About Oriental Palace

Oriental Palace is a Chinese restaurant located at 147-21 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica, NY 11435, USA. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Oriental Palace has served the community for several years. However, recent customer reviews indicate a significant shift in the restaurant's quality and offerings due to a change in ownership.

Several recent reviews highlight a noticeable decline in the food quality and changes in menu items since the restaurant changed owners. One former long-time favorite customer noted a "dramatic change" occurring around June 2023, describing the food as "noticeably inferior." This customer reported that the pork egg rolls now contain "0 pork" and are smaller than before, and the overall taste of the food has become "mediocre." Upon inquiring, they confirmed that the ownership had indeed changed hands, leading to their decision to no longer frequent or recommend the establishment.

Another reviewer echoed these sentiments, stating that "They changed owners. The food is completely different." This customer provided specific examples of the altered dishes. The fried rice is now described as "light brown with no onions nothing," a significant departure from what it apparently used to be. When ordering over the phone, this reviewer mentioned being required to order a large size to get a "comb," a term that was not explained to them. Furthermore, they found the chicken broccoli and general tso chicken to be "completely drenched in sauce making the chicken soggy." Even the fries were described as "very skinny" with a barely discernible potato taste. This reviewer expressed their disappointment, stating, "Very sad that this place is no longer the same."

Based on these recent reviews, it appears that the change in ownership at Oriental Palace has led to substantial alterations in their food preparation and potentially their menu. The quality of several key dishes, such as fried rice, egg rolls, and popular chicken entrees, seems to have diminished significantly in the eyes of previous loyal customers. The preparation style, particularly the excessive use of sauce leading to soggy chicken, and the change in ingredients, like the lack of pork in the egg rolls and the simplified fried rice, are major points of concern raised by reviewers.

The mention of being required to order a large size to get a "comb" during phone orders, without a clear explanation of what the "comb" entails, also suggests a potential change in ordering policies or menu structures that might not be effectively communicated to customers. This lack of transparency can lead to confusion and dissatisfaction among patrons.

Regarding the environment and services, the provided reviews primarily focus on the food quality and ordering experience. There is no specific information about the restaurant's ambiance, dine-in options (if any), or the service beyond the phone ordering interaction. The emphasis on takeout in one review ("favorite Chinese take out") suggests that Oriental Palace may primarily cater to customers looking to order food to go.

Features of Oriental Palace, based on past experiences of one reviewer, used to include being a "favorite Chinese take out" with presumably high-quality food. However, under the new ownership, the features seem to have shifted towards a different style of cooking and potentially different ingredients, resulting in dishes that are perceived as inferior by at least two recent customers. The "comb" option mentioned during phone orders could be a new feature related to meal deals, but without further explanation, its value and appeal are unclear.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any current specials, menu updates, or changes in service at Oriental Palace would need to contact the restaurant directly or check if they have an online presence with updated information.

For local users in Jamaica, NY, who may have been familiar with Oriental Palace under its previous ownership, it is important to be aware of the significant changes reported by recent customers. The reviews suggest a considerable decline in food quality, alterations in key dishes, and potentially confusing new ordering policies. If you were a fan of Oriental Palace in the past, your experience under the new ownership may differ significantly. It might be prudent to consider these recent experiences before placing an order.

Given the strong negative feedback regarding the changes in food quality and preparation, new customers might also want to approach Oriental Palace with caution. While individual preferences can vary, the consistency in the negative comments from previously satisfied customers suggests a notable shift in the restaurant's offerings.

To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of Oriental Palace, it might be helpful to look for more recent reviews on various online platforms. This could provide a broader range of perspectives and potentially indicate if the issues raised in the current reviews are isolated incidents or part of a larger trend under the new ownership. However, based on the provided information, there are clear indications of a decline in quality that potential customers should be aware of.

In conclusion, Oriental Palace in Jamaica, NY, a Chinese restaurant with a history of being a local favorite for takeout, has undergone a change in ownership that appears to have significantly impacted the quality of its food. Recent customer reviews describe altered dishes with inferior ingredients and preparation, leading to disappointment among previous loyal patrons. Local users should be aware of these reported changes when considering Oriental Palace for their Chinese food needs.

They changed owners. The food is completely different. Fried rice is now light brown with no onions nothing. While ordering on the phone they make you order large to have it as a “comb” but don’t explain the comb. The chicken broccoli and general tso chicken is completely drenched in sauce making the chicken soggy. Fries are very skinny , can barley taste the potato. Very sad that this place is no longer the same.

This had been my favorite Chinese take out for several yrs. However, 2 orders ago I noticed a dramatic change (June 2023). The food was noticeably inferior. Pork egg rolls have 0 pork, and are smaller. And, the food just tasted mediocre. I decided to order again, and asked if there had been a change. The answer was "yes". I believe ownership has changed hands. Sadly, I will no longer be able to brag about this place. I can get the current quality anywhere.

Person on the phone took down the wrong address. Delivery driver was next door for 5-10 minutes... Egg foo young omelets were ok, the gravy had a weird(vegetable bouillon) taste and was too thick. Chicken wings were tasty. The Sesame chicken was waaaaay too sweet and has no actual sesame flavor just seeds on top. This place could do better😞

King Garden was my go to Chinese delivery in the area. Since they became sweet bamboo, not only did the food become more expensive, but it doesn’t taste as good. I guess I’ll have to find a new spot!
