About Rice Roll Express
Welcome to Rice Roll Express, a bustling Chinese restaurant located at 1131 Stockton Street in the heart of San Francisco. Situated on a street known for its vibrant atmosphere and authentic Asian offerings, Rice Roll Express has quickly gained a reputation among locals for its exceptional rice rolls, generous portions, and remarkable value. If you're seeking a satisfying and affordable Chinese meal in a comfortable setting, Rice Roll Express is a destination worth exploring.
As a Chinese restaurant, Rice Roll Express specializes in a unique style of rice rolls that sets them apart from the more commonly found dim sum varieties. According to customer reviews, their rice rolls are notably thin, offering a different texture and experience compared to the thicker rice rolls typically encountered. This distinctive preparation has garnered high praise, with one reviewer proclaiming their "Rice Roll Special" as "one of the best rice rolls I've ever had." The texture is described as "silky and light," yet impressively filled, providing a delightful combination of delicate wrapping and substantial contents.
A standout feature of Rice Roll Express is their signature "Rice Roll Special," priced at an affordable $9.21. This popular dish allows customers to customize their rice roll with a choice of one vegetable, including options like bean sprouts, lettuce, cilantro, corn, or scallions. This combination of quality, customization, and price makes the special an exceptionally appealing option. Customers are also encouraged to enhance their rice rolls at the condiment station, which offers a variety of sauces, including chili oil and peanut sauce, allowing for personalized flavor profiles to perfectly suit individual preferences. The recommendation to top the rice roll with chili oil and soy sauce suggests a particularly delicious way to enjoy this specialty.
Beyond their acclaimed rice rolls, Rice Roll Express also offers other Chinese staples, such as their "Pork with Preserved Egg Congee," available in a large size for just $5.99. While one reviewer found the congee to be "a little bland," they noted that it could easily be improved with the addition of white pepper, highlighting the potential for customization and the already generous portion size for the price. The fact that two diners reported feeling "stuffed" after ordering only two items, including the rice roll special and the large congee, underscores the restaurant's commitment to providing filling portions at excellent value.
The environment at Rice Roll Express appears to be practical and accommodating. One reviewer noted the presence of "ample seating," including big tables, small tables, and counter space, making it relatively easy to find a place to sit, even when the restaurant is busy with locals. This spaciousness contributes to a comfortable dining experience, allowing customers to enjoy their meals without feeling cramped. The diverse clientele, ranging from elderly individuals to teenagers, further suggests a welcoming and accessible atmosphere that appeals to a broad spectrum of the community.
In terms of services, Rice Roll Express seems to prioritize efficiency and convenience. One customer reported receiving their order in just eight minutes, indicating a quick and streamlined service process. The provision of a well-stocked condiment station allows diners to personalize their meals to their liking, enhancing the overall dining experience. The fact that locals frequent the establishment, as noted by a first-time visitor, often speaks volumes about the consistent quality and value offered.

I walked by this place and saw a bunch of locals inside, decided to give it a try and am not disappointed. Filling portions, the #1 special is $9.21 and comes with choice of 1 vegetable (bean sprouts, lettuce, cilantro, corn, scallions). I got the soy milk as well, $2.76. Got the order after 8 minutes, and found seating easily because the dining room has ample seating (big tables, small tables, counter). Plenty of condiment choices as well, including chili oil and peanut sauce. The customers range from elderly to teenagers, and you can understand why after having it - great value for the price and large dining room.
How did they make the rice rolls so thin!! It's nothing like the ones you order from dim sum. Completely different. Rice Roll Special ($9.21) - One of the best rice rolls I've ever had. It's silky and light but still loaded with filling. Top it with chili oil and soy sauce at the sauce station. Deeelicious. Pork with Preserved Egg Congee ($5.99 for large) - A little bland but nothing some white pepper can't fix. The two of us were stuffed from only ordering two items. Great value too.
Delicious rice rolls. Places like these serve better rice rolls than restaurants and they're cheaper. Good variety condiments choices. I recommend you to heavy with the soy sauce. The soy milk is not bad, slightly watery but still very enjoyable. Service is pretty fast, plenty of seating.
Definitely a popular place! The rice rolls were super soft (texture wise), it melts in your mouth and on top of that the soy sauce that comes with it adds the salty flavor! Would definitely recommend!💜
Reasonable price with good quality. I stopped by around 9:30 am and ordering was quick. I waited about 10 mins for noodle soup and another 5 mins for rice roll. Both are tasty!
