About Peking Express
Located at 5214 Arlington Ave in Riverside, California, Peking Express operates within the Chinese Restaurant platform category, which typically includes establishments offering a variety of Chinese culinary dishes for local consumers. These restaurants can range from fast-food style to more traditional sit-down experiences, catering to diverse preferences for flavor, speed, and dining atmosphere. Peking Express, based on recent customer feedback, appears to be facing significant challenges in meeting customer expectations.
Typically, a Chinese restaurant aims to provide flavorful dishes that represent the diverse culinary traditions of China, often adapted to local tastes. Key aspects include the quality of ingredients, the skill in preparation, the portion sizes offered for the price, and the overall dining experience, including service and environment. However, the recent reviews for Peking Express indicate a considerable deviation from these expected standards.
The available customer reviews for Peking Express paint a starkly negative picture. One reviewer summarized their experience with a concise list of severe criticisms: "No flavor," "Portions are horrible," and "People working there were skecty." This initial feedback immediately raises significant concerns about the fundamental aspects of a restaurant – the taste and quantity of its food, as well as the perceived professionalism and trustworthiness of its staff.
This same reviewer went on to describe specific dishes in detail, further highlighting their disappointment. They stated that the "orange chicken didn't taste or look like orange chicken," a dish that is typically a popular and recognizable staple in American-Chinese cuisine, known for its sweet and tangy citrus flavor and often crispy texture. Similarly, they found the "jalapeño chicken" to have "no flavor" despite being one of the two pieces of chicken they claimed were included in their order. This again points to a significant issue with the preparation and seasoning of their food.
The reviewer's criticism extended to the chow mein, another common Chinese noodle dish, which they described as so unrecognizable that they didn't even know what it was. This suggests a severe departure from the expected quality and preparation of a standard menu item. The review concluded with a strong and unequivocal statement: "NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN.!!" This level of negative sentiment indicates a profoundly unsatisfactory dining experience.
The second review echoes the extreme disappointment and even suggests a potential decline in the restaurant's standards over time. This reviewer began by asking, "Are they under new ownership?" indicating a perceived change in the restaurant's quality compared to past experiences. They mentioned having been a customer of this establishment for "over a decade" and recalled a time when it "was great." This long-term perspective underscores the depth of their current dissatisfaction.
This reviewer's recent experience involved food that was described as "cooked while I waited," which might suggest an attempt at freshness but ultimately resulted in poor quality. The food was labeled as "bland," reiterating the flavorless issue raised by the first reviewer. Specific details included "fried rice includ burn corn?" which points to a lack of attention to detail in the cooking process and potentially burnt or low-quality ingredients. The portion size issue was again highlighted, with the reviewer stating they received "two pieces of chicken smaller than a penny." This extreme description emphasizes the severely inadequate quantity of the protein in their meal, especially considering the expectation in most Chinese entrees.
The second reviewer concluded with a sense of sadness and finality, stating, "It’s sad that a once favorite place, is now a place I will never ever eat at again. Gross." This emotional response further underscores the depth of their disappointment and the significant decline they perceived in the restaurant's quality.
Based on these overwhelmingly negative reviews, it is challenging to ascertain positive aspects regarding the environment, services, or features of Peking Express. The focus of the feedback is almost entirely on the poor quality of the food and the inadequate portion sizes. There are no mentions of the restaurant's ambiance, cleanliness, or the friendliness of the staff, except for the first reviewer's comment about "sketchy" employees, which adds another layer of concern.
Given the lack of positive feedback and the strong negative sentiments expressed, it is difficult to objectively describe the environment or services. One might infer that the environment is likely basic and functional, as the focus of the reviews is solely on the food and service issues. Similarly, the services are likely limited to order taking and food preparation, with the quality of these services being called into question by the customers' experiences.
The features of Peking Express would typically include a menu of standard American-Chinese dishes. However, the negative reviews suggest that the execution of these dishes is severely lacking, with complaints about flavor, quality of ingredients (e.g., burnt corn), and drastically reduced portion sizes. The fact that a long-time customer perceived a significant decline suggests a potential change in management, ingredients, or cooking practices that has negatively impacted the food quality.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Given the current negative feedback, it is unlikely that the restaurant is running any successful promotions that would entice new customers or retain existing ones. Any potential promotions would need to be evaluated in the context of the reported issues with food quality and portion sizes.
In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for Peking Express at 5214 Arlington Ave in Riverside, CA, are overwhelmingly negative, citing a lack of flavor in multiple dishes, severely inadequate portion sizes, and even concerns about the staff. A long-time customer reported a significant decline in quality over time, with issues such as bland food, burnt ingredients, and minuscule portions. The orange chicken and jalapeño chicken were specifically criticized for not meeting expected standards, and even the chow mein was unrecognizable. These reviews collectively paint a picture of a restaurant that is currently failing to meet basic expectations for a Chinese dining experience. Local users are strongly advised to exercise caution and consider these recent experiences before deciding to dine at Peking Express. It would be prudent to look for alternative Chinese restaurants in the Riverside area that have received more positive and consistent feedback regarding their food quality and service.

No flavor Portions are horrible People working there were skecty Orange chicken didn't taste or look like orange chicken. Jalapeño chicken same thing no flavor for the two pieces of chicken they did put in there. Chow Mein I don't even know what that was. NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN.!!
Are they under new ownership? I’ve been going to this place for over a decade and it was great. Tonight the food was “cooked while I waited”. It was bland, fried rice included burn corn? And two pieces of chicken smaller than a penny. It’s sad that a once favorite place, is now a place I will never ever eat at again. Gross.
Do not waste your time or money! Without a doubt the worst Chinese food I have ever had. It was cooked while you wait big deal. It was colorless, bland and every entree we ordered had little tiny pieces of meat and the rest were vegetables. One of the side containers was literally half empty 3 pieces of chicken and the rest of it was sliced jalapeños. The other dish was supposed to be kung pao chicken. It was full of zucchini? I have never had it this way. No chilis or peanuts and just awful. Nothing has color or flavor! I don’t see this place lasting long with this kind of food. I’m guessing with the good reviews it must have been under the previous owner.
I have NO CLUE what happened to this place. But the orange chicken was red and did not taste good and definitely didn't taste like orange chicken. For some reason all the chicken had these little strings.(As pictured) The noodles very bland. The rice was okay no flavor.
I ordered orange chicken and got some tiny bits of crunch chicken or could have even been port it was red and nothing like the photos. Beef broccoli had 2 different color meats and was very cold like fridge cold and the noodles are very blan taste like nothing and are only tan in color compared to regular brown chowmein Very upset since I had to order on uber eats and was super hungry.
