About Royal Unicorn Restaurant

Welcome to Royal Unicorn Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant situated at 615 NW Richmond Beach Rd, Shoreline, WA 98177, USA. For local users in the Shoreline area and beyond, Royal Unicorn offers a dining experience that combines a pleasant atmosphere with a diverse menu, including both familiar Chinese favorites and the occasional intriguing Filipino special. If you're looking for a Chinese Restaurant that provides a comfortable setting and friendly service, Royal Unicorn might be the delightful surprise you've been searching for.

One of the first things that stands out about Royal Unicorn, according to customer reviews, is the significant difference between its interior and exterior. While the outside might be unassuming, stepping inside reveals a space that is described as "super cozy and nicely decorated." This inviting ambiance creates a welcoming environment that enhances the overall dining experience, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.

The food at Royal Unicorn is generally considered "really tasty," indicating a kitchen that is capable of producing satisfying and flavorful dishes. While one reviewer's experience with a specific dish had some nuanced feedback, the overall sentiment suggests that the quality of the food is a significant draw for patrons. The service is also consistently praised as "awesome and friendly," highlighting the attentiveness and positive attitude of the staff, which contributes greatly to the enjoyable dining atmosphere.

For those who appreciate a comprehensive lunch menu featuring classic Chinese favorites, Royal Unicorn offers a selection that is likely to satisfy. One reviewer specifically tried the General Tso's chicken, a popular dish known for its crispy chicken in a sweet, savory, and slightly spicy sauce. The feedback on this dish was largely positive. The chicken pieces were described as being of a manageable size with a "nice crispy coating" and just the right amount of sauce to coat each piece without being overly saturated. The sauce also had a touch of spice, which was appreciated, though perhaps not as much heat as some might prefer.

The lunch special also included a choice of soup, with the reviewer selecting the hot and sour soup. While described as "fine," it was noted that it wasn't particularly hot or sour, suggesting a milder version of this typically vibrant soup. The reviewer found that adding a bit of soy sauce enhanced the flavor, indicating that it served as a decent accompaniment to the meal.

The vegetable fried rice that came with the lunch special was well-received, described as a "treat" that was "full of flavor" and provided in a generous portion. This positive feedback on a staple side dish indicates attention to detail in preparing even the supporting elements of the meal.

However, one element of the lunch special, the lumpia (Filipino spring roll), was a disappointment for the reviewer. Despite a satisfying crunch upon biting into it, the flavor was described as predominantly of butter, lacking the expected meatiness from the ground meat visible inside. This highlights the presence of Filipino dishes on the menu or specials board, which could be an interesting feature for those looking to try something beyond traditional Chinese cuisine. The reviewer's excitement at seeing these specials suggests that this could be a unique aspect of Royal Unicorn.

The service experience was positive, with a woman promptly greeting and seating the reviewer upon arrival and providing a menu. The tea and soup were served quickly, and the main plate followed shortly after the soup was finished, indicating efficient and attentive service.

The reviewer's overall impression was positive, noting the enjoyable "Asian flavors" experienced during the meal. The familiar scent of vanilla from the fortune cookie at the end of the meal evoked pleasant childhood memories of Chinese dining, adding a nostalgic touch to the experience. The bill for the lunch special and a pot of tea came to $18, which the reviewer paid without comment, suggesting it was a reasonable price for the meal.

Royal Unicorn Restaurant also appears to have ample parking available, as the reviewer mentioned finding "plenty of spaces" in the parking lot. This is a significant convenience for diners, especially in busier areas.

In conclusion, Royal Unicorn Restaurant in Shoreline offers a welcoming and cozy interior that belies its exterior. The food is generally tasty, with the General Tso's chicken and vegetable fried rice receiving positive feedback. The service is consistently described as awesome and friendly, contributing to a pleasant dining experience. The occasional Filipino specials add an intriguing element to the menu. While some dishes, like the hot and sour soup and lumpia in this specific review, had areas for potential improvement, the overall impression is of a "great place to eat." I pass by Royal Unicorn several times a week on my way to Richmond Beach. Every time, I say to myself, "I should check that place out." Well, last week was the time. I pulled in and wended my way through the parking lot to find plenty of spaces available. The possibility of finding good Chinese food got my mouth watering. Seeing Filipino dishes on the specials board got my inner foodie excited to try something new. A woman came out of the back right away, showed me to a table and handed me a menu. The lunch menu had all the usual Chinese favorites. I quickly zeroed in on one of my favorites - General Tso's chicken. It came with a choice of soup (I picked hot and sour), vegetable fried rice and lumpia. I added a pot of tea to my order. The tea and soup showed up right away. The tea was tea. Hot and tasty. The soup was fine, but not very hot and not very sour. I often give plain soup a shot of soy sauce to add a little flavor. That worked. The main plate arrived shortly after I finished my soup. I liked the look of the chicken. Each piece was a manageable size with a nice crispy coating. There was just the right amount of sauce - enough to get on every piece but not so much to cover the plate in goop. There was a bit of spice in the sauce, not as much as I like, but enough for most people. The fried rice was a treat. Full of flavor and there was plenty of it. The lumpia was a disappointment. My expectations were high because I love things stuffed into a fried wrapper. There was a satisfying crunch when I bit into it, but then the flavor hit me. It tasted of nothing but butter. I could see the ground meat inside, but there was no meatiness in there. I was properly full when I finished the plate and asked for the check. My mouth had all those Asian flavors in when I opened the fortune cookie packet and the familiar whiff of vanilla hit me. Memories of going out for Chinese food as a child flooded in. What a delight! My fortune said that "Flowers would brighten the day of your close friend tomorrow." I paid the $18 bill and looked on Google for a place to buy flowers.

New ownership, the restaurant and bar are so clean! Great food, I started eating so fast, I completely forgot to take pictures. They have a "Specials" menu- we ordered the pork buns and shu mai- both very good and good size. We also ordered: Hot and Spicy pork ribs- these are slightly breaded and tossed in a sauce similar to General Tsao Sesame Beef- the beef was tender and flavorful, served on a bed of glass noodles with green onions Mapo Tofu- which has a nice spicy kick. Everything was fantastic, I'll definitely come back! I can't wait to try more off the menu. We sat in the bar to watch football, it was awesome.

Called in a take-out order for dinner on the way home from Richmond Beach Park. Ordering was easy and straightforward from reading off their menu posted online. I'm spoiled in that I have eaten really good traditional Chinese and fusion Chinese food all over Asia and here in Seattle. I'd say the Royal Unicorn dishes I ordered were good enough for dinner in a pinch. The dining area looked clean and pleasant so we may come back again and dine in if we find ourselves nearby and hankering for Chinese food.

Highly highly recommend! Under new management lately and it's my favorite place to go in all of shoreline. Their food is fresh and authentic. I've gotten the coconut shrimp, beef curry, fried rice, chow mein and orange chicken. Never disappointed when I try something new.
