FIFTY BAY Intro

FIFTY BAY is a Chinese restaurant located at 150-50 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. They can be contacted at (718) 353-2328 or their mobile number +1 718-353-2328.

As a Chinese restaurant, FIFTY BAY appears to offer a variety of dishes, including a selection of dim sum. Based on customer reviews, the dining environment on a Thursday evening was described as somewhat quiet, with only about four tables occupied. One customer noted that the manager or someone taking orders seemed insistent on promoting live fish and king crab, which they found to be a waste of time when they were not interested in those items. This customer found the overall food to be bland and suggested that other Chinese restaurants on Northern Boulevard, such as Canton Manor or Golden Wonton, might offer a better experience. They did, however, mention that the service was good and attentive.

Another review focused on a Saturday afternoon visit for dim sum after peak hours. This customer reported that many of the dim sum items were not served hot enough. Specific dim sum items mentioned include shu mai (燒賣), shrimp dumplings (蝦餃), crispy spring rolls (春卷), chive dumplings (香煎韭菜餃), egg tarts (蛋撻), fried black sesame balls (黑芝麻球), and green tea salted egg custard buns (綠茶流沙包).

Opinions on specific dim sum items varied. The green tea salted egg yolk bun was described as "meh," with a subtle green tea flavor and insufficient lava filling, although it was noted to be less greasy than usual. The egg tarts were said to be fresh out of the oven, but the custard was bland and the shell not flaky. The black sesame balls were cold and no longer crispy. The pan-fried chive dumplings were considered a favorite and a safe savory option, while the spring rolls were reported to be up to standard.

Based on the available reviews, FIFTY BAY offers a range of Chinese cuisine, including dim sum. The service has been noted as good. However, some customers have found the food to be bland or not served at the optimal temperature, particularly during off-peak hours. The quality of individual dim sum items appears to vary. There is no information provided regarding the restaurant's ambiance or any specific promotional offers.

Food was bland. Went here on a Thursday for dinner and it was a bit quiet with about 4 tables total. The manager or whomever came over to take our order keep pushing us for live fish and king carb. We knew we weren't getting so he just kept wasting our time. In total we orders about 9 dishes and we had a lot of leftovers. Compared to the other restaurants on Northern, you're better off at canton manor or golden wonton. Btw service was good and tentative.

We went there at 2pm on Saturday after the peak hours, so most dim sums we got weren’t hot enough… I looked forward to trying the green tea salted egg yolk bun but it was meh. The green tea flavor didn’t stand out, and there weren’t enough lava fillings imo. It was indeed less greasy than regular salted egg yolk bun so still worth a try. Only the egg tarts were fresh out of oven, but the custard part was bland and the shell wasn’t flaky. The black sesame balls were cold so the crust was no longer crispy. My favorite dim sum was the pan fried chive dumplings. It was the safest savory dimsum and hard to be messed up. Spring rolls also lived up to standard.

Great place for Dim Sum! We came here on Sunday during lunch time for dim sum. We had a large group and had to get split up between 2 tables which were right next to each other. We got seated pretty quickly. However, soon afterwards the wait got longer and longer and the restaurant was pretty busy. The food was great! The dishes were nicely flavored, but not over bearing and not too oily. They had a lot of unique takes on dim sum dishes and desserts. The food was all pretty fresh. I would definitely recommend this place and want to return for dim sum as well as try their dinner menu. They have valet parking in the back, as well as street parking which can be a hit or miss depending on the day and time. The service was decent, nothing special. Price was average.

Food was average -- nothing special, but our experience might have been affected by our timing. We came here a little after 1pm, and it was still very busy, but a lot of the food we got was cold/lukewarm. We tried the spring rice rolls, steamed shrimp dumplings, pineapple BBQ pork buns, snow mountain oatmeal buns, spare pork ribs, lotus wrapped sticky rice, and pan-fried chive dumplings. I liked how for the most part, the food wasn't overly sweet or salty. Everything tasted alright, but the temperature of the food was just not ideal. - The pineapple roast pork buns were good -- both the bun and filling were not too sweet, and the buns were soft and fresh. - The snow mountain oatmeal bun wasn't bad either (also not too sweet). The bun and eggy cream was cold though, which I didn't mind, but we weren't sure if it was supposed to be chilled like that. - The pan-fried chive dumplings tasted good too, but the plate we got was already cold. It was pretty greasy, but I like that it had a lot of shrimp in the filling and that the skin wasn't so thick. - The shrimp rice rolls we got were lukewarm. I didn't like it as much because there was too much rice paper and not enough shrimp. - I only tried a little bit of the spare pork ribs and lotus wrapped sticky rice, but I thought they both tasted good. The servers are nice. I've been to busy dim sum spots where servers would just be dismissive and rude, but no one here was like that, despite how busy they were. I wouldn't come out of my way to visit this place, but I think down in the line I wouldn't be opposed to coming back here at an earlier time in the day to hopefully catch them when most of their food is fresh.

Classic Chinese restaurant. Service is kind and the dishes are as great as I think they can be. I get special service because my in-laws are regular clients. The crab is usually marvelous, order it. We had a special celebration once and it was fine. Bathrooms are alright.
