About Oriental Cafe
Oriental Cafe is a Chinese restaurant located at 39 E 7th St in National City, California. This establishment has been serving the local community for many years, fostering a loyal customer base. Customers can contact Oriental Cafe by phone at (619) 474-7228 or via their mobile number +1 619-474-7228.
Based on recent customer reviews, the environment at Oriental Cafe is described as "old run down outdated." One reviewer noted that this could be perceived as either a good or bad thing depending on individual preferences. The presence of loyal customers who have been coming for years suggests a certain charm or familiarity that appeals to them, perhaps overlooking the dated décor. The reviewer also mentioned issues with cleanliness and ripped upholstery on the chairs, indicating that the restaurant's upkeep might be lacking. However, they did note that the service was "decent." Oriental Cafe offers a small parking lot as well as street parking options for its patrons.
The service at Oriental Cafe receives mixed feedback. One reviewer described it as "wonderful" and noted that the restaurant gets busy on the weekends, implying that despite the potential wait, the service is worth it. In contrast, another reviewer found the service to be merely "decent." This suggests that the service quality might be somewhat variable or perceived differently by different customers. However, the mention of a long-standing loyal customer base hints at a level of service that has satisfied patrons over time.
Several features of the food at Oriental Cafe are mentioned in the reviews. One reviewer found the "fried rice and BBQ pork" to be "ok," while noting that the "sauces on the chicken were bland." They also commented that the "chow mein is mostly bean sprouts and onion," which might be a point of consideration for those who prefer a different balance of ingredients in this dish. On a more positive note, another reviewer simply stated that the food was "delicious," indicating a significant difference in opinion regarding the taste and quality of the offerings. This suggests that some dishes might be more popular or better received than others.
A significant piece of information for potential customers is that Oriental Cafe operates on a "cash only" basis. One reviewer recounted missing the small sign indicating this policy upon entering and having to leave mid-meal to find an ATM. This is a crucial detail for new customers to be aware of to avoid inconvenience. The fact that this policy is not immediately obvious upon entering was a point of frustration for this reviewer.
The presence of "usuals" who all seemed to know each other was also noted by one reviewer. This observation reinforces the idea that Oriental Cafe has a strong base of long-term, local customers, which can often be a positive sign of consistent quality or a welcoming community atmosphere, despite any shortcomings in the physical environment.
Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any specific information about ongoing promotional offers or discounts at Oriental Cafe. The feedback focuses on the environment, service, and food quality, as experienced by individual customers. Local users interested in learning about any current promotions or special deals are encouraged to contact Oriental Cafe directly at (619) 474-7228 or +1 619-474-7228 to inquire about any ongoing offers or featured menu items.
In conclusion, Oriental Cafe in National City is a long-established Chinese restaurant with a dedicated base of loyal customers. While some reviewers note its outdated and somewhat unclean environment, others praise the delicious food and wonderful service, particularly highlighting its popularity on weekends. A key feature to be aware of is the restaurant's cash-only policy. The quality of specific dishes appears to vary according to individual palates, with some finding the fried rice and BBQ pork acceptable and others describing the overall food as delicious. The chow mein's high bean sprout and onion content was specifically mentioned. Despite the concerns about the physical condition of the restaurant, the enduring patronage suggests that Oriental Cafe offers something that resonates with its long-term customers, whether it's the taste of the food, the quality of the service (at least for some), or a combination of both. Potential new customers should weigh the positive comments about food and service against the noted issues with the environment and the inconvenience of the cash-only policy.

This is an old run down outdated place which depending on the person can be a good thing or not. I think the loyal customers who have been coming for years are what keeps this place going. First off it's cash only we missed the small sign on our way in and had to go to an ATM mid meal to get cash out . The chow mein is mostly bean sprouts and onion. I can tell that the customers there were the usuals because they all seemed to know each other. The fried rice and BBQ pork were ok the sauces on the chicken were bland. the place didn't seem very clean, the upholstery on the chairs were ripped. The service was decent. They do have a small parking lot or street parking
Delicious food and wonderful service. Gets busy on the weekends, but it's worth the wait.
Thank you for the many years of service!! I am forever grateful and thankful for have tasted your food. -Grace
I been going to this place for years I loved it! I was there a month ago then I went in again yesterday 3/22 and let me tell you for the first time i was disappointed. The food was crap completely different bland no taste my noodles were mush and light in color pastel yellow and cut up not long dark and flavorful , the pork fried rice had no big chunks of pork that was normally put on top it was also lacking in flavor . My soup full of oil on top . This place was just different now and not good . I spent $130 for everything I ordered normally I spent 120 in this place so now food is bland mush and weird and more expensive. Don't go ! No stars on the food.
I order a lunch plate and there was a fly in the chop suey , also fruit flies in the sweet n sour sauce
