Customer reviews for Peter Chang Cafe present a somewhat mixed picture, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of the dining experience. One reviewer shared a very positive sentiment, stating that it has been their and their wife's "go to chinese spot since moving to Virginia." They specifically mentioned several dishes they regularly order, including the "hot and numbing chicken pot" and "grandmas sweet and sour chicken" for their main courses. For appetizers, they recommended the "lettuce wraps" or the "scallion bubble pancake." This reviewer consistently found the food to be "always delicious" and praised the service as "top notch." They also commented on the atmosphere, describing it as "cozy for such high end flavor" and concluded with a "Highly recommend" endorsement.

However, another reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction with their recent experiences. They stated that "These people need a chef," indicating a strong negative opinion about the food quality. Specifically mentioning the Kung Pao chicken dish, they noted that they had tried the restaurant again in hopes of improvement based on reviews, but found the chicken to be "dried out." They also reported that the "beef and snow peas were terrible." This reviewer expressed a willingness to pay for good food but felt that the quality was lacking. They also recalled past experiences where dishes they regularly ordered were "very watered down" and that they had to request for them not to be. In their most recent visit, which was on a Saturday, they found the chicken to be "so dry you could barely eat it," marking it as their fourth attempt to get the quality they had experienced in the past and concluding it would be "The last." They advised others to "Go somewhere else and try to do your research," noting that even their own research had not yielded the desired outcome. They did mention that on a different day, the food had been "more descent," suggesting potential inconsistency in food quality, possibly related to staffing or the day of the week, with Saturday being specifically called out as having a "chef problem," leading them to throw their "Garbage" away again.

Considering these contrasting reviews, Peter Chang Cafe appears to have the potential to offer delicious food and excellent service, as highlighted by the loyal customer who frequents the restaurant. The specific dishes they recommended, such as the hot and numbing chicken pot, grandma's sweet and sour chicken, lettuce wraps, and scallion bubble pancake, seem to be popular and well-received when prepared to a high standard. However, there are also significant concerns raised about the consistency of food quality, particularly issues with dryness of chicken, poor preparation of other dishes like beef and snow peas, and potential inconsistencies based on the day of the week. The mention of past issues with watered-down dishes also suggests a need for attention to detail in food preparation.

Based on the positive review, it is reasonable to assume that Peter Chang Cafe offers both dine-in and takeout services. The fact that a couple considers it their regular "go to chinese spot" implies they likely frequent the restaurant for both types of service. Delivery options are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, so it is unknown if they offer this service. However, given its location on West Broad Street, it is likely accessible for both dining in and picking up orders.

The features of Peter Chang Cafe, based on the available reviews, include a menu with popular dishes like the hot and numbing chicken pot, grandma's sweet and sour chicken, lettuce wraps, and scallion bubble pancake, which have been praised for their deliciousness. The atmosphere is described as "cozy for such high end flavor," suggesting a comfortable yet refined dining environment. When the food is prepared well, the service is considered "top notch." However, a potential inconsistency in food quality, with issues like dryness, poor preparation, and watered-down dishes reported by another reviewer, is a significant concern. This inconsistency might be related to kitchen staffing or the day of the week.

There is no information provided regarding any specific promotional offers or discounts for Peter Chang Cafe. The positive reviews seem to be based on the regular dining experience and the quality of the food and service when it meets expectations. Potential customers may want to inquire directly with the restaurant about any current specials or promotions. Given the reported inconsistencies, any promotions would ideally be accompanied by assurances of consistent food quality.

In conclusion, Peter Chang Cafe in Glen Allen, VA, appears to be a Chinese restaurant that has garnered both strong praise and significant criticism from its customers. While some patrons rave about the delicious food, excellent service, and cozy atmosphere, regularly enjoying specific dishes, others have experienced issues with food quality, including dryness, poor preparation, and inconsistency. Potential local users should be aware of this mixed feedback. If consistency issues have been addressed, Peter Chang Cafe could be a highly recommended spot, especially for those interested in trying their popular dishes. However, the recent negative experiences suggest that it might be prudent to proceed with caution and perhaps try a smaller order initially to assess the current quality before becoming a regular customer.

These people need a chef. The Kung paw chicken dish. I tried them again today in hope that the reviews would make them better. Dried out chicken and the beef and snow peas were terrible. I don’t mine paying for good food. In the past the dishes were very watered down as we tend to order the same foods and requested not be watered down The chicken was so dry you could barely eat it. Our 4th time trying to get what they use to serve. The last. Go somewhere else and try to do your research. We tried the research thing but it didn’t work either. We have tried on a different day and the food was more descent. Today is Saturday which seems to be a chef problem. Garbage throned away again.

Last time I was here was actually ten years ago. I absolutely love Peter Chang restaurants and have been to many different concepts of his places. I remember loving the food the last time I was here, but definitely wasn’t feeling it this time. I ordered my favorite Peter Change Szechuan style dish – chicken with spicy peppers and onions. It’s normally loaded with amazing flavor and heat. The one I got here for lunch was bland and missing some things. Instead of using sliced dried chilis, they used red pepper flakes (definitely not the same flavor). I’m used to the location in Fredericksburg which uses the cilantro stems and leafs completely differently, thus the flavors imparted are proportional to that. Here, they used both, but applied them at the same time and the leafs were flavorless and cooked down too much. The worse part was that something in the flavor was complete off/missing. This was a bland dish because it was missing just one items, but I can’t really tell what that item was. It missed the smokey umami flavor, so I naturally want to think it missed cumin, but cumin isn’t in this dish. Regardless… I let the server know I wasn’t happy with the dish and he was very pleasant about my input. I’m saddened by this visit and next time I’m in the area and seeking authentic Szechuan flavors, I’ll go elsewhere. But for the majority of Americans, definitely come here, the food is amazing!

This was our first time back in quite a few years, and we went for my birthday. This restaurant is about half the size it used to be, and the menu has cut drastically. We were still able to get our favorite hot and numbing fish and shrimp, but the beef dish that we used to love is no longer on the menu, which was very disappointing. Everything was very good that we had, but still disappointing. And we probably will not go back any time soon, due to the availability of the food we use to really enjoy.

It was lunch time and I ordered this pork wonton in chili oil and I would rate it as 3/5 because it taste like there’s no pork and it’s not really the wanton in chili oil. On the other hand, I also ordered their lunch menu and it was quite a good price like $15 u have a soup, steamed rice and entree of your choice and I enjoyed this Mongolian beef.
