About Panda Express
Panda Express is a Chinese Restaurant located at 1605, 300 A Ave, Fort Gregg-Adams, VA 23801, situated within the military base (formerly known as Fort Lee until April 28th, 2023). As a Chinese Restaurant on a military installation, it serves a specific community and likely experiences consistent traffic. However, recent customer reviews provide insights into the dining experience that potential patrons should consider.
One first-time visitor expressed surprise at the absence of duck sauce, a common condiment often expected at American Chinese food restaurants. This suggests that Panda Express might have a more limited selection of sauces or condiments compared to some other establishments. The reviewer also found the food to be "not all that great," specifically mentioning that the noodles were "very hard, almost crunchy like." While they conceded that the food was edible, it did not meet their expectations in terms of quality. They also noted that the restaurant is located on a military base, implying a steady customer base regardless of food quality, which might affect the incentive for exceptional culinary standards. The reviewer also pointed out difficulties in understanding the menu and ordering process, particularly for someone unfamiliar with Panda Express, and felt that the staff did not adequately explain the options. Despite acknowledging the extremely long line, which they attributed to the busy nature of the location, this customer stated they would not return on future visits to their son at Fort Gregg-Adams.
Another reviewer was significantly more critical, describing the fried rice as "tasteless" even when heavily seasoned with soy sauce. They also reported experiencing poor customer service, specifically mentioning an older Asian lady who was consistently "pissed" and possessed "horrible" customer service skills. This individual felt that the portions were small and the food was "below mediocre," although they did acknowledge the speed of service ("fast to get you in and out"). The reviewer sarcastically noted that the price one has to pay aligns with the quality, implying a lack of value for money. They did mention that the noodles were "good" but were served in a small quantity and mixed with a large amount of cabbage ("covered in cabbage"). Furthermore, this reviewer claimed that the restaurant would not even provide a water cup to help with the tasteless rice. They concluded their review with a strong warning to others considering dining at Panda Express.
Collectively, these reviews paint a picture of a Chinese Restaurant that may prioritize speed and throughput over food quality and customer service. The noodles are mentioned as being either too hard or good but scarce and mixed with excessive cabbage. The fried rice is consistently described as lacking flavor. The absence of expected condiments like duck sauce might disappoint some customers. Additionally, there are significant concerns raised about the customer service provided by at least one staff member, described as rude and unhelpful. The ordering process might also be unclear for first-time visitors.
Given its location on a military base, Panda Express likely benefits from a captive audience, which might explain some of the criticisms regarding food quality and service, as there may be less competitive pressure compared to off-base restaurants. However, for individuals visiting or residing on Fort Gregg-Adams, these reviews suggest that expectations should be tempered.
The provided information does not offer any insights into the environment or ambiance of this particular Panda Express location. As a chain restaurant often found in food courts or with a fast-food setup, it is likely that the focus is on efficiency rather than a unique or elaborate dining atmosphere. Similarly, the services offered appear to be primarily counter service for immediate consumption or takeout. Delivery options are not mentioned in the reviews and would need to be confirmed through other sources or by contacting the restaurant directly.
As a well-known national chain, Panda Express does have a standard menu with popular items like orange chicken, Kung Pao chicken, and various noodle and rice dishes. However, the specific quality and preparation of these items at the Fort Gregg-Adams location seem to be areas of concern based on the provided reviews. There is no information about any specific promotional offers or menu variations unique to this location.
For local users at or visiting Fort Gregg-Adams, VA, Panda Express offers a convenient option for Chinese fast food. However, the recent customer reviews highlight potential drawbacks, including inconsistent food quality (hard noodles, tasteless fried rice), small portions of some items (noodles), a lack of expected condiments (duck sauce), and issues with customer service. While the speed of service might be appealing for those in a hurry, the overall experience seems to be lacking for some customers. If you are accustomed to the quality and service of other Chinese restaurants, you might find the experience at this Panda Express to be underwhelming. It would be advisable to manage expectations and perhaps consider trying a small order first to assess whether it meets your preferences.

I guess I never expected a Chinese food restaurant not to have duck sauce. In the food was not all that great. The noodles were very hard, almost crunchy like. But at least it was edible and it's on a military base so it's not like they're not making their money... Somebody likes it but it's not for me. And when inquiring about food, they don't do a good job of explaining what it is you're ordering and how to order for a person that has never eaten there. But of course the line was extremely long so I have to give them some grace. But I won't be returning when I go visit my son again at Fort Lee (Fort Adams after April 28th 2023)
If you want tasteless fried rice served with a side of attitude, this is your place. They are fast to get you in and out. However, the servers in particularly an older Asian lady is always pissed. Her customer service skill is horrible. This place doesn’t serve you much and their food is below mediocre, however they get you in and out fast. Like I said. The price you gotta pay right. Ha ha. The fried rice has absolutely no flavor, even if you drown it with soy sauce. The noodles are good but they give you so little and it’s covered in cabbage. It’s crazy. Everything else is alright. Oh they won’t even give you a water cup to down the tasteless rice. Well I’ve warned you if you decided to come here.
Way too generous with the rice and stingy with the protein. All I wanted was a small serving of protein, but a small serving of protein cost just as much as the meal.☹ To see so many people waiting in line for this food, I expected it to be better than what it was. I had a terrible headache that lasted for a couple of hours during and after eating this entree. It must have been high in sodium or MSG; I had to drink a lot of water to flush that food through my system. At any rate, I will not be back. 19Mar21 update - I was desperate for something nutritional, so I tried again. Still way too much rice, not enough protein or veggies.😒 Did not appreciate paying $7 for a bunch of rice or the fatty chicken. All types of info re: nutrition, but not balanced. That is probably one of the problems with Americans' health; too many carbs.
Third visit this month. Food is excellent and I get my fill each time. Service has been great. It's always crowded because of the location, but I was still able to sit and eat in the food court.
I ordered a 2 entrée platter. I ordered beef and broccoli and pepper chicken. The portion size is an absolute joke. The broccoli is under cooked and there is many 2 bites worth the beef. I honestly didn’t think there was any until I separated them. Don’t waste your money on base. It’s cheaper off post and you get a much larger portion.
