About Peking Cook

Peking Cook is a Chinese restaurant located at 2 Pennsylvania Ave in Wellston, OH 45692, USA. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Peking Cook aims to provide Chinese cuisine to the Wellston community. They can be contacted at (740) 384-5288 or their mobile number +1 740-384-5288 for inquiries or to place orders.

Based on customer reviews, the environment of Peking Cook is described by one reviewer as having a "diner atmosphere...a little 'hole-in-the-wall' place to eat." This suggests a casual and unpretentious setting, likely prioritizing functionality over elaborate decor. It might appeal to those seeking a no-frills dining experience. However, another reviewer's negative experience did not provide any insight into the restaurant's ambiance.

The services offered by Peking Cook include dine-in, takeout (carry-out), and phone orders. One reviewer who has been a customer for years mentioned enjoying the buffet, indicating that a buffet option is available. This could be a significant feature for customers looking for variety and self-service. The same reviewer also noted that Peking Cook is "great for a night-in meal," highlighting their takeout service. However, another customer had a very negative experience when placing a pickup order over the phone, describing the person taking the order as uncommunicative and unprofessional, failing to ask for essential details like name, number, or price, and abruptly hanging up.

Customer feedback on the food quality and overall experience at Peking Cook is sharply divided. One long-time customer praised the "great food and service," even suggesting that the quality could rival that of larger-scale Chinese restaurants. They specifically mentioned the buffet as a positive aspect. This positive review indicates that Peking Cook has the potential to provide a satisfying dining experience.

However, another, more recent review paints a drastically different picture. This customer described their very first experience as "not a good experience for us." They reported that their takeout order of fried rice and sesame chicken was of extremely poor quality. The fried rice was described as looking like "almost white rice with onion, little slices of chicken, peas, and carrots," lacking the appearance and presumably the flavor of traditional fried rice. The taste was described as "very bland plain taste, not good at all," with some of the rice being mushy and some still hard. The sesame chicken was likened to "mush balls clumped together with a stale brown sauce over it," deemed unappetizing in appearance and reportedly "mushy" and "almost slimey inside." This reviewer stated that neither they nor their children could eat the food, resulting in the entire $46 order being thrown away. They concluded that it was "hands down the worst Chinese food we have ever had in our life," criticizing the taste, smell, and the entire ordering process.

Given these strongly contrasting reviews, it is difficult to identify consistent features of Peking Cook. While the buffet and potentially some dishes may be well-received by some long-term customers, there is also a significant risk of experiencing very poor food quality and unprofessional service, as detailed in the negative review. The inconsistency in customer experiences is a crucial point for potential local users to consider.

There is no promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. Therefore, it is not possible to comment on any current specials, discounts, or other promotional offers that Peking Cook might be running. To obtain information about any such offers, it would be necessary to contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, Peking Cook in Wellston, OH, is a Chinese restaurant that offers dine-in (including a buffet), takeout, and phone order services. While one long-time customer praised the "great food and service" and enjoyed the buffet, a very recent first-time customer reported an overwhelmingly negative experience with rude phone ordering and extremely poor food quality, describing dishes as inedible and a complete waste of money. The environment is described as a casual "diner atmosphere." Potential local users should be aware of these starkly contrasting experiences when considering Peking Cook. The inconsistency in quality and service appears to be a significant factor. It might be prudent to seek more recent reviews or local recommendations before deciding to patronize this establishment. To inquire about their menu, buffet availability, and any potential promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

Great food and service. The atmosphere is a diner atmosphere...a little "hole-in-the-wall" place to eat. But I would put Johnny's food up to any big-scale Chinese food restaurant. I've eaten there for years, and I love the buffet. They also do phone orders and carry-out. Great for a night-in meal.

We usually do not do reviews, like ever. Thought this one needed it. Heard a few people refer this place, then we read the reviews. Very first time we had this Chinese. Wow, It was not a good experience for us. I called to place a pickup order and after everything I said to order all the person said was OK, it was a simple order. Few fried rice and sesame chicken. Person would say OK after each item I said and then when I said that should be all, they said Ok again and hung up on me. Did not ask for a name, number, did not tell me a price, nothing just hung up. I just chalked it up as they was busy. So we get there a little while later to pick up food. We get the bag in the truck to go home and it did not even smell good. I even said the smell of this is making my stomach turn. I chose the bag and says maybe it's just me and my smell is off or something. We get home and start dishing out the rice. It didn't look fried at all, almost white rice with onion, little slices of chicken, peas, and carrots. I took the first bite and I said never again. My husband opened his chicken and it does not look like sesame seed chicken we have ever had. It was like mush balls clumped together with a stale brown sauce over it, didn't look normal at all. I wouldn't even try it just from the look, and I always share the chicken with my husband. We have several children and I didn't say anything. I only poured a little bit in my bowl and barely gagged it down. Some of the rice w as mushy and some was still hard a little, very bland plain taste, not good at all. I still didn't say anything. My husband started picking through the chicken and he said idk what this is, but it is not sesame seed chicken. It's very mushy balls of something and almost slimey inside. He took a few bites and said I can't do it. I said neither can I, I couldn't finish the little bit of rice I had , I almost threw up. Not one of the kids would eat it either. All of their bowls was left full and only 1 or 2 bites out of them. My husband goes the other Chinese place we go to we never have left overs hardly and there was still 1.5 boxes left if rice and every bowl was full. We threw the entire order in the trash. We are not spiteful people, we never leave reviews because we wouldn't want the same for our business. But this was so bad it couldn't be left without one. Hands down it was the worst Chinese food we have ever had in our life. We could not even eat it and threw it all away. Waste of $46 . The taste, smell, ordering, nothing about this was a good experience for us. We have eaten a lot of different Chinese places and it was the worst one by far. We have never had to throw away almost $50 worth of food and not been able to eat it. We do not know if the people leaving all of these reviews have never eaten any other Chinese or left that county , we have no idea where the good reviews are coming from our how anyone could thing they are even edible. Sorry we had to leave this review but we had to let people know this is the worst Chinese food we have ever had. We will never return nor refer. We will go else where and spend the little extra money for edible rice. We wish you luck.

The food was really good and at great price!! We went in a group of 10 people and that too almost near the end of their lunch service hours, yet the owners were generous enough to cook up fresh batches of food again for us. We were all so hungry and enjoyed the food so much that we forgot to take more and better photos

I was prepared for a great Chinese meal. The reviews were very good. I was so disappointed. I had the buffet. Sorry but I can’t recommend. The food was lukewarm and honestly not very good. Not much to choose from.

Don't judge a book by its cover. This is some of the best Chinese food we've ever had. They put onions in the crab rangoons and it just adds another level of flavor and texture I never knew was missing! The noodles are also some of the best. One more best I must mention... The price! We no longer live in Wellston, but we do like to stop by when we visit.
