While the name suggests a market and cafe, it functions as a restaurant serving Filipino cuisine, offering both dine-in (buffet) and takeout options.
Recent customer reviews highlight several aspects of Philippine Market & Cafe. One reviewer described it as a "low-key, no-frills place to eat" that was packed with customers, attributing this to the "incredible food" offered on the buffet. They mentioned piling their first plate high due to the variety of appealing options.
Another customer, unfamiliar with Filipino food, noted that everything smelled and tasted good and expressed their intention to return, indicating a positive initial experience.
A third reviewer mentioned visiting to get lunch and Filipino sweet breads based on a recommendation. They found the cashier to be very helpful and pleasant. According to this review and others, the restaurant serves a buffet lunch from 11 am to 2 pm. Upon arrival before 11 am, the place was already full. This customer opted for a to-go box, which cost around $13.00. The takeout selections included pork and chicken bbq, various types of pancit, vegetable lumpia, lumpia shanghai, mungo with ampalaya leaves (which they specifically came for and appreciated the convenient packaging), Filipino fried chicken, and kare-kare (which they felt could use more peanut sauce but had well-cooked vegetables). The reviewer also noted that there were more options available, as seen in accompanying pictures, and expressed a desire to dine in next time.
Philippine Market & Cafe appears to be a popular spot for Filipino food in Valparaiso, with a bustling atmosphere, especially during the buffet lunch hours (11 am - 2 pm). They offer a variety of traditional Filipino dishes, including bbq, noodles (pancit), various types of lumpia, and stews like kare-kare and mungo with ampalaya leaves, as well as Filipino sweet breads. The service has been described as friendly and helpful. For local users looking for authentic Filipino cuisine, both for dining in via the buffet or taking away, Philippine Market & Cafe seems to be a well-regarded option.

I love me a low-key, no-frills place to eat. This spot has it. It took me a moment to figure out where to go in. They were packed. I knew why though. The buffet had so much incredible food I walked away with a first plate over flowing because I couldn’t decide on what I wanted. If you’re a Filipino food expert, you may have some major opinions. This southern white girl just knows that everything smelled and tasted good. I don’t remember the last time I had Filipino dishes to even compare. I’ll be back.
Came to visit my aunt and she told me about getting lunch and a few Filipino sweet breads from here. The lady at the cashier was very helpful and pleasant. They serve a buffet lunch from 11 am to 2 pm according to other reviews. We got there before 11 and the place was full. We didn’t stay but got a to go box(about $13.00/box based on my receipt ). The selections were great from pork /chicken bbq, various pancit, vegetable lumpia, lumpia shanghai, mungo with ampalaya leaves(this was what we came for and they provided a styrofoam cup for it which was very convenient), Filipino fried chicken, and kare-kare(that could use more peanut sauce though the veggies were done well) and much more if you look at the pictures included on this post. I would like to stay and dine in next time.
We travelled from SC to pick up my daughter and didn’t have time for a dine in. We stop by for a to go plate. The food selection was limited and it was a few minutes before closing. But the staff are very accommodating and nice people. They’re all smile and thank us for stopping by. My daughter really love this place that’s why we had to try. Wish we had time to go there the next day but we left home early. The binignit that we had tasted great, but definitely can improve by adding vanilla. Other than that everything was good. Food that reminds me of us of home. My pictures aren’t that great to showcase their food. But this was taken during the few visits my daughter made with her friends. The place is all you can eat Filipino food.
My husband and a coworker were in town for work and went here for lunch on Tuesday. They currently have norovirus. Make sure to wash your hands; buffets can be very contagious. My husband stated the food was salty and burnt, and when he got to his room at night, he began vomiting, etc. Please be careful
2024-May: we arrived at noon. The food was delicious! And the staff are so polite and very attentive. Really hard workers! And the price is very reasonable! Bon Appétit 😋 ---------------------------------- 2022-Feb: We arrived at 1 pm. The front parking was busy. We parked behind the building. The facility has a little grocery inside. It's clean. It has single-stall toilets. Jennie, the owner, and her sister Lina, were both nice. The restaurant side of the facility is only open every 11 am to 2pm on Monday through Friday. They are close on Saturdays & Sundays. The market side is open until 7 pm Sunday through Friday. We were seated right away. The lady took our drink order right away. We grabbed a plate and tried each entree in the buffet. Lots of choices (from chicken adobo, sinigang soup, pinakbet, pork bbq, pansit bihon, pansit sotanghon, and so much more!! They even have banana-Q, corn bread, and ginataang bilo-bilo! Very, very tasty! 4 of us, with one soda drink, our total came to $60.23 with tip. Bon Appétit!
