About Peking Duck House
Welcome to Peking Duck House, a Chinese Restaurant located at 236 E 53rd St, New York, NY 10022, USA. As a Chinese Restaurant in Midtown East, Peking Duck House is particularly known for its signature Peking duck. You can contact them at (212) 759-8260 or +1 212-759-8260.
Based on customer reviews, the experience at Peking Duck House appears to be varied. One reviewer who attended a work dinner with a pre-set banquet menu reported a largely negative experience. They described several appetizers as overcooked or mediocre, the seafood soup as bland, and most of the entrees, except for the Filet Mignon with Black Pepper, as either overcooked, bland, or drowning in mayonnaise. The Peking duck, the supposed highlight, was criticized for being a laughably small portion, pre-cut and wrapped by the staff (contrary to the reviewer's preference for self-assembly), resulting in only one small, scallion-filled wrap per person with minimal meat and no additional duck served.
In stark contrast, another customer raved about their experience, describing it as the most amazing Chinese meal they had ever had. They highly praised the Peking duck as absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. This positive review also highlighted other dishes such as hot and sour soup, spring rolls, beef and broccoli, and garlic shrimp, noting outstanding portion sizes, flavor, and fresh ingredients. The service was commended as top-notch, with table-side carving of the duck and hand-rolled pancakes, and the staff demonstrating pride and care in their work.
The environment seems to cater to large groups, including work dinners. A notable feature mentioned in the positive review is the table-side carving of the Peking duck and the hand-rolling of the duck pancakes, suggesting a level of service and presentation for this signature dish.
In summary, Peking Duck House seems to have a reputation, particularly for its Peking duck, which receives glowing reviews from some customers. However, experiences with pre-set banquet menus may differ significantly. If you are planning to visit, it might be advisable to focus on ordering individual dishes, especially the Peking duck, and inquire about the preparation and serving style beforehand. No specific promotional information was available in the provided reviews.

Came here for a work dinner, as it seems many people do, as we were surrounded by other white-collar types in large groups. Our team's admin booked one of the banquet pre-set menus, which included: Appetizers: - Lute Shaped Prawns: Overcooked and chewy - Fried Pork Dumplings: Meh - Seafood Basket: Tasty and crispy Soup: - Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup: Bland with little seafood Entrees: - Filet Mignon with Black Pepper: The only decent entree of the lot - Lobster with Hot Spicy Sauce: It wasn't spicy, it was ginger-scallion. And again, overcooked - Grand Marnier Prawns: Fried and drowning in mayo. Ugh! - Chinese Broccoli with Black Mushroom: Okay, but forgettable - Scallops: Bland - Yang Chow Fried Rice: Also bland Dessert: - Fried Banana with Ice-Cream: This needed a good drizzle of chocolate sauce and more ice-cream to make it really pop I saved the worst for last. The Peking Duck, which of course was the whole reason we were there, was a laughably tiny little piece of fowl. Unlike decent Peking duck restaurants, PDH cuts and wraps the duck for you instead of letting you do it yourself. Thus, I was given a scallion-filled wrap that I would never have eaten, and had to dis-robe it to remove that filth. Because our duck was so tiny (and we apparently only got one), we only received one wrap each, containing the tiniest pieces of meat I've ever seen. There was no additional platter with remaining duck pieces for us to have seconds--nothing. What an absolute rip-off. In sum, glad I didn't pay for dinner here. No one should be recommending this place for Peking duck to anyone except maybe terrible bosses, meddling mothers-in-law or mortal enemies.
We LOVED our experience and highly recommend. We were blown away with the most amazing Chinese meal we’ve ever experienced. First, the wine we picked was well priced at $40/bottle and awesome—but that’s not the star of the show, obviously… the Peking duck was insane. Wow!! It was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We also ordered hot and sour soup, spring rolls, beef/broccoli, and garlic shrimp. Every dish was wonderful. Outstanding portion sizes and flavor and fresh ingredients. The service was top notch as they carved our duck table side and hand rolled our duck pancakes! Everybody demonstrated pride in their work—you could tell that they care that you enjoy your experience and that they love what they do. I called four people from the table and told them we have to go here. Five stars! Can’t wait to go back!
Really authentic Peking Duck. I have been to Beijing (aka Peking) 20 times and get as much of that duck as I can, each visit! Carved tableside, served with thin pancakes, hoisin, cukes, and spring onions. I recommend putting a little sugar on a plate (from sugar packets on your table) and dipping pieces of the skin in and eating them. Perfect combination of sweet and savory.
Nothing special but, it was a decent Chinese food. 4 stars Only because I wish they had of brought the fried banana and the ice cream together as it’s good to eat together.
We have a Peking Duck Christmas Eve tradition, and this year the first time we’ve been to Peking Duck House in Midtown. We thought that since the location was in Midtown, the menu and ambiance would be more elevated than it’s Chinatown location. Unfortunately, it was just more bland. Hot and Sour Soup was neither hot nor sour. The duck was good, but a little greasy. Fried Rice and Chinese Broccoli dishes were just okay. Service was slow and abrupt, so we either were looking around for someone or feeling rushed out. In the end, this place still feels like it should be in Chinatown, and if it were, it would probably be more tasty.
