About Red Pepper

Located at 1083 Main St, Worcester, MA 01603, USA, Red Pepper distinguishes itself as a Chinese restaurant specializing in Szechuan cuisine, a regional style known for its bold and spicy flavors. Customers have consistently praised the restaurant for offering some of the best Szechuan dishes in the city.

Red Pepper offers a lunch special menu, which includes popular dishes like General Tso’s chicken served with hot and sour soup and steamed rice. Lunch also comes with a pot of hot tea. The food is described as well prepared, tasty, and offered in good portion sizes. Notably, the hot and sour soup is mentioned to be quite spicy, which may appeal to those who enjoy heat, while milder options like egg drop or wonton soup (without red pepper) are also available.

A significant feature of Red Pepper is its selection of Mala dishes, which are highly sought after in Worcester. Customers have enjoyed the dry beef hot pot and the Mala pot without fish, both noted for their nice level of spice. While some may prefer even more heat, the spice level is generally well-received. The dry pot is described as having a slightly sweeter profile while still being flavorful. Despite a total cost of around $50 for two people (excluding tip), customers report generous leftovers, indicating good value.

The service at Red Pepper is described as sufficient, with staff being friendly, polite, and attentive. Food is served in a timely manner. The ambiance is straightforward, providing a comfortable and casual setting for diners who want to sit down and enjoy authentic Chinese dishes rather than just grabbing quick, greasy takeout. While the decor is not particularly fancy, it contributes to a relaxed dining experience.

Accessibility for physically handicapped individuals is available via a ramp at the side entrance from the parking lot, although the street entrance has a step. Overall, Red Pepper is highly recommended for those seeking authentic and flavorful Szechuan cuisine in Worcester, with many customers expressing their intention to return and bring friends. For inquiries or reservations, they can be contacted at (774) 243-6488 or mobile phone +1 774-243-6488.

Review based on initial visit for lunch. Ordered off the lunch special menu — General Tso’s chicken with hot and sour soup, steamed rice. Lunch is served with a pot of hot tea. Food was well prepared, tasty and good portion size. The hot and sour soup was really spicy — I like it; but some might opt for the (no red pepper) egg drop or won ton soup. I never order fried rice on a first visit — try the steamed rice: if this is of decent quality and well prepared, the restaurant’s food is likely to get a 4 or better rating. Physically handicapped accessible from parking lot — ramp at side entrance. Street entrance has a step. I’ve tried several Chinese restaurants in Worcester and this is the best one so far, and the only one offering a range of Szechuan dishes. 12/16/24 - raising my food rating to a 5. For Worcester, best Szechuan I have had in the city.

I love Mala. This is one of the only places in Worcester where you can order Mala dishes. We got the dry beef hot pot and the Mala pot without fish. Both had very nice spice, I could honestly handle more spicy but my fiancé would probably faint from it. The dry pot was more on the sweeter side, but it still tastes good. Together, the food cost about $50 dollars for both of us, without tip--however, we had two trays worth of leftovers to bring home! The service was sufficient. The staff were friendly, polite, attentive, and sent our food out in a timely manner. The ambiance is very straightforward. It's not just a quick pickup spot where you can pick up the greasy, fried Chinese food, but it's an actual place you can sit down and taste some authentic Chinese dishes. The decor is not the best, but it's very comfortable and casual. We would definitely return with our friends!

For me, the most important thing is the food. Here spicy means spicy (haven't had everything yet) and I like spicy. It's comfortable and quiet. Staff seems efficient and cautious. Always a good sign that it's popular with the Chinese residents.
