About Oriental Kitchen

Oriental Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant located at 2615, 178 Swanton Rd #2 in St. Albans City, VT 05478. For local users in the St. Albans City area seeking Chinese cuisine, Oriental Kitchen can be contacted at (802) 527-6188 or +1 802-527-6188. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout services; however, recent customer reviews indicate considerable concerns regarding the quality and taste of their food.

One customer, who reported trying Oriental Kitchen on multiple occasions, noted that while the staff was consistently "nice," the food itself was not satisfactory. In a recent order totaling nearly $70 for three meals, this customer stated that all the dishes were "not good." They specifically highlighted the sweet and sour shrimp, where they received only "half of a shrimp in the breading," deeming this unacceptable given the full price charged. This suggests potential issues with portion control and value for money. Furthermore, they described all the rice they received as "dry and tasteless" and the chicken lo mein as containing "maybe had 4 small chunks of chicken," which was also characterized as "greasy and no flavor." Based on these repeated negative experiences, this customer stated they "won't be going back."

Another customer shared their dine-in experience while passing through the area. Interestingly, the most positive aspect of their visit was the "young lady behind the counter," whom they rated five stars. This suggests that at least one staff member provided excellent customer service. However, the feedback on the food itself was starkly negative. This reviewer described the food as "some of the worst Chinese food that I ever had." They noted that the rice was not fried, as expected, but was simply "yellow colored rice." The "happy family meal" was reported to have "zero flavor," with the exception of the shrimp and scallops smelling "weird." Despite the large portion size of this meal, the customer found it so unappetizing that they "threw it all out." Additionally, the beef and broccoli combo they ordered was also unsatisfactory, leading to a total waste of $40 for their meal. Although they did not complain at the time of their visit, they expressed strong disappointment and indicated that, were they not just passing through, they "normally would give the place a second chance to redeem itself."

Based on these two recent reviews, the environment and services at Oriental Kitchen present a mixed picture. While one reviewer specifically praised the friendliness of the staff, particularly the person at the counter, the overwhelming sentiment regarding the food quality overshadows any potential positives about the dining atmosphere. The negative descriptions of the food, including small shrimp portions, dry and tasteless rice, greasy and flavorless lo mein, and weird-smelling seafood, suggest significant issues with the kitchen operations and the quality of ingredients or preparation methods.

The primary feature of Oriental Kitchen, as a Chinese restaurant, should be its food. However, the recent feedback strongly indicates a failure to meet basic expectations in terms of taste, quality, and portion sizes of key ingredients. The discrepancy between the positive mention of staff friendliness and the highly negative assessment of the food creates a concerning picture for potential customers.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Given the serious concerns raised about the fundamental quality of the food, it is unlikely that any promotions would be sufficient to attract or retain customers who prioritize taste and value. Any promotional offers would need to be considered in the context of the reported experiences of receiving poorly prepared dishes with substandard ingredients.

In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for Oriental Kitchen in St. Albans City, VT, paint a concerning picture for local users seeking a satisfactory Chinese dining experience. While the staff may be friendly, the feedback regarding the food quality is overwhelmingly negative, with complaints about small portions of key ingredients, tasteless and poorly prepared rice, greasy and flavorless dishes, and even weird-smelling seafood. These issues suggest significant problems with the restaurant's culinary offerings. Potential customers should carefully consider this recent feedback before deciding to dine at or order from Oriental Kitchen, and may want to explore alternative Chinese restaurants in the St. Albans City area that have received more positive and consistent reviews regarding their food quality and overall dining experience.

I have tried this place several times. People are always nice, unfortunately the food isn't. Recently spent almost $70 on 3 meals, and all of it was not good. I got sweet and sour shrimp. They put half of a shrimp in the breading! If you charge me full price, I want a full shrimp. I know times are tough, but that's just unacceptable. Every rice we got was dry and tasteless. Chicken lo mein maybe had 4 small chunks of chicken, greasy and no flavor. I won't be going back.

This is based on my dine in experience while passing through the area. The best part of my dinner experience there was the young lady behind the counter. I gave her 5 stars. The food itself was some of the worst Chinese food that I ever had. The rice was not fried at all, it was yellow colored rice. The happy family meal had zero flavor except for the shrimp and scallops smelling weird. Such a huge portion, too bad I threw it all out. Did not complain when I was there but it was a waste of 40.00 for my meal and the beef and broccoli combo. I normally would give the place a second chance to redeem itself but since I am traveling through I would not be able to try it again.

This is the first time I have had poor food out of this location with old rice, burnt boneless ribs and over dried chicken(which was not edible ) will be following up on this when they open tomorrow.

For me, the best Chinese food take out place in Saint Albans! They do deliver, not sure if it’s free or not. Limited dining area. Average wait time is 10-15 minutes. Friday night is their busiest time so expect longer wait. Our go to are pork fried rice, sesame chicken or general tso’s chicken, egg rolls with extra sauce and winton soup. The spare rib combo with fried rice & one egg roll I recommend.

The owners are soooo sweet. Their food is great. I always ask for them to make my chicken a little more spicy 🔥 and they always do it. Their egg rolls are rocking. I think their prices are pretty fair.
