Steamed rice is sticky goodness. The vegetable springs rolls are fine, but I can do without them. Their iced tea doesn’t do it for me either. Employees are consistently kind. I’ve tried this place all three ways: delivery, take out, and dine in. Food is excellently packaged for to-go orders. The dining area is sufficient but lacks comfort. It’s a dependable joint to hit when chicken teriyaki is your desire.

When my husband and I visit malls, Sarku is our go-to order, and we were thrilled to find a standalone shop. Mall food without the mall crowds? Count me in. The younger gentleman who took our order was polite and efficient, while the older man who handed us our order was kindly and sweet. Without being asked, he offered the de rigeur extra ladle of sauce (sometimes the mall chefs will be a little pinch-faced about these), and even tiny cups of hot sauce. At the end of our meal, he checked on us to make sure everything was okay, which of course it was because Sarku is as dependably delicious as a Starbucks. As a non-meat eater, I was especially appreciative of how healthy the shrimp serving was. If there was any room for improvement, I'd say I missed the broccoli that typically accompanies the side vegetables. Here, it mostly consisted of cabbage, which got a little texturally monotonous after a little while. But that tiny piece of feedback aside, we enjoyed our meal as much as we would at a mall and wish we lived closer so that we could visit as often as the craving for teriyaki over rice hits.

The food is amazing. I love that it’s cooked fresh.

Awesome people and good fast food! The area can feel and look a little cleaner and tidier.
