About Rose Garden Restaurant
Rose Garden Restaurant, situated at 15754 E 14th St in San Leandro, California, is a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category. Potential diners can reach them at (510) 278-1788 or +1 510-278-1788 for inquiries or to place orders. Based on recent customer feedback available online, experiences at Rose Garden Restaurant appear to be varied, with some positive aspects countered by significant negative encounters.
One detailed review described a particularly frustrating dine-in experience. The customer, who intended to order a specific luncheon item (#13, crispy bone-in chicken), faced a series of order mix-ups. Initially served wonton soup (the soup of the day, which was deemed "okay" with a minor issue of a slightly cool wonton center), the customer was subsequently presented with lemon chicken, which was not the ordered dish. Despite clarifying the order, the customer then received sesame chicken. While acknowledging that the sesame chicken was "pretty good" with an "extraordinarily crisp" coating, generous portions, and a simple, sweet sauce, it was still not what was originally requested.
Following this, a person assumed to be the cook inquired about the dish, leading to another confirmation of the original order. The cook then attempted to replace the sesame chicken, and the customer reluctantly agreed. The final dish served, presumably intended to be the crispy bone-in chicken, was met with considerable disappointment. The reviewer described it as "bad," noting a metallic aftertaste in the chicken, unexpected dryness, and a skin that was difficult to keep on the chicken and carried its own "strange aftertaste." The accompanying spicy sauce was described as "okay," being rich, sweet, with a hint of spice, but not enough to salvage the dish. This experience led the reviewer to conclude they would "never return" and advised future customers to communicate their orders with "excruciatingly certain terms," suggesting the restaurant might be better suited for "relatively cheap, and somewhat tasty americanized Chinese food." The reviewer strongly advised against ordering #13.
Another customer who had visited Rose Garden Restaurant a few times mentioned enjoying the cream cheese rangoons and the generous portions of their entrees. However, this reviewer also cited two alarming incidents that led them to stop patronizing the establishment. On one occasion, they reportedly found a piece of glass in their food, and on another, a thin piece of metal, possibly a twist tie. Despite acknowledging that the food was "very good," the potential risk of ingesting foreign objects was deemed too significant to continue dining there.
Considering these reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive overview of the environment and services of Rose Garden Restaurant. The first review suggests a casual setting where the person behind the counter also serves, indicating a potentially small or family-run operation. The repeated order errors might point to communication issues within the staff or between the kitchen and service areas. The second review does not offer insights into the ambiance but focuses solely on the food quality and safety concerns.
In terms of features, Rose Garden Restaurant appears to offer a menu that includes both familiar Americanized Chinese dishes (like sesame chicken and lemon chicken) and potentially some more traditional or specific items (implied by the "crispy bone-in chicken" which the first reviewer associated with Sichuan specialty places). The generous portions mentioned by one reviewer could be considered a positive feature for those seeking value for money. However, the significant inconsistencies in order fulfillment and the serious concerns about food safety raised by the presence of foreign objects are major drawbacks.
No information regarding current promotional offers at Rose Garden Restaurant is available in the provided text. It is common for restaurants to have lunch specials or other promotions, but interested customers would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any such deals.
In conclusion, based on the limited but impactful recent reviews, Rose Garden Restaurant in San Leandro presents a mixed picture. While some customers have appreciated certain dishes and portion sizes, there are significant concerns regarding order accuracy and, more seriously, food safety. The detailed account of multiple order errors and a severely disappointing main dish raises questions about consistency and kitchen execution. The separate report of finding glass and metal in the food is particularly alarming and suggests potential issues with food preparation or handling processes. For local users considering dining at Rose Garden Restaurant, it would be prudent to weigh these recent experiences and perhaps exercise caution when placing orders, ensuring clear and precise communication. Further investigation or more recent, positive reviews might be necessary to form a more balanced opinion of this establishment.

Customer Reviews
Came in at around noon after a long walk. I already had looked online and knew exactly what I was going to order. I ordered #13 off the Luncheon Menu: The crispy bone-in chicken. I've had what I believed to be the same dish at several restaurants, mostly Sichuan speciality places and they are almost universally excellent. After placing my order, the woman behind the counter confirmed number 13, and I said yes, number 13. After a very brief wait, they served me the soup of the day, some sort of wonton soup. It was okay. One wonton was slightly cool in the center, but it was a very large wonton, and the filling was clearly pre-cooked so it wasn't any concern. A very brief period after that, the first of three orders was presented to me. The woman behind the counter was doing double duty as the server, and sort of proudly declared lemon chicken. Confused, I told her that it was not what I ordered and she insisted it was. I insisted it was not and she asked what I did order. I told her again, that I had ordered the crispy bone in chicken, and she nodded, and stepped away with the chicken. After a slightly longer wait she set down a plate of sesame chicken and began walking away. This was absolutely not what I had ordered, but I did not want to cause any more trouble so began eating. To the credit of the restaurant, this was a pretty good sesame chicken. The coating was extraordinarily crisp, and the portions were very generous. The sauce was very simple, and quite sweet, but it was altogether very good. A bit into eating, a man (I assume to be the cook) came up to me and said sesame chicken, right? And I said that I was eating sesame chicken, though it was not what I ordered, but it was fine and that I did not mind. He asked what I did order and explained again, and he he checked the menu with me and began to take the food away. I protested mildly, but since he seemed set on replacing my meal, I relented. As he walked away , he told me to simply say the name of what I wanted rather than the number. Frustrated by the ordeal, I said nothing. After a decent wait, the food arrived. It was not what I expected, but the spicy sauce was intriguing enough that I tried it. The dish was bad. The chicken has a very metallic aftertaste, and is drier then I expected. The skin is very crisp but difficult to keep on the chicken, and carries it's own strange aftertaste. The sauce is okay, rich, sweet, and has just a tinge of spice. All in all, I will never return to Rose Garden, but if you properly communicate exactly what you want, in excruciatingly certain terms, you could probably fill yourself up with relatively cheap, and somewhat tasty americanized Chinese food. Do not order #13. It is perhaps the only Chinese food I've ever had that I would call terrible in every way
I've been here a few times and the cream cheese rangoons are my favorite. I also like the generous portions of their entrees. However, I had to stop going because one time I found a piece of glass in my food. Another time, some thin piece of metal (like a twist tie?). Very upsetting because the food is very good but I don't think it's worth potentially swallowing/chewing on glass for.
I ordered the chicken fried rice, the sweet and sour chicken, the shrimp chow mein and the beef and broccoli. Overall the food was pretty good except the sweet-and-sour chicken it was very soggy and the flavor wasn’t the best I definitely do not recommend this sweet-and-sour chicken BUT I do recommend this restaurant overall everything else was pretty good a tiny bit salty but overall good. I will order again if in the area.
Super salty food Moody owner We ordered salt pepper pork and Mongolian 3 and fried rice. All super salty, To a point my mouth felt dry and my tongue felt uncomfortable even after few minutes Told the owner, she said the taste supposed to be like that because it’s salt and pepper pork, it has a lot of salt to the point the green onion and jalapeños was covered with salt, even I don’t have hypertension, eating here might became cause. I was angry because felt being played and the food also super salty. It was really a bad day and bad experience eating at this restaurant. Definitely not coming back, What a waste of money
Came here for lunch and was NOT disappointed. Ordered the kung pao three combo and it was the perfect amount of deliciousness and spiciness. The cream cheese wonton was perfect and the complimentary tea hit the spot. I'm pretty sure they gave me an entire zucchini; the only thing I wasn't able to finish entirely 🤣. 11/10 would recommend.
