About Oriental Gourmet Chinese Restaurant

Situated in the Saratoga Plaza Shopping Center at 1646 S De Anza Blvd in San Jose, California, Oriental Gourmet Chinese Restaurant is a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category that specializes in Shanghai cuisine. Operating with limited resources and reportedly run by a couple, this restaurant offers a family-style dining experience. They can be contacted at (408) 253-2345 or their mobile number +1 408-253-2345. Recent customer reviews provide insights into the service, food quality, and overall atmosphere of this neighborhood eatery.

One reviewer described Oriental Gourmet as a neighborhood Shanghai cuisine restaurant managed by a couple. They highlighted the restaurant's limited resources, which they suggest necessitates patience from customers, particularly for large groups and those wishing to reserve special dishes. This implies that the restaurant might be a smaller operation with a focus on a more personalized, albeit potentially slower, service style. The reviewer also noted that the food quality was "hit and miss," with some dishes being good while others were not as satisfactory. They concluded by mentioning the family-style nature of the dining experience, which typically involves dishes being shared among the table.

Another customer shared a less positive experience. Their party reportedly had to wait for about five minutes at the front before being seated, which they attributed to the presence of only one staff member. This aligns with the previous reviewer's comment about limited resources and suggests that staffing might be minimal, potentially leading to delays during busy periods. Regarding the food, this reviewer found it to be "kinda salty overall and not very traditional." They also described the portion sizes as "just ok" and stated that they would not give the restaurant a second chance based on their experience. This feedback indicates potential inconsistencies in food quality and taste, as well as concerns about the authenticity of the dishes and the value in terms of portion size.

Considering the limited information available from these two reviews, it is challenging to paint a comprehensive picture of the environment and services at Oriental Gourmet Chinese Restaurant. However, we can infer that the atmosphere is likely that of a small, neighborhood establishment, possibly run with a more personal touch due to its operation by a couple. The limited resources mentioned might contribute to a more casual setting rather than a formal or elaborate ambiance. The service appears to be potentially impacted by the limited staffing, as evidenced by the reported wait time for seating.

The primary feature of Oriental Gourmet seems to be its focus on Shanghai cuisine, aiming to offer a taste of this specific regional Chinese culinary tradition to the local community. The family-style service suggests a communal dining approach, encouraging sharing and sampling of various dishes. However, the conflicting feedback on food quality and authenticity indicates that the execution of this feature might be inconsistent. The necessity for customers with large groups or special dish requests to call ahead suggests a degree of flexibility and willingness to accommodate, but also highlights the operational constraints due to limited resources.

There is no promotional information provided in the customer reviews. Therefore, local users interested in Oriental Gourmet Chinese Restaurant would need to contact the establishment directly to inquire about any specials, discounts, or promotions they might be currently offering. Given the mention of limited resources, it is also advisable for large groups or those with specific dietary needs or dish preferences to call ahead, as suggested by one of the reviewers.

In conclusion, Oriental Gourmet Chinese Restaurant in San Jose presents itself as a neighborhood eatery specializing in Shanghai cuisine with a family-style approach. However, potential customers should be aware of the mixed feedback regarding the food quality, which has been described as inconsistent and not particularly traditional by some. The service might also be slower at times due to limited staffing. While the personal touch of a restaurant run by a couple could be appealing to some, the reported issues with food and service are important considerations for those deciding whether to dine here. Calling ahead for large groups or special requests seems to be a recommended practice. Without any information on current promotions, interested individuals should directly contact the restaurant for any such details.

A neighborhood Shanghai cusine restaurant run by a couple. With very limited resources, customers really need to have patience and call ahead for large groups and reserve special dishes. The dishes were a hit and miss kind, some were good, some were not so good. Family style!

My party was standing in the front for about 5 mins waiting to be seated because there was only one lady. Foods were kinda salty overall and not very traditional. Portions were just ok. Will not give it a second chance.

Solid Shanghainese food. Very authentic, just like my mother's cooking. I regret I kept putting off coming here for so many years.

this is truly one of the most authentic shanghainese restaurants in the cupertino and san jose area. their specialty is the sheng jian bao (pan-fried buns) and xiao long bao (soup dumplings). this restaurant is usually not busy at all, but the service can still be a tad bit slow due to limited workers. the prices have also gone up recently, but the quality is still authentic nonetheless.

Great food! Everything was delicious here with great price! Ordered the steamed fish, the crispy chicken with oil and the tofu with mushrooms and cabbage. Also got the Shanghai pan friend buns as appetizer. All well seasoned and yummy! The crispy chicken was especially good, with the chicken deeply fried in oil, soaked in slightly sweet sauce. The steamed fish was very fresh and with a hint of steam fish oil and scallions, making it enjoyable. I love the pan fried buns too as it was authentic and full of hot, flavorful soup. The tofu was good too, though not as impressive as other ones. Overall a very good restaurant indeed.
