About Old St Louis Chop Suey

Old St Louis Chop Suey is a Chinese restaurant located at 4600 Chippewa St in St. Louis, Missouri (MO 63116), USA. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, it aims to provide Chinese cuisine to the community. However, recent customer feedback available online paints a concerning picture regarding the quality of food and service at this location.

One particularly critical review details a highly negative experience. A customer who drove a significant distance, 35 minutes, specifically seeking "good city rice" reported that their order for five people was entirely incorrect. This indicates a significant issue with order accuracy, which can be a major source of frustration for customers. The review further elaborates on specific problems with the dishes received. The egg fu young, a staple in many Chinese-American restaurants, was noted to have gravy that was not to the customer's expectation. More alarmingly, the fried rice was described as "dry" and poorly mixed, with "white clumps" indicating uneven cooking or a lack of proper incorporation of ingredients. The customer had specifically requested onions, green onions, and bean sprouts without egg in their fried rice but instead received plain rice, further highlighting the inaccuracy of the order.

The same reviewer also mentioned that the "St Paul was terrible," although no further details were provided about this specific dish. The overall experience was so negative that the customer emphatically stated they would "NEVER return," indicating a complete loss of confidence in the restaurant's ability to provide a satisfactory meal.

Another, more recent review echoes the sentiment of disappointment and a lack of intention to return. This customer, who had not visited Old St Louis Chop Suey in years, ordered chicken fried rice and was dismayed to find a very sparse amount of chicken, stating their box contained "only about 3 pieces of chicken." This suggests a potential issue with portion control, particularly regarding the protein content of their dishes. Adding to the unpleasant experience, the reviewer also found an eggshell in their box, pointing towards a lack of attention to detail and quality control in the kitchen. The final complaint was that the rice tasted burnt, indicating a significant flaw in the cooking process. This customer concluded their review by expressing their strong disappointment.

Based on these two recent customer reviews, there are significant concerns regarding the food quality and order accuracy at Old St Louis Chop Suey. Customers have reported issues such as incorrect orders, dry and burnt fried rice, unusually prepared egg fu young, minimal meat portions, and the presence of foreign objects in their food. These are serious issues that can severely impact the dining experience and customer satisfaction.

The reviews do not provide any information about the restaurant's environment or the friendliness of the service beyond the issues with order taking. There is also no mention of any special features or promotional offers currently available at Old St Louis Chop Suey. Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding the core aspects of a restaurant – the food quality and order accuracy – potential local users should approach this establishment with extreme caution based on the information available online.

Without any positive feedback or details about improvements in service or food quality, it is difficult to recommend Old St Louis Chop Suey based on the recent experiences of other customers. The issues raised are fundamental to a satisfactory dining experience, and the strong negative reactions, including vows never to return, should be taken seriously by prospective diners.

Local users considering Old St Louis Chop Suey may want to take these recent experiences into account. While past experiences might have been different, the current online feedback suggests a significant decline in quality and attention to detail. Without additional information or more positive recent reviews to provide a balanced perspective, it is challenging to offer a positive introduction to this Chinese restaurant based solely on the provided customer feedback.

For local users seeking a reliable and enjoyable Chinese dining experience in the St. Louis area, it would be prudent to consider other establishments with more consistently positive recent reviews. The issues highlighted in the feedback for Old St Louis Chop Suey, such as incorrect orders, poor food quality, and potential lack of attention to food safety (as suggested by the eggshell), are significant red flags.

Bare bones interior (a few menu items pictured in random places on the walls), but very friendly folks behind the counter. The booths were roomy, and there were plenty of regulars coming and going with sizeable to-go orders. You could discern the regular customers from how they were greeted as they entered. But, quite comforting for this having been my 1st visit, everyone else was greeted in an equally welcoming manner.

Food was good. The chicken pho was outstanding. Staff was very busy with carry outs. They did answer our questions when we asked and were helpful. However, the environment to eat in could be improved. Table was dirty and we had to clean it before using. Vietnamese food and owned by a Vietnamese family. Menu reflects their heritage.

The order was ready fairly quickly and priced ok unfortunately The food was not good at all. The chicken taste like it was microwaved and mushy. The spoon full of rice they served was very dry and bland. The sauce was watered down and spilled mostly into the bag. This was my first time visiting this location I think its safe to say I wont be back.
