About Peony Kitchen Bellevue

Welcome to Peony Kitchen Bellevue, an upscale Chinese restaurant located at 10317 Main St # 100, Bellevue, WA 98004, USA. As a distinguished Chinese Restaurant in the Bellevue area, Peony Kitchen offers a dining experience that aims to blend authentic Chinese flavors with a sophisticated ambiance. While the cuisine generally stays true to its roots, some dishes are noted to cater to American palates, providing a diverse range of options for diners.

The environment at Peony Kitchen is described as uniquely appealing for a Chinese eatery, suggesting a departure from more traditional décor and a more modern or refined aesthetic. This distinctive vibe makes it a potentially attractive spot for those seeking a more upscale setting for their Chinese dining experience. Convenient parking nearby is also mentioned as a significant advantage, making the restaurant easily accessible for patrons.

One of the featured dishes at Peony Kitchen is the beef ribeye fried rice. However, customer experiences with this particular dish appear to be inconsistent. One reviewer noted a significant variation in quality, having found it exceptional on one occasion but experiencing a hint of sourness in the beef on another visit. This suggests that while the dish has the potential to be outstanding, quality control might be an area to consider for improvement.

Another group of diners opted for a family-style meal, sampling a variety of dishes including the spicy crispy fish fillet, mapo tofu with pork, eggplant with beans, pork soup dumplings, and ribeye steak with rice. This approach allowed them to experience a broader spectrum of Peony Kitchen’s offerings. A notable observation from this meal was that none of the dishes, aside from the ribeye steak with rice, came with rice. This led the reviewer to commend the concept of including a rice dish to accompany the others, highlighting a potential service consideration for those planning to order multiple dishes.

Among the dishes sampled, the mapo tofu with pork received high praise, being described as the best of the lot. Contrary to expectations of spiciness, this rendition was noted to be more on the sweet side, yet the flavor was considered to be very prominent. Both the tofu and the pork in the dish were described as "pretty fantastic," indicating a well-executed version of this classic Sichuan dish.

Surprisingly, the eggplant with green beans also garnered positive feedback, particularly from a reviewer who does not typically enjoy eggplant. The texture of the eggplant, having become soft after cooking, was a key factor in this positive experience, showcasing the kitchen's ability to prepare this often-polarizing vegetable in an appealing way.

However, not all dishes met the same level of satisfaction for this reviewer. The pork soup dumplings were considered "fine" but lacking in soup, a crucial element of authentic Xiao Long Bao. The pork filling was also noted to be unremarkable. The ribeye steak included in the rice was criticized for not tasting well-cooked, being difficult to break apart and generally not very palatable.

The spicy crispy fish fillet had a mixed reception as well. While the spice level and the inside of the fish were liked, the breading was described as light, and the dry nature of the spice made it challenging to eat more than a few pieces, even when paired with rice. This suggests a potential imbalance in the texture and moisture of the dish.

A significant point of feedback was the pricing at Peony Kitchen Bellevue, with most dishes being over $25. The reviewer expressed the opinion that the overall quality did not justify these higher prices, ultimately rating their experience a 6.5/10, indicating a meal that was neither among the best nor the worst Chinese food they had encountered.

In terms of service, one of the initial reviews mentioned that it "could use improvement," noting that this seemed to be a common issue in the area. This suggests that while the ambiance might be appealing, the attentiveness or efficiency of the service might not consistently meet the expectations of an upscale dining experience.

Overall, Peony Kitchen Bellevue offers an upscale setting for Chinese dining with generous portions and a menu that includes both authentic and potentially Americanized dishes. While some dishes, like the mapo tofu and eggplant with beans, received high praise, others, such as the beef ribeye fried rice (due to inconsistency), pork soup dumplings (lack of soup), ribeye steak with rice (poor cooking), and spicy crispy fish fillet (texture issues), garnered more critical feedback. The pricing is on the higher end, which some diners may not feel is justified by the overall quality. The service is also noted as an area that could be improved. For local users seeking a more refined atmosphere for Chinese cuisine in Bellevue and are willing to explore a range of dishes, Peony Kitchen presents an option, but it may be prudent to consider the mixed reviews on specific items.

Peony offers an upscale Chinese dining experience, with prices reflective of the generous portions. The cuisine stays true to its roots, though some dishes cater to American tastes. Beware of the beef ribeye fried rice, though—it's hit or miss. Last time, it was exceptional; this time, the beef had a hint of sourness. The restaurant’s vibe is uniquely appealing for a Chinese eatery, but the service could use improvement, which seems to be common in the area. Convenient parking nearby makes it a spot worth trying.

We ended up eating family-style at this location, having some of the spicy crispy fish fillet, mapo tofu w/ pork, eggplant w/ beans, pork soup dumplings, and ribeye steak with rice The concept of including a rice dish to eat some of the other dishes with was smart because none of the other dishes came with rice I thought the mapo tofu was the best of these. It wasn’t really spicy - definitely more on the sweet side, but I thought the flavor really came through here. Both the tofu and the pork were pretty fantastic as well Surprisingly, I also enjoyed the eggplant and green beans. Normally, I don’t like eggplant, but the fact that it was good here was impressive. I liked how soft it became after cooking I can’t say I liked the other things I had though The soup dumplings were fine, but they were certainly lacking on the soup. The pork wasn’t that great either The ribeye steak included in the rice didn’t taste well cooked at all - it was difficult to break apart and not very good With the spicy & crispy fish fillet - I liked the spice level, and the inside was pretty good, but I thought the breading was light and the spice being a dry spice made it difficult to eat more than a couple, even mixing it with rice. This place is quite expensive - as most of our dishes were over 25 dollars. I don’t think it’s worth that price Overall, definitely not one of the top-tier Chinese food I’ve had, but not the worst either. 6.5/10

We ordered the chicken fried rice, hot and sour soup, orange chicken, sesame balls for dessert, and peony tea. The chicken fried rice was very good and the orange chicken was refreshing and sweet. The hot and sour soup was absolutely delicious. The peony tea wasn't as flavorful as I expected, so I'd try something else. The sesame balls took some time to come out, so I'd suggest ordering that 10 minutes before your done eating. They were lightly sweet, so not for someone with a real sweet tooth. Overall I'd come back for more hands down.

Great food! We got the hot and sour soup, Peking duck, eggplant and green beans, and steamed buns. All were great. The only feedback is that the shrimp on the hot and sour soup was raw on the inside. I ate it anyway. Beautiful, spacious interior with nice lighting. Plenty of parking at night.

Peony’s Kitchen offers a cozy and casual atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed dining experience. We decided to try a variety of dishes to share, and everything was prepared exceptionally well. We sampled both the happy hour menu and the main menu, and were delighted with our choices. The spicy wontons were a standout, bursting with flavor and just the right amount of heat. The pork soup dumplings were equally impressive. We also enjoyed a couple other items like the garlic, crispy chicken, the green beans, and the chow mein.
