Based on the available customer reviews, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar has cultivated a reputation for its enjoyable dine-in experience. Several patrons have highlighted the consistently positive experiences they've had when dining at the restaurant itself. One recurring positive comment revolves around the "bean sauce," which is described as "especially good," suggesting it might be a signature condiment or ingredient that sets their dishes apart. Additionally, the restaurant boasts an "interesting drink menu," indicating a potential focus on offering a variety of beverages that complement their food offerings.
A standout appetizer mentioned by multiple reviewers is the "Szechuan wonton," which is described as "worth trying" and "very delicious." This suggests that it is a popular and well-received starter. Another appetizer, the "Cream Cheese Wontons," also received positive feedback, being described as "very delicious" by a first-time visitor.
The atmosphere of Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar is characterized as "casual" and "chill and laid back," suggesting a comfortable and relaxed setting for diners. The service has been consistently praised as "friendly and attentive" and "friendly and quick," indicating that the staff contributes positively to the overall dining experience. One reviewer even noted the promptness of the service, mentioning that they received their food perhaps within just 10 minutes of ordering.
However, it is important to note a significant discrepancy highlighted in one of the reviews regarding the quality of food ordered through a third-party delivery service (Door Dash) compared to the dine-in experience. The reviewer explicitly stated that the delivery experience was "not even close" to their positive dine-in experiences. Specific issues were mentioned, including the beef in the Beef and Broccoli being dry, and the General Tso's Chicken not resembling the dish they had previously enjoyed at the restaurant. Despite this negative delivery experience, the reviewer expressed a clear intention to dine at the restaurant again, while advising others to avoid delivery.
This feedback underscores the importance of distinguishing between the dine-in and delivery quality, suggesting that the restaurant may excel in its in-house preparation and service but might face challenges in maintaining the same standards when the food is transported. For local users considering Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar, the reviews strongly recommend the dine-in option for the best experience.
Given the positive remarks about the atmosphere and service, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar appears to be a welcoming place for individuals and couples looking for a relaxed dining environment. The interesting drink menu adds another dimension to the experience, potentially making it a suitable spot for a casual evening out. The consistently praised appetizers, particularly the Szechuan wontons, seem to be a must-try for first-time visitors.
Information regarding specific promotional offers or unique features beyond the food and drink menu is not provided in the reviews. It would be beneficial to check if Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar has a website or social media presence where they might announce specials, happy hour deals, or any other promotions. In summary, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar in Minneapolis offers a pleasant dine-in experience characterized by a casual atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, and delicious food, particularly the bean sauce and the Szechuan wonton appetizer. They also feature an interesting drink menu. However, customer feedback indicates that the quality of food may not be consistent when ordered through delivery services. Therefore, for local users looking to experience Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar at its best, dining in is strongly recommended based on the available reviews. To learn about any current promotions or special offerings, direct contact with the restaurant is advised.
Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar distinguishes itself as a local Minneapolis establishment that provides not only Chinese cuisine but also a bar service, suggesting a broader appeal for different occasions. The consistently positive remarks about the dine-in atmosphere and the quality of certain dishes, like the Szechuan wontons and the intriguing bean sauce, make it a noteworthy option for those seeking a relaxed and flavorful dining experience. The friendly and quick service further enhances the appeal of dining at the restaurant. However, the reported issues with delivery quality serve as a crucial point for consideration for those who might prefer to enjoy their meals at home. For the full experience, a visit to the restaurant itself seems to be the preferred way to enjoy what Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar has to offer.
For local residents of Minneapolis, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant & Bar presents itself as a Chinese restaurant that goes beyond just food, offering a bar with an interesting drink selection. We’ve been here a few times now and it never lets me down. The bean sauce is especially good and I love exploring the interesting drink menu. The schezwan wonton appetizer is worth trying. The atmosphere is casual and the service is friendly and attentive. *I’m adding a note to say that we ordered food through Door Dash and unfortunately it was not even close to the dine in experience that we’ve had. The beef in the Beef and Broccoli was dry. The General Taos Chicken did not resemble the dish that we received while dining in the restaurant. That said, I will definitely dine there again but will avoid delivery.
First time eating here. My wife and I were happy we chose this place out of a whim. The atmosphere is really chill and laid back. The service was friendly and quick. I’m almost certain that we had received our food maybe 10 mins after ordering. The Szechuan Wontons and Cream Cheese Wontons were both very delicious. Our entrees were fantastic! We’re definitely coming back when we make our way up to Minneapolis.
The best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time. Wow, so fresh and light. I forgot to take pictures before we started because it looked so good!
One of my favorite restaurants in the twin cities. Chef Tammy is the best! The restaurant is always spotless, probably the cleanest dining room I’ve ever seen. The staff is always wonderful. The food is fresh and locally sourced. Please support Rainbow, it’s a wonderful restaurant and a staple of the community. ❤️❤️❤️
Food tasted like old fryer oil. Service was pretty weird. Tried to send the sesame chicken back but nothing could be done. Oh well. At least they work with local farms so that’s cool.
