About Panda Garden
Panda Garden, situated at 11312 US Hwy 15 501 N #303 in Chapel Hill, NC 27517, falls under the platform category of Chinese Restaurants, primarily offering takeout services with a few tables available for dining in. They can be contacted at (919) 960-8000 or +1 919-960-8000 for placing orders or inquiries. Based on the limited recent customer reviews available online, there appear to be contrasting experiences regarding the food quality and overall satisfaction at this establishment.
One reviewer expressed a highly positive opinion, particularly highlighting Panda Garden's Mei Fun and Chow Mein as the "absolute BEST" in the Triangle area. This customer, identifying as a New York transplant, strongly recommended the restaurant, suggesting it is worth the drive for those seeking authentic flavors reminiscent of New York-style Chinese cuisine. Furthermore, this reviewer noted the restaurant's willingness to accommodate a special request to deep fry dumplings, which were reportedly "perfectly delicious." The only drawback mentioned was that Panda Garden is closed on Sundays, and the reviewer concluded with a strong recommendation.
In contrast, another recent review presented a significantly less favorable experience. This customer described Panda Garden as a "typical simple small chinese carry-out with a few tables to dine in," noting that while the service was "great, fast, with a smile," the food was "very disappointing." Specific issues were raised regarding the Fried Dumplings, which allegedly smelled burnt upon opening the packaging and were indeed found to be burnt on one side, suggesting improper cooking in a hot wok without flipping. This reviewer found this to be unacceptable.
Furthermore, this negative review criticized the Fried Rice, stating that it was "not fried" but rather "simply seasoned rice with ingredients mixed in," lacking any "oil flavor" or "fried flavor" typically associated with this dish. Despite observing the staff working diligently in the open kitchen, the reviewer concluded that the food was "certainly not done correctly" and stated an intention not to return, expressing disappointment as the location was conveniently close to their new residence.
Considering these two recent reviews, there appears to be a significant divergence in customer experiences at Panda Garden. One customer found the Mei Fun and Chow Mein exceptional and praised the accommodating service, while another was highly dissatisfied with the Fried Dumplings and Fried Rice, citing issues with cooking technique and flavor. The description of the environment as a "typical simple small chinese carry-out with a few tables to dine in" suggests a no-frills setting primarily geared towards takeout orders.
There is no information available in these reviews regarding any specific features that might distinguish Panda Garden beyond the food itself, such as a unique menu, special cooking techniques (other than the reported deep-fried dumplings upon request), or any particular ambiance. Similarly, no promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs, is mentioned in the provided text.
Given the conflicting feedback, local users considering Panda Garden might want to weigh the positive comments about the Mei Fun and Chow Mein against the negative experiences with the Fried Dumplings and Fried Rice. If these specific dishes are of interest, the positive review might be encouraging. However, the reported issues with cooking and flavor in other dishes should also be taken into account.
The description of the restaurant as a "typical simple small chinese carry-out" suggests that the focus is primarily on providing quick and convenient takeout options rather than a comprehensive dine-in experience. The service was described as "great, fast, with a smile" by the negative reviewer, indicating that the staff may be friendly and efficient, which is a positive aspect for takeout customers.
As there is no information about the history of the restaurant, changes in ownership or management, or any recent menu updates, it is difficult to provide further context for these contrasting reviews. Potential customers might consider placing a small order initially to personally assess the food quality and see if it aligns with their expectations based on these recent experiences. The willingness to accommodate special requests, as mentioned in the positive review, could also be a point of consideration for those with specific dietary needs or preferences.
In conclusion, Panda Garden in Chapel Hill presents a mixed picture based on recent online reviews. While one customer lauded their Mei Fun and Chow Mein and appreciated the service, another reported significant issues with the Fried Dumplings and Fried Rice. The restaurant appears to be a simple Chinese carry-out with limited dine-in. Local users should consider these varying opinions when deciding whether to patronize Panda Garden.

The absolute BEST mei fun and chow mein in the Triangle. If you are a NY transplant this place is 100% worth the drive. They were even willing to accommodate a special request to deep fry dumplings and they taste perfectly delicious. My only complaint is that they are closed on Sunday’s. I HIGHLY recommend this place!
Typical simple small chinese carry-out with a few tables to dine in. Service was great, fast, with a smile. Food was very disappointing. Fried Dumplings, when I opened the packaging, smelled burnt. Sure enough, one side burnt, like they put them in a hot wok and didn't flip them. Doesn't seem right. Fried rice was not fried. Simply seasoned rice with ingredients mixed in. No oil flavor, no fried flavor. They were working hard back there (open kitchen). But seems it was certainly not done correctly. I will not be going back, which is a shame since I just moved here and the location is right up the street.
Great service and great food. Very pleasant staff, excellent menu options and good prices all around. Website was very easy and straightforward for online orders. 5/5 would recommend!
This is my favorite Chinese when I come back to NC and I love the reusable bags!!
Pleasantly surprised!!!! We have not gotten takeaway from Panda Garden for quite a while now because it seemed that it was getting more and more expensive while the quality was getting worse. But last night we decided to give it another try, and we were impressed. The menu has expanded, the online ordering process is easier, the prices are appropriate, and the food was great! NY style Chinese food that's super nice for a movie night on a cold evening. We will put Panda Garden back in our rotation for takeout nights!
