About PEKING

PEKING is a Chinese restaurant located at 22 Towne Centre Wy in Hampton, Virginia, placing it within the local Chinese Restaurant category. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of PEKING based on the available customer reviews, encompassing aspects such as the environment, services, and the quality of their food. It is important to note that the feedback received is varied, presenting a spectrum of experiences from different patrons.

One reviewer's initial comment focused on the cleanliness of the establishment, stating, "The place was clean—that’s the nicest thing I can say." This suggests that PEKING maintains a certain level of hygiene, which is a fundamental aspect of any dining environment. However, this was followed by a strong negative sentiment regarding the overall experience, with the reviewer stating they "wouldn’t eat here again if it was free." This indicates a significant level of dissatisfaction with other aspects of their visit.

This same reviewer also highlighted an issue with the menu description versus what was offered. They mentioned that the menu stated "white rice," but the server indicated it was "yellow." This discrepancy in information could lead to confusion and frustration for customers. The subsequent offer to make fried rice white after the customer declined the yellow rice presents an inconsistency that might be perplexing to diners.

Another highly critical review described several dishes in a negative light. The shrimp were likened in size to catfish, described as "flatten," and deemed a "Yuck." This vivid imagery suggests a significant issue with the quality or preparation of the shrimp. The reviewer further stated that "Everything was so bad we only tried one thing we ordered," indicating a widespread dissatisfaction with the food. Suspicion was cast on the appearance of the skewers ("definitely not normal"), and the egg rolls were found to contain a minimal amount of shrimp ("one shrimp...like a sad game of hide and seek"), implying a lack of substantial filling.

Perhaps the most striking negative feedback came regarding the chicken, which the reviewer claimed was so unappetizing that "Even our dogs sniffed it and ran the other way. Not joking." This extreme reaction suggests a severe problem with the quality, smell, or appearance of the chicken dish. This reviewer concluded by stating that they spent $45 on food that was ultimately thrown away and vowed never to return, promising to share their negative experience widely. This paints a picture of a deeply unsatisfactory dining experience.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced perspective, as another customer reported a significantly different and positive experience. This reviewer stated, "This is my first time here, I ordered the L19. Egg Foo Young and 7. Crab Rangoons (8). Both dishes were wonderful." This directly contradicts the overwhelmingly negative feedback from the previous reviewer, indicating a potential inconsistency in food quality or preparation, or perhaps differing tastes and expectations among customers.

The positive reviewer also provided specific details about their meal. They noted that the lunch dish (Egg Foo Young) came with a choice of soup or a can of soda and a choice of rice, indicating the presence of lunch specials or combination meals. The egg drop soup was described as "light in flavor with a hint of sesame oil," suggesting a delicate and perhaps subtly flavored broth. Importantly, this reviewer stated that "Nothing was greasy," and that both the egg foo young and the crab rangoon were "lightly fried" with "nicely flavored" sauces. Based on this experience, the reviewer concluded that they would "definitely come back here again," a stark contrast to the previous reviewer's vow to never return.

In summary, the customer reviews for PEKING Chinese Restaurant in Hampton, VA, present a mixed picture. While one reviewer found the establishment clean, their overall experience was extremely negative, citing issues with menu accuracy, the quality and preparation of shrimp and chicken, and the filling of the egg rolls. Another reviewer had a positive first-time experience, praising the Egg Foo Young and Crab Rangoons, noting the lack of greasiness and the flavorful sauces. This stark contrast suggests potential inconsistencies in food quality or service, or significant differences in individual preferences.

For local users in Hampton, Virginia, considering PEKING Chinese Restaurant, it is advisable to weigh these contrasting experiences. If you are looking for a potentially clean environment and are interested in trying dishes like Egg Foo Young or Crab Rangoons, based on one positive review, you might find it satisfactory. However, the strongly negative feedback regarding other dishes, such as the shrimp and chicken, and inconsistencies in menu information should also be taken into consideration. As there is no information provided about the restaurant's ambiance beyond cleanliness, specific services like delivery, or any promotional offers, it would be prudent to perhaps try a few specific items based on the positive review or to gather more recent feedback before making a decision. Contacting PEKING directly at (757) 826-4333 or +1 757-826-4333 might provide further insight into their current offerings and service standards. Given the wide range of experiences reported, proceeding with caution and perhaps starting with the positively reviewed dishes might be a prudent approach for local diners.

The place was clean—that’s the nicest thing I can say. I wouldn’t eat here again if it was free. The menu said white rice, but the lady said it’s yellow. Then when I said, “never mind,” she suddenly offered to make the fried rice white. Huh? I thought I ordered catfish because that is how big the … flatten shrimp where. Yuck. Everything was so bad we only tried one thing we ordered. The skewers looked suspicious (definitely not normal), and we found one shrimp in the eggrolls—like a sad game of hide and seek. The chicken? Even our dogs sniffed it and ran the other way. Not joking. We dropped $45 on food that went straight to the trash. Never again. Definitely writing reviews everywhere so others don’t make the same mistake. You want honest there it is. C.N.B

This is my first time here, I ordered the L19. Egg Foo Young and 7. Crab Rangoons (8). Both dishes were wonderful. The lunch dish also came with choice of soup or can soda and choice of rice. The egg drop soup was light in flavor with a hint of sesame oil. Nothing was greasy, the egg foo young was lightly fried and so was the crab rangoon and the sauces were nicely flavored. I will definitely come back here again

We ordered the pu pu platter (which is supposed to serve two people) thru DoorDash. First off, it only contains 2 of each item. The spring rolls were flavorless, one could break a tooth on the pancake flat supposed teriyaki chicken, the so-called shrimp were really fish sticks, the ribs were mainly bone, and the given Crab Rangoon were only cream cheese wontons. Even the fried chicken wings were tough. The only good thing about the meal was the ridiculous amount of sauce we received.

My family loves this restaurant! The sushi is fresh, flavorful and offers more choices than I expected. The baked egg custard in fillo is delectable. Do I love everything there? No!! But do you expect to at a buffet?? For the price and place, it is an excellent restaurant. My family leaves full and happy, and everyone gets what they want.
