About Rice on the Hill

Rice on the Hill is a Chinese restaurant located at 7207 E Riverside Dr, Austin, TX 78741, USA. They can be contacted at (737) 299-1382 or +1 737-299-1382.

Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at Rice on the Hill appear to be mixed. One customer who ordered the orange chicken with fried rice and fried wonton expressed confusion about the wontons, describing them as just fried wrappers. They noted that the orange chicken came with a sweet and sour sauce that seemed thin or not quite right, although they did eat all the chicken. The reviewer was particularly dissatisfied with the rice, describing it as "pretty bad" and ultimately throwing it away. They mentioned that the rice in the photos looked similar to what they received.

Another customer reported good service but had a significant negative experience finding what appeared to be a piece of wire from a scrub sponge in their food. This customer also stated that they ordered egg fried rice but did not receive it and that the wonton was not fried hard. Their total bill was $21.10.

As a local Chinese restaurant, Rice on the Hill offers a menu with dishes like orange chicken and fried rice. However, recent reviews indicate potential concerns regarding food quality, including the preparation of certain items like wontons and fried rice, the possibility of receiving incorrect orders, and, more seriously, issues with food safety.

I got the orange chicken with fried rice and fried wonton. I’m a bit confused on the wontons, they’re just fried wonton wrappers. The orange chicken came with sweet and sour sauce on the side, I ate all the chicken. It didn’t feel like the sauce was correct, it’s was pretty thin or something up. The rice was pretty bad, I ended up throwing it away. Not sure what to say there, I checked the photos after I ordered and the rice looks like what I got.

The service was good, but to find a piece of what looks like wire from a scrub sponge in my food is absolutely diabolical the total was $21.10 I asked for egg fried rice and that’s not what they gave me and the wonton wasn’t fried hard

An absolute NO. This was not good at all. I’ve had shrimp with garlic sauce at other Chinese restaurants and this isn’t even close to what I’m used to eating. The rice is just white rice with soy sauce over it, not fried. I was highly upset for trying something different instead of going to my usual places. I should’ve turned around and got my money back. The workers were kind, but this food is a no for me.

It looks good in picture with all the veggies and rice, but not enough meat. It is not real Chineese food. It's Mexican Chinese, good for Latino and white customer base. For Asians craving spicy Asian food should go to proper Asian place. Plus price was high too for a food truck.

So, my first time ever having Chinese from a food truck... Pretty good experience. It actually reminded me of the food trucks I experienced at college. I ordered the Sesame Chicken and was able to substitute the Lo Mein for the fried rice, egg drop soup and crab rangoon. The food was actually very good compared to what I expected... the crab rangoon was a little bit more rangoon than crab, though. I would definitely recommend trying the place at least once, those working inside were very nice as well.
