About Pak Ling Express
Welcome to Pak Ling Express, a Chinese restaurant located at 2450 Grand Blvd #123 in Kansas City, Missouri, situated within the Crown Center complex. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Pak Ling Express offers a variety of Chinese dishes for locals and visitors alike. Based on the available customer feedback, experiences at Pak Ling Express appear to be somewhat inconsistent, with contrasting views on food quality and customer service.
One customer had a highly positive experience, noting that their party of four ordered two sesame chicken dishes, one General Tso's chicken, and one garlic chicken. They were impressed that everything was freshly made, prepared very quickly, and served hot with "insane flavors." This reviewer specifically highlighted the tenderness of the garlic chicken, mentioning it was so tender it fell apart while eating. This positive feedback suggests that Pak Ling Express is capable of producing flavorful and freshly cooked meals that can be very satisfying for customers.
However, another customer recounted a significantly negative experience during a visit with their daughter and two-year-old grandson. This reviewer mentioned that the older gentleman taking their order was unfriendly and did not speak. They ordered a larger meal with crab Rangoon for $14.99 and described the chicken as chewy, cold, and tasting three days old, deeming it not worth the price. Furthermore, when they requested a plastic bag for leftovers, the same staff member was initially unhelpful, directing them elsewhere before finally providing a bag after being shown the leftovers were from Pak Ling Express. This customer described the staff member's personality as "ugly" and strongly advised travelers to choose one of the many better restaurants in Crown Center, based on their negative food and service experience.
Given these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to form a definitive picture of the typical environment at Pak Ling Express. The fact that it is located within Crown Center suggests it might be a more casual, possibly food court-style setup catering to shoppers and visitors of the complex. Food court environments typically prioritize efficiency and quick service, which aligns with the positive reviewer's experience of fast preparation. However, the negative reviewer did not explicitly describe the environment, focusing more on the food and service quality.
In terms of services, Pak Ling Express clearly offers dine-in and takeout options, as indicated by both reviews. The first customer mentioned "went in" and received their order quickly, implying a dine-in or immediate takeout scenario. The second customer also dined in with their family. However, there is no information available regarding delivery services. It is common for express-style restaurants to focus on counter service for ordering and pickup, and potentially have a limited seating area for on-site dining.
Features of Pak Ling Express, based on the positive review, include the ability to prepare food freshly and quickly, even for multiple orders. The "insane flavors" mentioned suggest that they use seasonings and recipes that result in a distinctive and enjoyable taste for some customers. The tenderness of the garlic chicken was also a notable positive feature for one reviewer. However, the negative review highlights potential inconsistencies in food quality, with complaints about chewiness and temperature, which would be a significant negative feature if these issues are recurrent.
The negative review also points to a potential issue with customer service, specifically with an "older gentleman" who was perceived as unfriendly and unhelpful. This inconsistency in service quality is an important factor for potential customers to consider. While one reviewer found the staff to be efficient in preparing the food, another experienced a lack of basic courtesy and assistance.

I don't know how this place has a 2.4 rating. 4 of us went in. Got 2 orders on sesame, a order of general tsao and garlic chicken. Everything was freshly made really quick. Hot and fresh with insane flavors. The garlic chicken fell apart as I was eating it was so tender
My daughter, myself and 2year old grandson just went here today, riding the streetcar from city market to crown center for an adventure. Of all of the amazing restaurant choices - we chose this one for one meal for the 2 year old. got the larger $14.99 meal with crab Rangoon. First thing was the older gentleman taking the order never spoke, just seemed to be in a bad mood. Chewy cold chicken that tasted 3 days old. I got a meal elsewhere and joined my daughter. when we were leaving and asked for a simple plastic bag to carry the leftovers in - the older gentleman shot his arm out finally speaking for the first time saying to get a bag around the corner. I opened up the tray to show him that the leftovers were from there and he handed over a bag. Just an ugly personality and the food wasn't worth the price - cold and chewy. There are so many better restaurants in crown center that I would advise travelers go to.
Rude employees probably was the owner. No greeting or anything. Waited in the “wrong” area to order, he saw us over there and didn’t acknowledge us at all! Second, it’s a $1.25 extra for crab Rangoon, I open my plate and there is ONE CRAB RANGOON. IN THIS ECONOMY I PAID $1.25 FOR ONE! So not only are they rude, but very over priced ! Never coming here again !
I was honestly surprised by the quality of the food here. I ordered the Beef Lo Mein and my boyfriend had the one entrée meal with Sesame Chicken and lo mein. They cooked my Beef Lo Mein fresh and the beef was -incredibly- tender. Chinese takeout beef has no business being as pleasantly tender as it came out in my order. The mushrooms and broccoli were good as well. It wasn't overly oily, which was nice. My only complaint/suggestion is that the dish could improve with some minced garlic and possibly some scallions added in for extra flavor. The Sesame Chicken seemed like pretty average fare, it didn't stand out spectacularly but was nice and hot despite being under a heat lamp for however long. The service was average, but I did notice they -do- charge for a water cup (about $0.25 if I recall correctly). Drinks run about $2.00 more or less, and I'm not quite sure if they offer refills. I honestly didn't expect much for it being more of a tourist-ridden place but the beef in the beef lo mein was really really good for no apparent reason. It was also cheaper than the one entrée meal, so I'd recommend ordering the beef lo mein if nothing else.
Ordered Szechuan Garlic Pork. It comes with fried rice and a spring roll. The food was cooked fresh and made to order. They were also very quick (less than 5 minutes). The taste was good, although the fried rice is OK. The price is decent (it was 7.99+tax) and you can dine-in/eat there.
