About Oriental Gourmet

Oriental Gourmet is a Chinese restaurant located at 558 N Grandstaff Dr, Auburn, IN 46706, USA. They can be contacted at (260) 927-1788 or their mobile number +1 260-927-1788.

As a Chinese restaurant, Oriental Gourmet offers dine-in and takeout services, including lunch specials. Customer experiences appear to be varied. One first-time visitor described the atmosphere as pleasant despite a child playing in the dining area. This customer ordered from the lunch special and also had crab rangoon, which was a favorite. However, they found the orange chicken to be overcooked and crunchy, the fried rice bland, the hot and sour soup warm with a metallic taste, and the egg roll mostly cabbage and not flavorful. This customer expressed disappointment, noting it lacked the authentic flavor they hoped for in a mom-and-pop restaurant.

In contrast, another long-time fan of Oriental Gourmet mentioned that they feel the restaurant has made positive adjustments to their recipes, with the General Tso Chicken being described as "simply amazing" on a recent visit, featuring finely cut chicken with a perfect crunch. This reviewer drew a comparison to a more upscale Chinese restaurant in Fort Wayne, suggesting a significant improvement in food quality. They noted that the atmosphere is "wanting" and "rugged" but that it doesn't matter for those seeking a very casual dining experience. Oriental Gourmet serves soda in cans rather than offering fountain drinks.

Based on these reviews, Oriental Gourmet is characterized by its friendly staff and offers lunch specials. However, the environment is casual, and customer opinions on food quality are mixed, with some reporting issues like overcooked chicken and bland rice, while others have experienced and appreciated recent improvements in certain dishes. Local users may want to consider these varying experiences when deciding to dine at or order from Oriental Gourmet.

First time eating at the restaurant, the atmosphere was pleasant as a child was rompering in the dining room, Ordered from the lunch speacial with an extra order of crab rangoon's my fav. The orange chicken i ordered was way over cooked, almost to the point it was crunchy... the fried rice was a bit bland and missing the needed flavor we all love. Hot and sour soup came out warm and had a metalic flavor to it, i took a mouthfull and placed that to the side. The egg roll was mostly cabbage, missing veg and was not tastefull, my original hopes were hi for the mom and pop run restaurant, some spots have that authentic flavor, this is not one of them unfortunally.⭐️

Pictured is the lunch serving of General Tso Chicken. The staff is always extremely friendly. We've been a fan of this restaurant over the years. I feel like they've done some adjustments to their recipes, and today it was simply amazing. The chicken was more finely cut, with a perfect crunch. It reminded me of Wu's Fine Chinese in Fort Wayne (side note-more of upscale Chinese place, also excellent). The atmosphere here is definitely wanting, but if you don't mind a rugged feel, then that doesn't really matter anyways. Very casual. They serve soda in cans, no fountain drinks.

First time customer. My picky toddler ate the shrimp lo mein and the wonton soup (amazing!). Overall the food was fresh and delicious. I got the garlic chicken, with steamed rice and crab rangoons, as well as sweet and sour pork with fried rice and egg drop soup for my husband. The food stayed hot and the flavors were tasty.

This place is amazing. The food is great, the price is right and they are very nice. The thing I love is they will leave out anything you don't want, you know if you're picky. Also the crab rangoon are so good!!!!!
