About Pearl Yorkville Chinese Cuisine

Pearl Yorkville Chinese Cuisine presents itself as a Chinese Restaurant with a more refined dining atmosphere compared to some of its counterparts in the area. Located in Toronto's Yorkville neighborhood, it offers a comfortable setting with nice decor and attentive servers, aiming for a more upscale experience.

A standout item frequently mentioned in reviews is their "Hockey Pucks," described as a classic and fantastic friend dumpling. During lunch service, many items are priced affordably between $8 and $12. Some other dumpling options, like the chive and shrimp, have also been well-received. However, opinions on other dishes vary. The hargaw was noted as good, while the fried garlic and shrimp was considered decent but a little heavy and served with mayo. One diner found the shrimp dumpling wrappers to be "a little off" – too sticky and not sufficiently chewy or elastic – and the sweet and sour pork to be somewhat dry and hard.

While the portion sizes were deemed good for the price paid (around $55 for five dishes split between three people, after tax and tip), one reviewer questioned the overall value in relation to the food quality, despite appreciating the ambiance and service. Another lunch visitor found the prices reasonable for the quality and attentiveness of the staff, particularly enjoying the lunch specials. They did wish for more chili oil, indicating it's available upon request.

In summary, Pearl Yorkville Chinese Cuisine offers a more upscale dining environment and attentive service, with their "Hockey Pucks" being a highly recommended dish. While some other menu items receive positive feedback, there are mixed reviews regarding the quality of certain dishes like the shrimp dumplings and sweet and sour pork. If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant in Yorkville with a nicer ambiance and are interested in trying their praised "Hockey Pucks," this could be an option, keeping in mind the varied experiences reported by other diners.

Swung by for lunch and it really hit the spot. All items during lunch were either 8/10/12 bucks each and every item was fantastic. Hockey Pucks are the classic go-to, stand out friend dumpling. We also had hargaw which was good, the fried garlic and shrimp which was decent and a little heavy and comes with mayo, the chive and shrimp which were great. All in all we had about 9-10 dumplings each and paid about $30 which felt like a pretty good deal given the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. Had to ask for an additional serving of chili oil — I’d only wish we had more of that. Other than that, this is a solid spot that is a step up in decor and ambiance from Shang Ji across the street — but let’s be honest there is a proportionality to how low key and hole-in-the-wall Shang Ji feels to how much (even more) superior their soup dumplings are. When you can’t go there because you’re rolling with folks who have dietary and vibe restrictions, this is the spot!

Very nice dining atmosphere with nice, attentive servers, however I was disappointed by the food. The shrimp dumpling wrappers were a little off (too sticky and not chewy/elastic-y) and the sweet and sour pork was a little dry and hard. Rice and fried calamari were ok and the hockey pucks were the stand out of the meal. Paid around $55 after tip and tax for 5 dishes split between three people. The amount of food was good but I don’t think its worth it for the quality.

There’s the lack of similar Chinese restaurant in the downtown core . We know it over priced compare to other similar one in Richmond Hill / Markham area but that’s the price you pay downtown .The atmosphere inside for sure is cozy and comfortable . Do not be seated in one of the table in the front area, the 3/4 tables there are drafty and just not as nice as inside . The food is really hit and miss, we have been here at least 7/8 times since it open. The most recent visit was the most disappointing with the food. The radish has no taste when it’s supposed to be stewed with the beef briskets. Order the hockey pucks , that’s the most consistent and delicious .

We ordered deep fried egg plant, shrimp dumplings, and siu mai. Unfortunately we learned that we missed the dim sum time at 11:00am-3:45pm (also cheaper price at this time) so there was only a limited selection. The deep fried egg plant is absolutely one of the best we've ever had...crispy, plump and juicy...comes with a gravy sauce on the side. The shrimp dumplings and siu mai were also very good...fresh, plump. Everything was tasty and service was good. A bit pricey but we enjoyed the overall experience. Updating this to recommend the beef rice roll which is also one of the best we've had..thr fried taro with scallop and meat is also one of the best we've had..but oooohhh that fried eggplant keeps us coming back lol!
