About Peking Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of San Francisco at 1375 Noriega Street, Peking Restaurant offers a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine to local residents and visitors alike. As a Chinese Restaurant, Peking Restaurant falls under a category known for providing a diverse range of dishes, reflecting the rich culinary traditions of China. This establishment caters to those seeking familiar comfort foods and flavorful specialties, making it a noteworthy option for anyone craving Chinese flavors in the area.
Based on recent customer feedback, Peking Restaurant presents itself as a "mom and pop place" with a focus on delivering satisfying comfort foods. While the ambiance may be described as needing some updates, with one reviewer noting "very dirty carpets," the presence of "a bunch of flowers around" suggests an effort to create a more welcoming atmosphere. The decor seems to be an area where improvements could enhance the overall dining experience.
The menu at Peking Restaurant appears to feature a selection of popular Chinese dishes, with several items receiving positive mentions. The Hot N sour soup is highlighted as having "very good flavor," suggesting a well-balanced and satisfying rendition of this classic soup. Dumplings are also noted as being "good," indicating a solid preparation of this staple dish. For those seeking something a bit different, the Wasabi cold noodles are praised for their "great flavor," offering a unique and potentially refreshing option. The Eggplants are described as "yummy" but also "greasy," which might be a consideration for some diners. Finally, the Tan tan noodles are recognized as "very good," pointing to another flavorful and well-received noodle dish on their menu.
In addition to these specific dishes, Peking Restaurant also offers familiar options like the sweet and sour pork rice plate, which one customer ordered for takeout. This dish was described as having crispy pork and a "a bit sweet but good" sauce, accompanied by a complimentary sweet and sour soup, a thoughtful addition to the takeout order. The reviewer did mention a desire for more rice relative to the amount of meat and vegetables, which could be something to consider when ordering this particular dish.
While the food seems to be a strong point for Peking Restaurant, the service experience, at least during busy periods, appears to be an area for potential improvement. One reviewer recounted a significant delay in receiving their food, attributing it to the restaurant being busy with "too many to go orders" on what was possibly Chinese New Year's Eve. The counter staff did apologize for the delay, indicating an awareness of the issue. Furthermore, the same customer experienced difficulties in receiving their beer order, requiring "about 5 friendly reminders" before it was finally served, despite multiple acknowledgments from both the waiter and the counter staff. This suggests that during peak times, the service might become less attentive or efficient.
A pleasant surprise for one customer was the complimentary sesame dumplings offered as dessert, which were described as "surprisingly good." This small gesture of hospitality can often leave a positive lasting impression on diners.
In terms of pricing, one customer found their sweet and sour pork rice plate to be "a bit expensive" at $15.40. This suggests that Peking Restaurant might be positioned at a slightly higher price point compared to some other local Chinese eateries. However, the inclusion of a complimentary soup with the takeout order could be seen as adding value.
Overall, based on the available customer feedback, Peking Restaurant offers solid and flavorful Chinese comfort food. Dishes like the Hot N sour soup, Wasabi cold noodles, and Tan tan noodles seem to be particularly well-received. While the decor may benefit from some updates, the food quality appears to be a primary draw. Potential customers should be aware that service might be slower during busy times, particularly when the restaurant is handling a large volume of takeout orders. Despite this, the positive comments on the food and the occasional thoughtful gestures like complimentary desserts suggest that Peking Restaurant can provide a satisfying Chinese dining experience for those in the Noriega Street area of San Francisco. If you are looking for a local Chinese restaurant offering a range of classic dishes, Peking Restaurant is worth considering, keeping in mind the mixed feedback regarding service speed during peak hours and the slightly higher price point.

Mom and pop place with some good comfort foods Hot N sour soup - Very good flavor. Dumplings - good Wasabi cold noodles- great flavor Eggplants- yummy but greasy Tan tan noodles - very good Service is slow. Maybe because of CNY eve. Our food took awhile to come out. The lady at the counter did apologize and said they are busy with too many to go orders. We also ordered beers but it never came. We asked the waiter and the lady at the counter multiple times. They acknowledged but forgot as soon as they walked away from our table. It took about 5 friendly reminders before we got to enjoy our beers. The complimentary sesame dumplings desserts were surprisingly good.
TLDR: solid food at slightly higher prices, decor needs a bit fixing up We got our sweet and sour pork rice plate to go and the total came out to $15.40 which is a bit expensive. They included a sweet and sour soup which was nice. The pork was crispy and the sauce a bit sweet but good. Weirdly I wanted more rice as there was sufficient meat and veg. The interior needs some work with very dirty carpets but there were a bunch of flowers around which brightened it up a bit
Authentic Chinese food. Southeastern style although its name is Peking Restaurant. Service is super good! Worth every penny you paid.
Read about this restaurant in a SF gate article. I am a very recent customer and have been 4 times now. The service is great! The food is delicious! We live nearly 50 miles away but the meal is always worth the drive. Love the mushu and the crab & asparagus soup. Yes the restaurant hasn't changed its decor since it opened some 50 years ago. My favorite Chinese restaurant period.
Went here for lunch. The place is quaint, unassuming, and if it weren't for the awning and sign above it, it'd be easy to miss. The menu is huge with a big selection of quite interesting dishes based on different meats: beef, lamb, pork, fish and other seafood, as well as vegetarian options. Service was good with complimentary hot tea. Had the mango beef as well as some dumplings and pot stickers; the appetizers were good, and the mango beef was excellent. I went here around noon, but the place was nearly empty with only one other table being occupied. Good variety of condiments at the table as well: salt, garlic powder, vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil; however, the jars were all quite sticky to the touch and this sticks to your fingers.
