About Rhodes North Tavern

While the platform category suggests Chinese Restaurant offerings, Rhodes North Tavern is located at 40 Orange Turnpike, Sloatsburg, NY 10974, USA, and operates as a local bar and grill. Based on recent customer feedback, the establishment has experienced changes under new ownership.

Some long-time patrons express disappointment with the current state, noting a decrease in popularity and potential operational changes like closures on holidays and reduced kitchen hours. They also mention a decline in food quality compared to previous experiences.

However, other customers have praised specific food items. The French onion soup has been described as "most delicious," and the ribs as "soft and juicy," indicating that the kitchen may still offer some well-received dishes.

Regarding service, some reviewers have pointed out areas for improvement. One customer mentioned being denied a beer sample and receiving an incorrect coffee order that was still charged at the higher price. This suggests that while the food can be good, the service experience may vary.

If you are in the Sloatsburg area and looking for an alternative to Chinese cuisine, Rhodes North Tavern offers a bar atmosphere with a menu featuring American dishes like ribs and French onion soup. However, it's advisable to consider recent reviews regarding potential changes in atmosphere, service, and food quality under the new ownership before your visit. I have been coming here for many years. No more. The new owner pretty much destroyed the place. It used to be full of people every single day. Now, no more new year party? Closed on new years? Closed half week? Before it was a place to go for new years. Always packed full! Very few people by the bar. Last time i came the kitchen was closed on Sunday... when kitchen is open the food is no longer good. Thats what happens when new owners change a perfect business. I give a year and the place will close. Very unfortunate. Maybe someone new will revive this place. Not current owner for sure!

It was the most delicious French onion soup. The ribs were soft and juicy. No complaints about the food! Taking away 1 star for service! We asked for a sample of one beer, which we were denied, when in all decent places this is not a problem! They also brought us a coffee drink with cinnamon instead of a cappuccino, because the coffee machine was broken, and they counted it as a cappuccino! Many issues could be resolved simply by talking to us. Overall a good place!

After hiking in Harriman State Park, our go-to spot for dinner is always Rhodes North Tavern, where we almost always indulge in their cheeseburgers. During our visit about a month ago, we stuck to our routine and ordered our cheeseburgers medium rare, accompanied by a side of French fries. To our satisfaction, our order was spot-on! The cheeseburgers were cooked impeccably, boasting a delightful pink and juicy interior. Admittedly, they leaned a tad towards medium, but hey, that's why we opt for medium rare, right? ;) However, the French fries didn't quite hit the mark. They had an odd taste, almost like they were sprinkled with something resembling sand. It was a bit disappointing considering how well the burgers were prepared. On a previous occasion, my husband decided to deviate from our cheeseburger tradition and opted for the ribeye steak, while I settled for the half-roasted chicken, as I wasn't feeling like having red meat that day. Unfortunately, neither of our dishes lived up to expectations. My husband's steak, despite being cooked to his liking, was disappointingly tough and sinewy. It was quite a challenge to eat. My chicken, ordered plain without any sauces, had an unusual yellow color and an off-putting taste. Initially, I suspected it might not have been fresh, but it's possible that it was due to some spices or seasoning that didn't agree with my palate. I managed to eat some of it, but it wasn't an enjoyable experience, so I ended up mainly sticking to the mashed potatoes. Despite the less-than-stellar experience with non-burger dishes, Rhodes North Tavern remains a top choice for burger enthusiasts. The service is consistently excellent, and the ambiance of the restaurant is quite pleasant. Overall, I still recommend giving this place a try, especially if you're in the mood for a delicious burger!

All the food here is good quality, especially the meat since their butcher is inhouse. The mussels are great too! This was also my go-to place for wings and beer for a while. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and the bar is cozy as are the booths. Joe the bartender is a real character and tends to make the bar experience quite entertaining! Prices went up a bit since covid but I guess that's to be expected. There's live music on the weekends and trivia nights are fun too. I love all the witty slogans on the walls. It's nice to visit Rhodes any season, space outback is nice for warmer days and the inside is cozy on cold or rainy nights.
