When choosing a local restaurant, especially one offering takeout and potentially delivery, it's often helpful to consider the experiences shared by other customers. Online reviews can provide insights into various aspects of the service, including order accuracy, customer service interactions, and the quality of the food. It's important to note that these are individual accounts and may not represent every customer's experience.
One customer review describes a negative experience with a pickup order placed online through Seamless. According to this review, the customer received the wrong order upon arrival. When they requested the correct order, the staff member allegedly refused to make the change, purportedly because the correct order was less expensive. The customer stated they were willing to forgo a refund and simply wanted the order they had placed. The situation escalated when the customer contacted Seamless, who then called Red Star. The staff member at Red Star reportedly told Seamless that they were out of chicken wings, despite the customer claiming to see a full bowl of chicken wings at the restaurant. The customer further alleges that when they questioned the staff member about this discrepancy, they were ignored. This review raises concerns about order accuracy and customer service responsiveness, particularly regarding the handling of order errors.
In contrast, another customer shared a very positive experience at Red Star. This reviewer specifically highlighted the excellent service provided by a "new young gentleman" who was described as "very friendly and accommodating." This staff member reportedly made the customer feel "very welcome and appreciated." The reviewer ordered the Shrimp Egg Fung Young with extra shrimp and brown rice, along with an order of fried chicken wings. The staff member, noticing the customer's walker, proactively doubled their bag. The reviewer also noted that even the cook was friendly. They found their meal to be "delicious" and a significant improvement from a previous visit months prior, expressing regret for not returning sooner. Notably, this review also mentions that Red Star had recently built a ramp for wheelchair and walker access, indicating an effort to improve accessibility for customers with mobility issues.
These two reviews present a stark contrast in customer experiences at Red Star. One highlights issues with order accuracy and unhelpful customer service, while the other praises the friendly and accommodating service, delicious food, and improved accessibility. This suggests that the quality of service and food might vary, or that different customers may have different types of interactions and experiences.
As a Chinese restaurant in New York City, Red Star likely offers a menu featuring a variety of classic Chinese-American dishes. Based on the positive review, their menu includes items such as Shrimp Egg Fung Young and fried chicken wings. The mention of brown rice suggests they may offer healthier alternatives to white rice. The fact that a customer could order extra shrimp indicates some level of customization might be possible. Given the takeout nature implied by the first review (online order for pickup), their menu would likely be well-suited for takeout and potentially delivery.
The address, 2060 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd in Harlem, New York City, is a specific location for those interested in picking up orders or potentially dining in, although the first review suggests a focus on takeout. The availability of both a landline and a mobile phone number indicates that they can be contacted for placing orders or inquiries. The positive review mentioning a ramp suggests that they have made efforts to improve physical accessibility to their premises.
For local users in Harlem and the surrounding areas of New York City considering Red Star, these reviews offer a mixed perspective. The negative review raises concerns about order fulfillment and customer service when errors occur. However, the positive review highlights excellent and thoughtful service, good food, and improved accessibility. Potential customers may want to consider these contrasting experiences and perhaps look for more recent reviews to see if there is a consistent trend or if experiences vary significantly.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current environment, services, and any potential promotional information at Red Star, it would be beneficial to consult other online review platforms for additional customer feedback. These platforms might offer a broader range of opinions on the restaurant's food quality, service consistency, and overall atmosphere. Additionally, contacting the restaurant directly via phone at (212) 866-3988 or +1 212-866-3988 can provide the most up-to-date information regarding their menu, hours, services (takeout, delivery, any dine-in options), and any current promotions they might be running.
In conclusion, Red Star is a Chinese restaurant located in Harlem, New York City, offering takeout and potentially delivery services. Customer reviews present contrasting experiences, with one highlighting issues with order accuracy and customer service, and another praising the friendly and accommodating service, good food, and accessibility. Local users are encouraged to consider these viewpoints and seek additional information or contact the restaurant directly for the most current details before placing an order.

Place an order online with seamless for pickup, go pickup my order it's the wrong orderš”.. The lady said I'm not changing for you!!! I said it's not what I ordered why you refusing to change it because it's less money, I don't want no money back just give me what I want you can keep the extra$2-$3... So now I contact seamless and they called red star the lady told her she don't have anymore chicken wings and I'm clearly standing in red star looking at a full bowl of chicken wings. I asked her why she told them she has no more chicken wings she ignoring me...
It was the BEST. There was a new young gentleman whom I never saw before. He was very friendly and accommodating. He made me feel very welcome and appreciated. I had the Shrimp Egg Fung Young with $2 extra shrimp with brown rice and an order of fried chicken wings. He notice I had a walker, (he read my mind) and double my bag. Even the cook was friendly. My meal was delicious compared to the last time I was there. I was so disappointed that I had not been back in months. I was so glad I stopped by. P.S. They even built a ramp for the access of my walker.
ATTENTION: STAY CLAIRE OF SPEAR RIB TIPS I ordered this last night. They were dark and very dry. Gave me a tummy ache. Always check your food before leaving. Service was much better than the food.
Decent food--nothing too special. WARNING: They've got a handy means of ordering food online, but the operators don't check the computer reliably so you're likely better off calling the place. We waited an hour after ordering online before I followed up by phone just to hear that the lady hadn't had the computer on, and that they'd get the food to us ASAP.
Horrible experience! I placed a order for 2 pepper steaks with fried rice I walked 5 blocks and opened my order and to my surprise it was fried crab sticks and fried rice I went back and was greeted with a attitude and told I need to pay the difference of 5 dollars and the kicker was she took both orders that had been opened of food and put them back in the bowl on the stove to resell to someone else! What a disgrace!
