About Pearl River Restaurant

Located at 414 Blossom Hill Rd in San Jose, California, Pearl River Restaurant falls under the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a dine-in experience for those seeking Chinese cuisine in the area. They can be contacted at (408) 225-5060 or their mobile number +1 408-225-5060. Recent customer reviews present a mixed picture of the dining experience at Pearl River Restaurant, with contrasting opinions on food quality and service.

One customer shared a significantly negative experience regarding the food. They mentioned that this was the second time they had ordered a chicken dish and expressed extreme dissatisfaction, stating it would be their last. The chicken was described as being excessively dry underneath the breading and sauce, so much so that they reportedly needed kitchen scissors to cut through it. This paints a concerning picture of the quality and preparation of at least one of their chicken dishes.

The same reviewer also detailed a poor experience with the war wonton soup. According to their account, the soup tasted like "lettuce water," a description attributed to their daughter, and contained soggy old lettuce leaves with no discernible ginger or soy sauce, just plain watery broth and old wontons. The fact that the only one who enjoyed the food was their dog further emphasizes the level of dissatisfaction expressed. The reviewer strongly advised others not to waste their money on the "old chicken" and "old soup" served at the restaurant.

In stark contrast to this negative feedback, another customer reported a very positive experience. They found the restaurant to be "very clean" with a "really nice" setup, suggesting that the ambiance and cleanliness of the establishment are commendable. This indicates that Pearl River Restaurant might offer a pleasant and well-maintained dining environment.

This positive reviewer also praised their waitress as being "very informative and very tentative," highlighting excellent customer service. They detailed ordering the #3 dinner special, which, for $17 per person, included soup, two appetizers, two entrees, and two sides for two people. This suggests that Pearl River Restaurant offers reasonably priced dinner specials that provide a substantial amount of food for the cost, indicating good value.

Furthermore, this customer found everything in their meal to be "delicious and well presented on our plates," directly contradicting the negative feedback regarding food quality from the other reviewer. The positive reviewer concluded by stating they would "definitely recommend this place if you want nice, comfortable, affordable and delicious Chinese food," offering a strong endorsement based on their experience.

Considering these contrasting reviews, the environment of Pearl River Restaurant appears to be clean and well-organized, contributing to a potentially nice and comfortable dining setting. The service seems to be a strong point for some customers, with at least one reviewer highlighting an informative and attentive waitress. However, experiences with food quality seem to vary significantly, with one customer reporting severely dry chicken and tasteless soup, while another found the dishes in the dinner special to be delicious and well-presented.

A key feature of Pearl River Restaurant appears to be their dinner specials, such as the #3 special mentioned, which offers a variety of dishes at an affordable per-person price. This could be a significant draw for customers looking for a comprehensive and budget-friendly meal. However, the inconsistency in food quality, particularly concerning staple dishes like chicken and soup, is a significant factor that potential customers should consider.

No specific promotional information beyond the mention of the affordable $17 per person dinner special was provided in the reviews. Local users might want to inquire directly with the restaurant about any other ongoing promotions or discounts they may offer.

In conclusion, Pearl River Restaurant in San Jose offers a clean and nicely set up environment with the potential for attentive service and affordable dinner specials. However, recent customer reviews indicate significant inconsistencies in food quality, with some dishes receiving strong negative feedback regarding dryness and taste, while others are described as delicious. Local users considering Pearl River Restaurant should be aware of this mixed feedback and might want to inquire about the preparation of specific dishes or consider trying the dinner specials that have received positive mentions for both taste and value. The stark contrast in experiences suggests that food quality control might be an area for potential improvement at this establishment.

This is the second time I’ve ordered a chicken dish at this particular Chinese restaurant. This is the last time the chicken is so dry underneath the breading and sauce I needed kitchen scissors to cut through the chicken I am not kidding! We also order the war wonton soup it tasted like lettuce water my daughter said with soggy old lettuce leaf, no ginger, no soy sauce just plain old lettuce water and old wontons, The only person who liked the food with the dog. Please don’t waste your hard earned money on this old chicken they serve and old soup!

Very clean and set up is really nice. Our waitress was very informative and very tentative. We ordered the #3 dinner special. For two people we got soup, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 sides. All for $17 per person. Everything was delicious and well presented on our plates. I would definitely recommend this place if you want nice, comfortable, affordable and delicious Chinese food.

My husband and I have been loyal customers of Pearl River for many years, hoping each visit would bring a better experience. Unfortunately, after our recent visit, I can confidently say that we will never return. If I could give them a negative star rating, I absolutely would. To start, my husband ordered the war wonton soup, which he usually enjoys with extra noodles. What we received was shocking. The noodles looked and tasted like cheap Top Ramen, and we couldn't believe we were charged an extra $2.00 for such a subpar product. It was both disappointing and frustrating. As for my favorite dish, the lemon chicken, I was equally let down. It used to be the best in South San Jose, but this time, the chicken was tough, and the sauce tasted like something out of a TV dinner. I had high hopes for a delicious meal, and I left feeling incredibly disappointed. I truly wanted to love Pearl River again, but this last experience has made it clear that we will be looking elsewhere for our Chinese food cravings. It's a shame to see a once-great restaurant fall so far short of expectations.

A beautiful, elegantly adorned space, with a full menu of traditional Chinese dishes, tasty and with the level of spice adjustable to your taste upon request. Service is respectful, food is ready quickly. Definitely a place for a fast, delicious meal with no shortcuts taken.

We were hankering for Chinese food and I am glad we came across this place. This restaurant is focused on making good food. The hot and sour soup was thick and filled with mushrooms, tofu, and prawns and the chicken fried rice was delicious!
