About Panda Express
Welcome to Panda Express, located at 240 Park Hills Plaza in Altoona, Pennsylvania. As a well-known establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Panda Express offers a variety of American Chinese dishes for dine-in and potentially take-out or delivery through third-party services like DoorDash. While one customer initially expressed liking the food, recent feedback raises several concerns regarding management, portion sizes, and child-friendliness that local users may want to consider.
Regarding the environment of the Altoona Panda Express, one customer pointed out a significant issue concerning the lack of changing tables in the restrooms, despite ample space being available. This absence can be particularly inconvenient for parents with young children. Furthermore, the same reviewer highlighted a safety concern with the provided highchairs, noting that they were missing safety straps, posing a potential fall risk for children. The reviewer indicated that this issue had been raised multiple times through surveys over the past year without any apparent action taken by the management.
The services offered by Panda Express in Altoona likely include in-person ordering for dining in and take-out. Additionally, as mentioned by one reviewer, they have previously utilized DoorDash for delivery services. However, the experience with delivery seems to have deteriorated for at least one customer. The primary point of contention in the reviews revolves around the management's responsiveness to customer feedback and the consistency of the food portions, particularly for delivery orders.
One of the features traditionally associated with Panda Express is its menu of popular American Chinese dishes, including the often-praised orange chicken and, as mentioned in a review, the walnut shrimp. One customer initially found the food to be "DELICIOUS!" and enjoyed ordering the kids' size plate meal, which included walnut shrimp, rice, greens, dried apple slices, a drink, and a cookie. However, a significant concern arose regarding the portion sizes, especially for delivery orders placed through DoorDash. This customer reported a gradual decrease in portion sizes over multiple orders, eventually culminating in a meal with only three pieces of shrimp, minimal broccoli and kale, and a small amount of rice. Furthermore, the complete meal, which was supposed to include a drink, apples, and a cookie, was delivered without these items or even utensils.
The drastic reduction in portion size for a $14 meal (excluding delivery fees) led this customer to describe the food received as "scrap food" and express strong dissatisfaction with the value for money. They felt that the quantity was insufficient even for a toddler and no longer justified the price. This significant discrepancy between price and perceived value is a major point of concern raised in the reviews.
The lack of action on the safety issues with the highchairs, despite repeated feedback through official channels like surveys, also suggests a potential disregard for customer concerns and safety. This is a critical point for families with young children who may consider dining at this location.
Currently, there is no positive promotional information available from the provided reviews. The focus of the feedback is on negative experiences related to management inaction, declining portion sizes, and safety hazards. Any potential promotions offered by Panda Express at this location would need to be verified through direct contact with the restaurant or by checking their official website or in-store advertisements.
In conclusion, while one customer initially enjoyed the food at the Panda Express in Altoona, PA, recent reviews highlight significant concerns that potential local users should be aware of. These concerns include a perceived lack of responsiveness from management regarding safety issues like the absence of changing tables and unsafe highchairs. Additionally, there are complaints about drastically reduced portion sizes, particularly for delivery orders, leading to a poor value for money. The inconsistency in order accuracy, with missing items in a delivery order, further compounds these issues. Until these concerns regarding management responsiveness, portion control, and child safety are addressed, potential customers, especially families with young children and those considering delivery, may want to weigh these negative experiences against the general appeal of Panda Express's menu. Although I do like the food here, disappointed in management. I've contacted them on my survey a few times over the past year and no action was taken. There are no changing tables in the bathrooms, even though there is plenty of room. They have highchair for kids however there are no straps on the chairs and kids could fall right through the front where their legs sit. (See pics attached to this review of all chairs missing safety straps) They are looking for someone to get hurt first before they are going to fix them. Not kid friendly at all and apparently no one ever reads the surveys they ask you to do.
14 dollars for scrap food? This used to be one of my favorite places when it fist came to Altoona. This food is DELICIOUS! I used to also doordash it often. But it's gone downhill for portion size. I used to order the same thing all the time because it was just enough for me and didn't leave me super full. I would get the kids' size plate meal with walnut shrimp, rice, and greens. It comes with dried apple slices, a bottled drink, and a cookie or two. I probably ordered this same meal through doordash a dozen times, and the portions slowly got smaller and smaller to a point that it would be just enough for a toddler. I gave them a benefit-of-a-doubt and continued doordashing from them. My final straw was the day I received a plate of 3 pieces of shrimp, 2 pieces of broccoli with 1 kale leaf, and maybe 2 tablespoons of rice. Not only that, it did not come with the drink, apples, cookie, or even utensils. It also was far from fresh, like it was the last amount they had before making new batches. This was a $14 meal through doordash, not including the dasher fee. I'm better off eating a sandwich over that! I will not be purchasing from here until they've figured out portion per price. That price for that little food is outrageous! I highly doubt any child would be pleased with such a small meal.
Update 12-8-18: it is 4:30 am and we are all food poisoned, have been vomiting our guts out for the past 2 days. My youngest daughter got sick 1st and was dismissed early from school yesterday. All of us have the same symptoms and none of us were sick prior to eating. Classic food poisoning. It would be a good idea to inform your cashiers to stop opening the food boxes with their bare hands when they are ringing you up. 2 different employees opened the boxes to see what was in it. Each time their fingers we're in contact with our food and the inside of the container. I even mentioned something to the employee and got an eye roll. Why not write it on the box what the contents are. NEVER touch someone's food, especially if you're handling money. Seriously, who trained these employees? I hate leaving negative comments, but this has got to be the worst! Hold on, I need to go vomit again. Original review: During its 1st week of being open I gave a 5 star review. Food was good and portioned properly. Once all of the trainers left, this place went to the typical Altoona quality and service you find at most fast food chains in the area. Terrible! NEVER and I mean NEVER have they filled the containers to the top and the food is always loosely packed. We ordered the family feast on 3 separate occasions, the 3rd being last night, 12-6-18. All 5 containers were about 3/4 full. No where near the 26 oz. it should be. The last 2 orders, my kids thought we should weigh each carton out of curiosity. Here are the weights. As you can see none of them are full and none weigh anywhere near 26 oz. Quality has also went downhill in a matter of weeks. Nothing tastes like it should anymore. Orange chicken tastes like straight up vinegar and orange juice, Angus beef sauce was brown water, walnut shrimp was soggy and all clumped together, the batter was still RAW, no walnuts. As much as I want to love this place, i just can't. Whoever owns this franchise needs to retrain the staff already or else Panda will not be around very long.
If you want a great customer service experience. Go to Panda express I am really impressed by their employees 👌. 5⭐️
