About Panda Express
Panda Express, situated at 1171 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd in Mansfield, Texas, is part of a well-known chain of Chinese restaurants offering fast-casual American-Chinese cuisine. This location serves the local community, providing a convenient option for those seeking familiar flavors. Customer reviews offer a mixed perspective on this particular branch, highlighting both positive aspects like service speed and value, as well as concerns regarding food freshness and consistency.
One customer initially had a less favorable experience but provided an updated review after subsequent visits. They noted that their initial experience seemed to be an exception, as service on subsequent occasions was consistently "lightning fast," which is a significant positive aspect for customers seeking quick meal options. They also found the food to be generally "decent." However, they did mention an occasional issue with the orange chicken not being fresh or crispy, indicating potential inconsistencies in the preparation or holding of this popular dish. This reviewer also pointed out that portion sizes are large when dining in, and they considered it a "fair value," suggesting that the amount of food received for the price is reasonable for in-house dining.
In contrast, another customer reported a significantly negative experience during lunch. Their primary complaint was that a Chinese restaurant was "run out of rice," which they found perplexing. Additionally, they described the portions as "small" and the food as "not fresh," with "almost entirely unappetizing vegetables." This customer felt that the meal was overpriced at $11.50, as they reportedly "left hungry." This review raises serious concerns about food availability, portion sizes, freshness, and overall value during the lunch service at this location.
Another customer shared a negative experience related to visiting near closing time. They found the fried rice to be like "stones," describing it as "dried up and fully fried," indicating that it was likely sitting for an extended period. While they mentioned that the chicken was generally "mostly good," they also noted that it could sometimes be "very dry," suggesting inconsistency in the preparation of this protein as well. This review highlights potential issues with food quality, particularly for items that may have been prepared earlier and are being served closer to closing time.
Based on these reviews, it's challenging to form a complete picture of the environment at this Panda Express location. One reviewer specifically mentions "dining," implying that a dine-in option is available, and they found the portion sizes to be large in this context. However, the other two reviews do not provide any information about the restaurant's interior or ambiance, as they seem to be based on takeout or drive-through experiences (though not explicitly stated). Therefore, details regarding the cleanliness, decor, or overall atmosphere of the dining area are not available.
The services offered at this Panda Express in Mansfield appear to include both dine-in and takeout options, as suggested by one reviewer mentioning "dining" and the others focusing on the food quality of their orders without specifying the service method. The updated review noted "lightning fast" service on multiple occasions, which is a positive aspect of their service. However, the other two reviews highlight significant issues with food availability (running out of rice), food freshness (dried-out rice, potentially dry chicken, not-fresh vegetables), and portion sizes (described as small by one reviewer for a lunch order). These inconsistencies in food quality and service aspects are important considerations for potential customers.
In terms of features, the consistently fast service reported by one customer is a notable positive feature. The large portion sizes for dine-in orders and the perceived fair value in that context are also worth mentioning. However, the inconsistencies in food freshness, the reported small portion size during lunch by one customer, and the issue of running out of a staple item like rice during lunch are significant drawbacks. The varying quality of popular items like orange chicken and fried rice, depending on the time of day or preparation batch, also indicates a lack of consistent quality as a reliable feature.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for this Panda Express location in Mansfield based on the provided reviews. Panda Express as a chain frequently offers various promotions and limited-time offers, but whether this specific location is participating in any such promotions at this time cannot be determined from the given text. The recent feedback is primarily focused on the quality and service aspects experienced by individual customers.
In conclusion, the Panda Express at 1171 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd in Mansfield, Texas, offers fast service and potentially large portion sizes for dine-in. However, recent customer reviews also indicate potential issues with food freshness, consistency in quality (particularly for items like orange chicken and fried rice), and even the availability of staple items like rice during lunch. One customer also reported small portion sizes and poor value during a lunch order. Local users may want to weigh the reported speed of service and potential value of dine-in against the noted inconsistencies in food quality and availability when considering this Chinese restaurant.

UPDATED REVIEW: I've been back several times and my initial experience appears to be an exception rather than the norm. Service has always been lightning fast and the food has been decent. Once in a while, the orange chicken isn't fresh/crispy. Portions are large when dining and it's a fair value. How does a Chinese restaurant run out of rice during lunch? Small portions. Not fresh. Almost entirely unappetizing vegetables. $11.50 and I left hungry.
I went during closing and the fried rice was like stones. Dried up and fully fried. Reasonable price chicken is mostly good but sometimes it’s very dry.
Just had a perfect meal. When I go to Panda, I don't have high expectations. Either too small of portions, all veggies and hardly meat on the options that have both, and sometimes a weird greasy taste on the noodles. First time trying this location, didn't experience any of this. Good sized portions, freshest noodles I've ever had, and the proportion of meat/veg was just right. The woman working the drive thru was very polite. I'll be coming back.
I used to go to Panda Express often when I lived in Arlington. I stopped going because there were other ethnic food restaurants to explore nearby. Now I’m in Mansfield. There aren’t as many ethnic food restaurants nearby. But the local Panda Express is much closer. So, I thought I should check them out. I worked as a contractor at Frito Lays for a few months. I did the same at Pizza Hut. So, I’m familiar with how fast-food franchises operate. Panda Express is a rare bird in the sense that it's independent. Its owners and co-founders are husband Andrew Cheng, wife Peggy Cheng, and Andrew’s father, Chef Ming Tsai Cheng. Peggy was a software engineer, working for defense contractors. She brought a systems analysis perspective to logistics and standardization necessary to scale up operations. Back to the review. My career before retirement was in software. I was born in Southeast Asia. The first thing I noticed was the tables were all occupied by customers who were not Asian. In a true Asian restaurant, this would be a red flag for me. But Panda Express is Americanized Asian. The recipes have been adjusted to American tastes. Real Chinese food is full of thick sauces. Panda Express food is lighter. Most likely healthier too. I also noticed that the kitchen staff were not Asian. It doesn’t matter. The recipes are simplified. Remember that Peggy Cheng turned it into a systems approach. I ordered their most popular dish: Orange Chicken. Since I had a coupon, the other dish I ordered was their new Spicy Orange Chicken. Both dishes had a lot of fresh chopped vegetables. Unlike real Chinese food, Panda Express always had fresh vegetables that were not overcooked. Yeah! Both Orange Chicken versions were delicious. And the service was fast. I think I’ll be ordering from Panda Express more often. I recommend them.
Rice caused quite a delay. Then it was not cooked enough. The Noodles were like rubber, under cooked as well. The Beef and Broccoli dish had no broth, and what meat was there was all tiny tidbits and no bigger than a pea. I am very disappointed about paying over $50.00 for 3 people and then not being able to chew or enjoy it... I won't be back there.
