About Oriental Express Cafe

Located at 158 S San Gabriel Blvd in San Gabriel, California, Oriental Express Cafe presents itself as a Chinese Restaurant offering a distinctively authentic and budget-friendly culinary experience. Based on available online reviews, this establishment stands out for its commitment to traditional Chinese flavors, steering clear of common Americanized dishes. For local users seeking an affordable and genuine taste of China, Oriental Express Cafe offers a unique proposition.

Regarding the environment of Oriental Express Cafe, the provided information offers limited insights. One review focuses primarily on a negative interaction with staff outside the restaurant's operating hours and does not comment on the interior ambiance or décor. Another review, while praising the food and price, does not describe the physical setting. Therefore, a detailed description of the restaurant's atmosphere cannot be objectively constructed based on the available data.

The service at Oriental Express Cafe appears to have mixed reviews. One individual recounted a negative encounter with a female staff member who was reportedly rude and unwelcoming, even when the reviewer was simply asking a question about a neighboring business. This experience seemingly left a poor impression without the reviewer even trying the food. However, another review, which focused on the dining experience itself, did not mention any issues with service, instead highlighting the value and authenticity of the food. This suggests that service quality might be inconsistent or that different patrons have varying experiences. Potential customers may want to consider this varied feedback when deciding to visit.

The standout feature of Oriental Express Cafe, according to one enthusiastic reviewer, is its dedication to serving authentic Chinese cuisine at remarkably low prices. This reviewer explicitly mentions the absence of dishes like General Tso's chicken, often found in Americanized Chinese restaurants, implying a focus on more traditional regional specialties. The value for money is particularly emphasized, with the reviewer expressing astonishment at being able to purchase four items plus rice, tea, and soup for a very low price point. This suggests that Oriental Express Cafe could be an excellent option for those seeking a budget-friendly meal without compromising on the authenticity of flavors.

Another significant feature highlighted in the positive review is the generous portion sizes offered at Oriental Express Cafe. The reviewer used the phrase "huge portions," indicating that diners can expect substantial servings for the price. This combination of affordability, authenticity, and generous portions could be a major draw for local users looking for a satisfying and economical Chinese meal.

The positive review also includes a somewhat humorous suggestion to "Bring a Chinese friend lol." This could be interpreted in a couple of ways. It might subtly reinforce the idea that the food is genuinely authentic and perhaps more aligned with the tastes of those familiar with traditional Chinese cuisine. Alternatively, it could be a lighthearted comment not necessarily indicative of any communication barriers or a need for translation. However, without further context, the precise meaning remains open to interpretation.

Based on the available information, there is no mention of any specific promotional offers or discounts currently being run by Oriental Express Cafe. The primary appeal seems to be the consistently low prices and the authenticity of the food itself. Local users seeking promotional deals might need to inquire directly with the restaurant via phone at (626) 292-1868 or mobile at +1 626-292-1868 to ascertain if any special offers are available.

In conclusion, Oriental Express Cafe in San Gabriel presents itself as a Chinese Restaurant that prioritizes authentic flavors and affordability. One reviewer lauded the cheap prices, large portions, and the absence of Americanized dishes, suggesting a genuine Chinese culinary experience. However, it is important to note that another review reported a negative service encounter unrelated to the food itself. Potential customers should weigh these contrasting perspectives. For those primarily focused on obtaining a budget-friendly and authentic Chinese meal with generous servings, Oriental Express Cafe appears to be a noteworthy option in the San Gabriel area. Local users are encouraged to consider the available feedback and perhaps try the food for themselves to form their own opinion on the overall dining experience.

Quick note - Didn't eat here (thank goodness). Review covers the service and atmosphere, but I guess you can say the place left a bad taste in my mouth. I asked a simple question about a business next door to the female staff closing up the restaurant. She had a terrible attitude all without any provocation - practically shouted me out the door. Who would want to try any food from such a vile personality?

What can I say...?? This is some cheap Hole-in-The-Wall Chinese Hot Tray Combination Food in a tiny non-descript strip mall setting when you want to fill your stomach. Free Drink + Comes with Soup & Rice. It's decent. It's good by Hot Tray Combination Chinese Food Standards, lol. Lady is very nice. Sodas in the fridge on the right- COKE or SPRITE. NO RESTROOMS. Limited Parking Lot and Street Parking. So I got some little Omelette thing with an egg cooked on top, some Chinese Curry Chicken and some Chinese Ginger Chicken. I was thinking of the very popular old Xiao Mei Restaurant in San Gabriel years ago, which was actually pretty darned good for what it was and decided to come here, my reason for today's visit.

I don't know much about traditional Chinese food, I'm very accustomed to American fast food that people call Chinese food. So I didn't enjoy the chow mein. However, the staff was incredibly nice, helpful, and attentive. I think the place is a cool little hole-in-the-wall Chinese stop, but it's just not my taste. The floor and overall presentation of the eating area is less than desired, but we still had a nice meal.

It may not be the most Instagram worthy location but it is great. The food might not look pretty but you're getting good food. Too many places try too hard to look pretty, this place isn't messing around, you point and move on. Simple and fast, but the quantity and quality is there. You will be getting good food and a large portion.
