About Rice On Fire

Rice On Fire, located at 485 Howard Ave, New Haven, CT 06519, USA, is a Chinese Restaurant that, based on customer reviews, offers delicious and affordable food. It's described as a very small establishment with limited seating, accommodating around six people on stools across a long table. This suggests that Rice On Fire is primarily geared towards takeout service.

Despite its size, Rice On Fire has garnered positive feedback for the quality and flavor of its food. Customers consistently praise the dishes for being "awesome," "well seasoned," and "fresh." One particularly picky eater enjoyed the hibachi rice bowl with salmon and broccoli, noting that the broccoli and salmon were cooked perfectly. While they felt the protein portion could have been slightly larger, the flavor was described as "BIG." They also enjoyed the spicy mayo, finding it superior to the sweeter yum yum sauce.

Another reviewer who had never visited before tried the chicken wings and egg roll and found them "so delicious," even claiming the chicken wings were the best they had tasted in a long time in New Haven. This positive experience led them to try one of the bowls on a subsequent visit, opting for the salmon and jalapenos with rice, which they also found to be delicious and prompted them to plan a return visit soon.

The menu is described as "pretty basic," suggesting a focus on a select number of well-executed dishes rather than an extensive list. The affordability of the food is also highlighted in a review, making Rice On Fire an attractive option for those seeking tasty Chinese cuisine without breaking the bank.

In summary, Rice On Fire in New Haven, CT, offers flavorful and affordable Chinese food, with popular items including the hibachi rice bowl (especially with salmon and broccoli), chicken wings, and egg rolls. While the establishment is small with limited seating, it appears to be a great spot for takeout, praised for its well-seasoned, fresh ingredients and delicious sauces like the spicy mayo. It’s a very small establishment and has around six stools for you to sit on across this long table if you want seating. The menu is pretty basic. The food is awesome. Well seasoned and fresh. This was my first time eating here and I am a VERY VERY picky eater. I got the hibachi rice bowl with salmon and broccoli. The broccoli was cooked perfectly and so was the salmon. I wish I had added extra protein because it was lacking just a bit in terms of portion but was BIG on flavor. I got a side of yum yum sauce and spicy mayo. My favorite was the spicy mayo. The yum yum was a bit on the sweeter side, but still good. If I would give this place a 10/10 I would! Affordable and yummy food :)

I just happened to go in there recently. I have never been in there before and I ordered the chicken wings and egg roll and it was so delicious. The best chicken wings I've tasted in a very long time in New Haven so I said I wanted to try one of the bowls and I went back again today and I got the bowl with salmon and jalapenos and the rice. Everything was delicious so I would definitely be going back again very soon 👍

I walked into Rice on Fire today for the first time. This "hole-in-the-wall" in the middle of a somewhat depressed residential neighborhood was really a pleasant surprise. The menu is simple: you choose your protein, your vegetables, rice or noodles, and the sauce. They mix it all together on a flat grill-top, and your meal is ready in minutes. They also offer soup and egg rolls as additional options. Bottom line...the food is really flavorful, very fresh, and hot. Also, I paid under $10 for chicken stir fry with rice and a soda. Seating is extremely limited, so apparently the majority of their business is take-out, but don't let the appearance put you off. From the street, it looks like a neighborhood bodega, but you should really try Rice on Fire. The staff is friendly and helpful. The protein is real, and not processed meat. The vegetables are fresh, and the portions are ample. I've gotta say: if you're in the neighborhood (a few blocks down the street from New Haven Union Station) try this place out.

I ordered online for pick up. Lady that greeted me was awesome and sweet! The food was good, I got teriyaki sauce on the side and I definitely had to add it in otherwise flavor was kind of bland. BUT I was also told online my rice would have basic fried rice veggies like the carrots, peas, corn etc and I didn't get any of that. How you going to have hibachi rice and the name called rice on fire without the good stuff? I'd only come back if that was guaranteed since it was pretty good already but 4 star from me for that.
