About Peking Restaurant

Located at 120 Waller Mill Rd J, Williamsburg, VA 23188, USA, Peking Restaurant serves the local community as a Chinese restaurant offering a buffet-style dining experience. You can contact them at (757) 229-2288 or their mobile number +1 757-229-2288 for inquiries or information about their services.

Based on recent customer feedback, the experience at Peking Restaurant appears to be somewhat mixed. One reviewer expressed a desire to like the establishment but found that it did not meet their expectations for a buffet. This customer described the food as generally bland, with instances of being overly vinegary or excessively spicy. They also noted a perceived lack of a "normal selection" of dishes, suggesting that the buffet might be smaller or offer a different variety than what some patrons might expect from a typical Chinese buffet.

Adding to this critique, the same reviewer mentioned the use of Sterno heaters to keep some of the food warm. This method was described as "odd" and raised concerns about food safety in the reviewer's opinion. While Sterno is a common method for maintaining food temperature in buffet settings, its prominence might have been noticeable at Peking Restaurant. The reviewer concluded that while the restaurant had potential, they would not be returning based on their experience.

Another customer offered a slightly different perspective, commenting on the "flare" of the place as "really interesting" and noted that the staff they interacted with during a takeout order were "nice enough." This suggests that the ambiance or decor of the restaurant might have some appealing aspects. However, this reviewer also described the food as "your typical buffet of this type," implying a standard quality that might not particularly stand out. They also mentioned visiting between lunch and dinner service, which led to the food looking and tasting like it had been sitting for a while. This suggests that the freshness and quality of the food might vary depending on the time of day and potentially the peak service hours.

The limited information available in the reviews does not provide extensive details about the overall environment of Peking Restaurant beyond the "interesting flare" mentioned by one customer. Similarly, specific services beyond the buffet for dine-in and the availability of takeout are not detailed. It's reasonable to assume that as a Chinese restaurant with a buffet, they likely offer standard services associated with this format, such as self-service from the buffet line and table service for drink orders and potentially bill payment. However, specifics regarding the seating capacity, decor style, or any additional amenities are not mentioned in the provided feedback.

In terms of features, the buffet style itself is a primary feature of Peking Restaurant. Buffets typically offer a wide variety of dishes available for a fixed price, allowing customers to sample different items and eat at their own pace. However, the reviews suggest that the selection at Peking Restaurant might be smaller than some expect, and the quality can be inconsistent, potentially depending on the time of day. The use of Sterno heaters for maintaining food temperature is another notable aspect, although it raised concerns for at least one customer.

Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. It is unknown if Peking Restaurant offers any lunch specials, senior discounts, or other promotions that might attract customers. For information regarding any current deals or special offers, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly at the provided phone numbers.

In conclusion, Peking Restaurant in Williamsburg, VA, offers a Chinese buffet experience with dine-in and takeout options. Customer reviews present a mixed picture, with some noting a limited selection and issues with food quality such as blandness, excessive vinegar or spice, and concerns about freshness during off-peak hours. The use of Sterno heaters for keeping food warm was also highlighted. On a more positive note, the restaurant's decor was described as "interesting," and the staff encountered during a takeout order were considered nice. Potential customers might want to consider visiting during peak hours to experience fresher food and be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food quality and selection. For any information on current promotions or specific menu details, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

This is a hard one. I wanted to like this place, but the just doesn't come close to what a buffet like this should be. The food is bland, very vinegary, or very spicy. They don't have what I would call a normal selection. It's very small. Some of the food is kept warm by Sterno heaters. That's odd and raised a question of food safety. They could fix this. I think it could be a great restaurant but we won't be back.

The flare of the place is really interesting and the staff was nice enough. I only say nice because I was doing a take out. The food was your typical buffet of this type, but I will have to come back during a peak time to see what it’s like when fresh. I went inbetween lunch & dinner so the food looked and tasted like it had been sitting a little too long.

Order take out here for my family while in town on vacation. Ordered around 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday. Love that they had an easy to use online ordering system. Showed up when they said to and food came out promptly piping hot. Service at the front desk was helpful. Portion sizes were huge and a great value for the money. Was also impressed with the size of the restaurant and how packed it was. Obviously speaks to a good business. Would order again.

PEKING RESTAURANT Yelp, which is typically more critical than the Google Maps Crowd, had ratings all over the place - and that's how I feel too - 2.5 if I could, so 3 to be fair GOOD: Friendly hostess, good NON Chinese dishes, decor is festive and fun, and sushi was good BAD: Restaurant organization, non-present Mongolian/noodle cook, the Chinese dishes were below the quality of 16/person IMP: 16.00 for dinner person (no soda). General per pound take out was 7.99/lb Good news first - I was hoping this strip mall find would surprise to the upside. It did have positives. The fun ornamental layout was cool, the hostess was very nice and dishes like Korean beef, Thai rice and Mac n cheese with bacon were good. But if Iam eating these items, it because the traditional Chinese food was flat. The Bad news - sauce central (as I call it) was not to be found. Typically, all the sauces are all together in large quantities. They had some sauces all over and many were packets - lost time. The sushi, though good, was served via some weird conveyor belt style - two pieces per tiny plates. It felt like a dessert factory taken over by sushi - a clunky set up even the employee seemed unsure about (take the baby plates or just the sushi off them). The biggest negative was the Chinese food quality - flat, dry, or often the reverse - a meat dish floating in sauce. I would pass. At 13.99 I would be more generous but the quality is not there.
