About Sakura Garden Japanese Steakhouse
Sakura Garden Japanese Steakhouse is located at 120 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury, CT 06033, USA (phone: (860) 430-5600, mobile: +1 860-430-5600). While its physical location is in the United States, this introduction considers its potential appeal to local users in Singapore interested in Japanese cuisine, specifically hibachi and sushi.
Based on online reviews, experiences at Sakura Garden Japanese Steakhouse appear to be varied. One customer reported having a "fun time" with a "spectacular" hibachi experience and a "very good" chef. They found the hibachi food to be great, noting they had filet mignon while their wife enjoyed sushi, and their friends had chicken combos and sushi. However, this reviewer mentioned that the service could have been better, as they had to ask for their drink multiple times, and they were puzzled by the restaurant's choice to play sports on the big screen TVs in a Japanese steakhouse. Despite these minor issues, they indicated they would return.
Conversely, another customer had a significantly less positive experience during a weekday lunch. They ordered sirloin steak hibachi cooked rare but received it medium-well and chewy. They found the fried rice delicious but described the vegetables as mushy, overcooked, and excessively covered in teriyaki sauce. This reviewer also noted that a waitress discouraged their fiance from ordering a bento lunch, suggesting it was a small portion, only for their friends' bento lunches to have at least twice the amount of food as the sushi lunch their fiance ordered (at the same price). Most concerningly, the sushi ordered was described as inedible, sour, and foul-tasting, with a strong taste of chlorinated water, leading to illness afterward.
The environment seems to feature hibachi tables where chefs cook in front of customers, creating a potentially entertaining experience. However, the presence of large screen TVs playing sports might detract from the ambiance for some seeking a more traditional Japanese dining atmosphere. Service quality appears inconsistent, with one reviewer experiencing attentiveness issues while another reported pushy recommendations and potentially misleading information from the waitstaff.
Features include hibachi cooking, a sushi menu, and options like steak, chicken, and bento boxes. However, the quality and value of these offerings seem to be inconsistent based on the reviews. There is no promotional information available in the provided text.
For local users in Singapore considering this restaurant concept, the reviews present a mixed picture. While the hibachi experience can be entertaining and the food enjoyable for some, there are significant concerns raised about food quality (particularly the sushi and vegetables), potential issues with service, and value for money. Without more consistent positive feedback, especially regarding food safety and service, it is difficult to provide a strong recommendation based solely on this information.

We absolutely had a fun time. The hibachi was spectacular and our chef was very good. The food was great for a hibachi restaurant. The service could’ve been a little bit better I had to ask for my drink several times. We asked them to change the TV channel from something other than sports and they did change the channel but just to another sports channel, I don’t quite understand why Japanese steakhouse wants to play sports on big screen TVs I had to filet mignon my wife had some sushi and our friends had chicken combos and sushi themselves. We will go back. We had a great time.
My fiance and I came here on a weekday afternoon for lunch with two other friends. I ordered the sirloin steak hibachi cooked rare. The fried rice was delicious, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about our experience. The vegetables were mushy, overcooked, and smothered with a teriyaki sauce (to the point where I was basically eating teriyaki puree). My steak came out medium-well and chewy. My fiance really wanted to order a bento lunch box but the waitress kept trying to convince her that the portions were tiny and that anything else would be a better deal. She ended up ordering the sushi lunch, which was the same price as a bento lunch but only came with 4 pieces of sushi and a California roll. My friends ordered the bento lunch, which had at LEAST twice the amount of food as the sushi lunch. To add insult to injury, the sushi pieces that my fiance picked out were inedible. They were all sour and slightly foul as if they had already gone bad. Not only that, but every piece tasted heavily of chlorinated water, and she ended up getting sick when we went home.
The sushi was well priced but the service wasn't great. I have food allergies and the server seemingly didn't process one of my allergies and ended up with a roll, it wasn't stated it had crunch, with gluten in it. I did get it corrected but had to get up several times because the server didn't frequent our table often. They may have been busy with a larger party but it was a so so first experience. Maybe on any other day with a better server I may have enjoyed it but got now, I'll wait to revisit.
My friends and I went here for some lunch. The food was delicious and pretty quick to come out. The only downside was the waitress took a bit to take our order, and was pushing the “regular” portioned meals over the lunch portions which of course cost more. The lunch portions seemed more than adequate to me. We had a great time regardless
This is our go-to restaurant for special events, date night and happy hour. We bring friends here all the time. The fish is always fresh and the presentation exquisite. Drinks are generous. But the best is the service, especially if you get Lek as your server. She always remembers us and our drinks and how we like them. Always a fun experience.
