About Red Gem

Located at 6643 S Tacoma Way in Tacoma, Washington, Red Gem operates within the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a range of dishes for local diners. Based on available customer feedback, Red Gem is recognized for the quality of its food, with a particular highlight being the combination fried rice. This suggests that for those seeking flavorful and well-prepared Chinese cuisine in the Tacoma area, Red Gem presents a potential option.

One of the standout features mentioned by a customer is the deliciousness of the food, specifically pointing out the combination fried rice. This positive feedback indicates that Red Gem excels in creating flavorful dishes that satisfy customer palates. For individuals who appreciate classic Chinese-American fare, the combination fried rice at Red Gem may be a compelling reason to visit or order from this establishment.

However, alongside the positive remarks about the food, it's important to consider other aspects of the dining experience at Red Gem, as noted by customer reviews. One significant point of feedback concerns the service speed. A customer reported that the service was slow due to there being only one server on duty at the time of their visit. This suggests that during busy periods or times with limited staffing, patrons may experience delays in receiving their orders. Therefore, potential customers should be aware of the possibility of slower service and exercise patience, especially if dining in during peak hours.

Another practical consideration for those planning to visit Red Gem is the issue of parking. A review explicitly mentions that parking is limited at the restaurant. This could pose a challenge for customers driving to the location, particularly during busy mealtimes. To mitigate this, the reviewer advises arriving early to secure a parking spot or opting for takeout service if parking availability is a concern. This suggests that while the food may be appealing, accessibility in terms of parking might be a factor for some customers.

In addition to comments on food and service, one review provided specific feedback on certain aspects of Red Gem's offerings and service standards. The reviewer explicitly stated that Red Gem does not offer house-made noodles. For customers who specifically seek out restaurants with freshly made noodles, this information is crucial and indicates that the noodle dishes at Red Gem are likely made with commercially sourced noodles.

The same review also raised concerns about the service quality in relation to tipping. The customer indicated that the service was not reasonable for tipping, further elaborating by stating there were "no smiles at all" from the service staff. This suggests a potential issue with the friendliness and attentiveness of the service, which could impact the overall dining experience for some patrons. While the taste of the food is important, the quality of service also plays a significant role in customer satisfaction.

Finally, the review commented on the menu prices, stating that they were "not at all" reasonable. This suggests that Red Gem's pricing may be higher compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, at least in the opinion of this particular customer. Potential diners who are budget-conscious may want to consider this feedback and perhaps inquire about the menu prices beforehand to ensure they align with their expectations.

Based on the available information, Red Gem Chinese Restaurant in Tacoma offers delicious food, with the combination fried rice being a notable highlight. However, potential customers should be aware of potential drawbacks such as slow service due to limited staffing, limited parking availability, the lack of house-made noodles, and potentially higher menu prices. The feedback regarding the service being "not at all" reasonable for tipping, coupled with the mention of a lack of smiles, also suggests that the service experience might not be a strong point for all customers.

For local users in Tacoma looking for Chinese cuisine, Red Gem presents a mixed picture. If the quality of the food, particularly the combination fried rice, is the primary concern and one is willing to potentially experience slower service, navigate limited parking, and pay potentially higher prices for dishes made without house-made noodles, then Red Gem could be a viable option. The suggestion to arrive early for parking or to opt for takeout might be particularly useful for those prioritizing the food while wanting to avoid some of the potential downsides of dining in.

In summary, Red Gem is a Chinese restaurant in Tacoma known for its tasty food, especially the combination fried rice. However, customers should be prepared for potentially slow service due to limited staffing, challenges with parking, the absence of house-made noodles, and menu prices that may be considered higher than average. The feedback on service friendliness also warrants consideration. Therefore, while Red Gem may offer flavorful dishes, a balanced perspective that takes into account these other factors is advisable for local users considering dining at or ordering from this establishment. There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews.

Food was delicious, especially the combination fried rice. The service was slow due to it was just one server at the moment, so I advise patience to everyone. Also parking is limited, so show up early or get it to go.

The tangsuyug sauce, which is meant to be thick so that it can go with the pork, was almost entirely lacking in flavor; jajangmyeon, which used to taste extremely great, had become so bland that it was virtually unrecognizable. It almost tasted like microwaved dinner because the vegetables in the tangsuyug sauce were raw and undercooked. It tastes different now that I have been coming here for a while. This is not a place to waste your money.

Food was good Update 6 April 2024 - I went in for lunch today. The food was excellent 👌. Service a little slow and mistake on bill. I think she was overwhelmed by herself. Corrected it immediately. I will still go back because of the quality of the food and friendliness.
