About Sakura

Sakura, located at 1097 Old Country Rd in Riverhead, NY, offers a Japanese dining experience with a focus on hibachi-style cooking and sushi. You can contact them at (631) 727-8688 or via mobile at +1 631-727-8688.

While the platform category is "Chinese Restaurant," customer reviews indicate that Sakura specializes in Japanese cuisine, particularly hibachi. One large group of 22 people had a positive experience, noting that the food was perfect and everyone enjoyed their selections. The restaurant accommodated the large party in a back area, which suggests they can handle big groups without disturbing other diners. The service included waters upon arrival, personalized order taking regarding meal preparation, and a choice of soup or salad.

A key feature of Sakura is the entertainment provided during the hibachi cooking process, including fried rice with spinning eggs and a fire show. The atmosphere is described as lively with friendly chatter, occasional sake squirts, and airborne vegetables, indicating an interactive dining experience. The meal concluded with generous portions of fried rice and vegetables along with the main course of meat, fish, or vegetables. For this large group, the average cost was $20 per person including the tip, and the servers were noted as very friendly. One person in the group ordered sushi and was able to sit with the others. The high volume of takeout service was also observed by a customer while waiting.

Another reviewer suggested that Sakura is "definitely worth visiting, especially if you’ve never been to hibachi," highlighting the "great show, very fun experience and decent food!" This reinforces the entertaining aspect of dining at Sakura.

However, one reviewer expressed strong dissatisfaction with an 18% gratuity being automatically included in the bill. They argued that salaries should be paid to staff and that guests should have the discretion to decide on the tip amount. This is a point of contention that potential customers should be aware of.

In summary, Sakura offers an entertaining hibachi dining experience suitable for both small and large groups, with the option of sushi. The environment is lively and interactive, with friendly service. While the food generally receives positive feedback, customers should be aware of a mandatory 18% gratuity added to the bill.

How many restaurants can entertain and satisy 22 people? The food was perfect and everyone raved about their selection. They put us in the back area, so we were not disturbing the other customers, or perhaps we were back there, so we were not being distracted. First, they brought waters and then took our orders asking how people wanted their meals prepared. Then soup or salad, fried rice with spinning eggs, a fire show, and lots of friendly chatter. There were a few squirts of saki in people's mouths and some airborn broccoli. Then came the meat , fish or vegetables. Everyone received a generous portion of fried rice and vegetables. With a tip, it averaged $20.00. The servers were very friendly. One person ordered sushi and sat with the rest of us. Only one person had enough on their plate for take home. Everyone asked to schedule another luncheon here, so we will be back. While we were waiting for everyone to arrive, Marge commented about all the high volume takeout service.

I could say something like this: “Definitely worth visiting, especially if you’ve never been to hibachi—great show, very fun experience and decent food!” But! You, dear owners, deserve only one star for including 18% gratitude. Pay salaries to your staff and let guests decide if they like your place or not! 🤬

They mandatory charged an 8% tip plus we have already given $20 tip to the cook 🧑‍🍳. The waitress had a bad attitude when we refused to pay $43 of tip and we were forced to pay the requested amount. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I enjoy the food, service, and atmosphere. I have been a regular customer at this establishment for years. Nevertheless, I do have one significant complaint: the absence of a changing table for infants. While some individuals may wonder why parents would bring babies to this venue, the reality is that families with infants often plan to dine here. In such instances, the lack of a changing table presents a substantial challenge. Clearly, changing a baby in a car is not a feasible option, especially during cold weather.

Honestly good for what you are paying for. This isn’t a Michelin star restaurant but you’re getting a pretty good meal for $20.
